I had to escape - the city was sticky and cruel.

Jalopy is now available DRM-free on GOG.com, 40% off until April 4, 5pm UTC.
Drive your wheezing, chugging Laika 601 Deluxe through the procedurally generated roads of 90s Germany, CSFR, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria or Turkey, and see how far you can get, either as an unassuming scavenger or a successful smuggler that no border patrol can hope to catch.
Together with several fixes and improvements, the full release features full translation into 17 additional languages, including French, German, Russian, Polish, Italian, Chinese, and more.
I think the game is a jalopy and it's a big joke

also, I still don't know how you can have "procedurally generated roads from 1990's Germany" - roads from 1990s germany actually existed, every single one of them that existed existed - the whole concept is fundamentally illogical
this would prob be one of my guilty little pleasures, there's something relaxing about the minimalism of it

Plokite_Wolf: I'd rather be driving that totally-not-a-Yugo-Koral instead :)

Dogmaus: Ah the nostalgia. "Totally-not-a-Fiat-127".
Touche.

The wording is a bit weird. It's definitely not based on any real roads or geography, just a stylistic influence.

They also use the term "procedurally generated" very liberally, probably because it's a popular buzzword these days. What they mean is: for each country, there's a set of manually designed, fixed road segments. These are strung together in a random number and order every time, so that the drive through each country is slightly different every time. You'll recognise the recurring road segments pretty quickly. That, and the car wrecks, boxes and crates you find along the way are the only things that are randomised.

Anamon: My quick summary: you get an old, barely running car and...
Thanks for the details.
driver would be better off trading the jalopy for a bicycle and biking to Turkey

Does the game have any randomization?

"procedural generated" is not the same as random but "automatically create large amounts of content in a game". i.e it is built by computer generation, not human. Dpending on the algorithm used, it can be controlled or random. A typical example of a very controlled procedurally generated content is Frontier: Elite 2, and how Braben managed to get a full simulation of our galaxy onto a disk. However, this was not random, and every player gets the exact same galaxy each time. Almost all games use some sort of procedurally generation to save space, for example textures on leaves and threes.
I remember getting this game back during one of the earlier sales and it was still an "in dev" title. Couldn't go wrong with the price.

I hope GOG will consider 'My Summer Car' at some point. It's another 'good in it's own way' title. I'm not too sure about the confused reception here, as we have obscure minimal games before.

I'd be a liar if i said this game isn't charming and from the little i've watched on YT, it definitely looks like a relaxing experience. Also the launch discount is awesome, i mean, it's just released after a (long) period of development and surely i wouldn't expect more than -10% off for now. Anyway, i can't justify spending any more money on games right now, otherwise this would be an insta-buy. Well, in the end i may give in and buy it before April, 4 -- who knows.. :P
Is this a game about the website/forum software?

yuh huh dey is all deaded.
high rated
So its a game where you just drive around fixing your car all the time. Sounds really lame. Why would anyone ever... "ORDER COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY" What!? How did that happen?
