Into the Stars a space survival and exploration sim, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount.

Think ruthless, unforgiving adventure and you barely scraping by. Think roguelike journey across beautiful, 3D universes. To survive, think faster than light.
You're at the helm of Ark-13 — a hulking colonial space ship home to 10,000 human civilians. The last. Your destination lies star systems away, and the trip is long and fraught with peril. But these men, women, and children have entrusted you with their lives.

Tread carefully, because you're in complete control of every single thing on the ship.

Into The Stars launched in early 2015 as an early access title, and has since evolved immensely thanks to community feedback. It recently received a huge overhaul to the combat and management systems, as well as tons of new content with more meaningful choices and many more branching stories. Today's launch brings a complete UI overhaul, even more content, and many other improvements. For more info on what's changed, check out the developer's changelog.

Set off on a voyage Into the Stars now DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last for one week, until March 11, 4:59 PM GMT.

IwubCheeze: Okay, wishlisted this title but I'm going to need to do some research on it first. Glad to see space sim games coming back somewhat.

But......*sigh*........that 8GB of RAM. Really sucks being stuck with a laptop you got back in 2010 :(
Considering how I play a lot of my GOG games either natively or through WINE on a 11.6" 2010 MacBook Air, I totally get you.
Wishlisted although the Hardware recommendations look like a kick between the legs...
Yeah, developers are finally getting a title (and color...).

Game looks interesting enough. Wishlisted.

NovusBogus: Star Citizen has pulled in over $100 million and isn't even finished yet, just sayin'.
There are about 4000 species of freshwater snails. Just sayin'.
I watched "worth a buy" review of this game and it looks good. It's a bit like FTL where you want to get across the map with mean guys chasing you, which is why it might have limited save options. Die, and it's start over.

cyboff: ... you can check Halcyon 6...
Voted, looks nice! I should back more stuff on KS.

I liked FTL, so Into The Stars went straight on my wishlist.

styggron: My laptop is almost 5 years old now (i7) but it always had 8 Gig of ram luckily, I think our problem might be that it only supports a certain screen size. My laptop max res is 1377x768 and it says 16:10 and 16:9 supported which is a worry.

IwubCheeze: Actually, I think gotta bigger problem ;). To cut a long story short, my old laptop died and I needed a new one the next day for work. Problem is, I didn't have the cash on hand to buy a better than I did so I had to settle for a lower end one. Waiting a little to save up more cash simply wasn't an option. Here's the specs (No laughing)

Intel i3-380M (Dual core, 2.53GHz)
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M
2GB DDR3 (Upgraded to 4GB)

There's simply no way I can run anything recently released on this and this laptop needs to last another year at least. That video card just doesn't cut it. Loading up The Witcher 2 on this was funny, the colours all looked like stained glass :D

Still, not a big deal considering I still have a backlog of games to deal with in the meantime.:)
my almost 5 year old laptop has almost your specs though you will be fine with more ram provided you have a 64 bit OS that is

my one is
i7
NVidia 525M
8 gig ram
1366x768 max resolution

as you can see my one is no rocket either but everything works more than well enough :)
so just the ram and 64 bit OS is the only thing I have different other than a slightly higher video card. The i7 even though mine is only 2.2 will give better performance there though.

Very hard to fine i7 laptops now. I bought a replacement for my one which is just sitting there unused. You would think in 5 years it would be uber powerful but nope. The new one is i7, 8 gig ram however the video card is nVidoa 920M so pretty decent. I always insist they come with Windows 7 so that combo is almost impossible.
1. i7
2. Win 7
3. nvidia card

only 1 model no one else could give me this combo bar Toshiba :( So another Toshiba it is which is almost identical to what I have now that is 5 years old. :( :( :(

So far, reviews are mixed. I'm hearing a lot of "needs more development time" or "so much potential". Lack of depth by the sounds of it. The combat system looks silly but some people will like it I suppose.

This game is defiantly not for everyone by a long shot. I highly recommend looking at some videos prior to making a purchase on this one. The videos with the combat system was enough for me to set this aside for now.
I just checked out a random gameplay video and first thing I see is a space diarrhea outbreak... errrr, OK.

justanoldgamer: Looks good but I have to put it on the wishlist for now. Is it really rogue like i.e. no save?
avatar
IcebergInteractive: There's the option to save and quit, but it's game over if you die.

EckoShy: Can someone confirm, does this game have turn based combat? And all from in the view of the cockpit? Or do the screenshots deceive me a bit?
avatar
IcebergInteractive: It's not turn based combat but volley based - your shields/weapons have cooldown times that you've to take into account. You can switch between cockpit view and outside view.
Hi, while you are here :)

How do I change the language?

//edit: found it, you need to change your OS format to the language you would like to run the application in. This is not good! Are you going to change that?

OK, 1day resources are used up in 20second and ~4900 storage are enough for ~10 days, this gives you 4min to reach the first planet and gather resources for another 3 days (60 seconds) ingame?

ESC to leave menus would be helpful, I was stuck in the city-planner until we collided with the planet.

I think this needs some heavy fixing :)

Oh what the hell! I bought it! Hope I'll like it!
The YouTube videos are looking good! Also The Escapist review convinced me!

IcebergInteractive: Not sure atm, but if GOG allows I don't see why not.

MaGo72: Thanks for the answer. One more question, if I may, is there a pause mode to give commands or does the fight has to be in pure real time?
Putting the game on pause is always possible and highly recommended, especially in combat versus multiple enemies.

Edit: Also, just got confirmed that the deluxe version will also become available on GOG shortly.

Tarhiel: How about soundtrack?
Will we see it as DLC upgrade here as well?
Yes it'll be available in the digital deluxe version on GOG as well.

Woo, hope I get my backer key for that too, then. :)

Gave it a play over the weekend, runs fine on my fairly basic PC. Experienced a bit of a glitch where I went into the Citizen City and couldn't get back out no matter what menu choices I selected. Otherwise though it ran fine.

There is a lot of keep track off, far beyond FTL (which is a game I really enjoy). I only made it through a half-dozen worlds before I ran out of food, then life support, then fuel. It feels like there is almost too much to keep tabs on, but perhaps that gets better with repeated plays. FTL was pretty hard my first few times through as well.
Damn, this game looks pretty awesome. I might need a new PC...
