Faster than landcrawlers.

Into the Breach, a mechanized turn-based strategy from the makers of FTL, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.
**Buy it until March 6th, 3PM UTC and get FTL: Advanced Edition for FREE.**

Our timeline is under attack! Hideous alien creatures burrowed under our civilization and the only way to drive them back is by employing giant mechs. From the future!
Fine-tune your formidable machines, plan your every move, and watch your fire - there are still some civilians left in there. If everything else fails, just turn to the future for reinforcements and another chance.

In the press:

- Jason Shreier from the Kotaku gang played the game a few weeks back, loved it and described it as beautiful kaiju chess. Catchy.

- Gamespot gave the game 9/10, calling it "a pristine and pragmatic tactical gem with dynamic conflicts that will inspire you to jump back in again, and again, and again."

- The people at We Got this Covered found the game to be fantastic, saying "it borrows confidently from FTL's successes but differentiates itself as a tight, highly replayable tactics game".

zheprime: Point is that I would be more open to the game if people listed more issues with it instead of gushing about a game that very clearly seems to have things that most likely drags the experience down. In other words the reviews are useless and would most likely just set your expectations too high which would harm your overall impression of it when/if you play it.
Take Cuphead for example. A painfully average Run n' Gun game with several basic mechanical design problems, yet received glowing reviews mostly due to the visuals.
Basically too much (unspecified) praise generally sets off alarm bells for me. They're the very reason I even decided to dig a little deeper into this game and made me decide on passing on it, for now.
sounds like maybe reviews just aren't for you.

That's cool. It takes diff'rent strokes to rule the world, yes it does. It takes... diff'rent strokes to rule the world!!!!

Well... at least user reviews. Steam user reviews are the worst.
For those who are on the fence about buying it (you know, afraid of the hype thing that i'm usually skeptical about), i can definitely confirm that the reviews don't lie; last night i played for ~2 hours and i can already tell that this game is going to stay in my HDD for a loooong time, just like FTL or Risk of Rain.

Sculpy: I was a little hesitant when I first saw the graphics (...)
What?!?! I absolutely love 'em. :P

Mr.Mumbles: I'll buy it now and I'll wait until the Mac version appears. ;)

AndyM77: Will buy when the Linux version appears

Mr.Mumbles: The devs already said a Mac/Linux version is forthcoming. Their main focus was on finishing and releasing the game before spending their limited resources on ports.
As much as I'd like to do that, I saw a Youtube video about Linux gaming some time ago that made a very good point: If you buy the game now and wait for the port to come, when the port finally comes, they'll see less of a difference in sales and assume that the OS you use has less market pull than it has.

So with the above in mind, I'll wait for one of 2 things to happen before I buy: a Linux port or a very steep discount (at least 50%). I'm assuming most devs would want to make a cross-platform offering before they'd slash the offering price by 50%+ and if they do the later first, then a cross-platform offering is probably not coming.

In the end I bought it too, hopefully it isn't one of those games that you end up hating for how difficult they are.
I wanted to ask, on GOG aren't on sale the FTL and Into the Breach soundtracks, as on steam? I hope that at least they will be made available in the future.
Hmm, might be a good time to fire FTL again while I’m waiting for the Linux version…
And I thought Final Fantasy Tactics had maps the size of a postage stamp.

MIK0: On Steam they also sell the soundtrack. Is there a plan to sell it on GOG too?
I asked Ben about this on his recent stream and he mentioned that there was no immediate plan to do so. As to the why behind it, he mentioned that when FTL released, GOG had not really expressed an interest in selling that soundtrack so he just assumed the response would've been similar and didn't consider it for the new game either. After mentioning that GOG has (sort of) started to sell music via DLC/add-on content, he said he would rethink it and get in touch to see if something could be worked out.

it's not the size that matters, it's how you use it

Good news!

I always thought that TES have their share of problems, but their world isn't one of them; Morrowind aside (which has a stunning alien world), i enjoyed the beautiful Cyrodiil where other folks found it "generic", and i dig Skyrim's beautiful landscapes (but i'm a little biased towards mountainous areas anyway). :P
For those that are into twitch, this channel is doing a marathon of Into The Breach this week:

Gave me a good view of the game, better than just written reviews in my opinion and the streamer happily answers questions, which is nice. Hope that helps anyone on the fence about this game.

Alm888: Trust me, we, Linux users, experienced it many times: false/empty promises and nothing in the end. And if you somehow believe Mac users are immune to that, I'll say only… Torchlight II pre-order.
Yeah, I decided to hold off for the time being. It's not like it'll cost me more later and I already have FTL.
Anyone still wants FTL: Advanced Edition? I have a gift key that I don't need.
