The mass production effect

Industry Giant 2, an isometric industry manager simulator, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 15% launch discount.

A lot of videogames give players the chance to live out their fantasies. For most of us, owning a multibillion-dollar business will never escape that realm so this our best opportunity at becoming a true Industry Giant 2.

Despite appearances, a successful business is a far more complicated affair than simply crunching numbers in an effective manner. You need vision, adaptive thinking, the will to act. There are events out of your control, like economic crises and political events, that can change your business plan overnight. For that to happen, though you first need to come up with one. Do you want to focus on a single product or do you want to expand across different industries? Who will provide you with raw materials, which market should you push them to, and how will your goods physically reach that place? Start from the beginning of the previous century and live through historical events like the prohibition, as you make the harsh decisions that will keep your business going and growing into a self-sustained industry giant.

Choose from a wide variety of products and build your own Industry Giant 2, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 15% launch discount will last until April 14, 1:59 PM UTC.

jamotide: Yeah it is like an extremely simplified version of Capitalism, but prettier

IronArcturus: So the user doesn't have control over specific routes like in Transport Tycoon?
You plan the train track routes and what they load, but not the routes of trucks.

JudasIscariot: We don't have the Gold Edition hence the reason those wishes are not completed. It's a remastered/polished up version of IG2.
Is there more info available what exactly has been improved in this version?

I've the Gold version on disk (it has been added to German game magazines several times), so it would be interesting to know what I gain with this version. Sooner or later I will buy the game here too, but it's to adjust the priority. :)
And the first one ???

I see. So does the game have any windowed mode?
Is this the same version that's on Steam that's already been bundled several times?
avatar
The-Business: It has already been noticed, submission and checks on GOG's still to be done.
Fingers crossed then ...
No manual ? :(

styggron: No manual ? :(
working on it
Is Transport Giant also coming to gog.com? Would really love to play that one. It was a really god transport simulator. Prefered it to Transport Tycoon.

IAmSinistar: Hmm, don't know that the Simdustrial Complex is quite as compelling an idea as civil planning. Maybe if it moved through time as well, showing the transition from agrarian to industrial to technological it might be more interesting.

The-Business: E.g. development of the car industry is part of some missions.
That reminds me of a game I picked up some time ago, "Oldtimer", also known as "Motor City". A pretty interesting simulation about managing an automobile factory in the late 19th to early 20th century.
I got the re-release from the "Play Retro" series by UIG, which is already set up to run in DOSbox. Really neat stuff.

It would probably be a great title for GOG, along with its sort-of predecessor, "1869".

IronArcturus: So does the game have any windowed mode?
There is nothing to force windowed mode in the game's options. A try with DxWND didn't succeed, so the current answer is 'no'.

In the same vein: Detroit / Ruesselsheim

There was also Mobility, but it's shareware now (older versions might still be available for download).

But does the game have any extra resolution options?

HunchBluntley: I can't spot anything -- what typo?

Vythonaut: Just try a little harder! After you see it, you cannot unsee it! :P

Hint: it is written in gold font.
