Thanks GOG! My life is complete.
4X games are not my cup of tea, but I will keep an eye on IG 2 ;)

ThomNG: Here we go! Just as promised :) enjoy the second part of this classic jewel's franchise!

Cheers
Always love seeing your games on here, and always buy them if they are my thing. Very much looking forward to some of the new games lined up this year.

KajQrd: I really love the fact that it's not just the original version released with a patch to make it work on a modern OS but an update to make it work on widescreen monitors in native resolution as well.
avatar
eiii: Does it still also support 4:3 resolutions?
I'd think so though I'm not sure. It seems to just automatically go by your desktop resolution. There is a text file (ig2.settings) that allows you to enter windowed mode and select window dimensions. But I haven't found any resolution options for fullscreen there. And there aren't any in the game.
Nice release indeed. Hope you can finally get SupCom 1 and FA to gog.com too.
I will ask again.

Gog, please add in the color UK edition of the manual to the download section

It would be great to read and see the images in color instead of black and white.

Imperium Galactica 2 is back and looking better than ever with new high-res textures and vivid colors.

Wishbone: Does this mean that this isn't the original game, but a PC port of the mobile port?
I'd like to know that too. I just saw that there is an iPad version:

mistermumbles: Wine, presumably.

adamhm: Looks like it's actually a native port :)
Manly tears in me eye mate ;)
Looks cool. I have a question for those of you that played this game and IG1

I loved the fact that IG1 was not a typical 4X : There was a campaign of sorts, where you started as a cruiser captain doing missions in a limited sector, and unlocked new stuff and new responsibilities as the story advanced. It made things feel much more personal even after you became war minister of the whole terran faction, y'know.

Is IG2 in the same vein, or is it a more classical 4X?

More classical. DR decided with IG2 to make a more conventional 4x game revolving around a RTS take on the turn based 4x experience.

There is a story, mind you, mostly embedded in the Solarian campaign, but, and i say this with a thought on a review i saw on Steam, if you are looking for a sequel to IG in terms of story, or expect the same story rich narrative as IG or Reunion, you will be disappointed. IG2 does not deliver that.

Instead it is currently the best and most extensive RTS game that implements the conventional 4x formula, being rivaled in depth only by its turn based counterparts. And yes, that includes Sins, which lacks ground combat, colony management or freeform travel and exploration.

The way i understand it, the IP for IG has been up for grabs a while as the publishers who owned it before went bankrupt. Somewhere along the line it must have been snagged up by a company developing mobile games.

Is it an "official" IG game? Probably. Mobile copyright is such a quagmire they wouldn't try to just steal the title unless they had some form of legal justification. Is it in any way related to IG and IG2, as developed by Digital Reality? Absolutely not!

So where does THQ Nordic fit in this? Frankly i'm not sure. It's equally feasible that they bought the whole IP, as it is that they simply aquired ownership on the PC games.

I hope it's the former. I would REALLY like to see a bigger and better version of IG2, in the form of IG3. The game that never was, and even had its spiritual successor butchered into a completely different type of game by a company that simply stripped it for its engine.

According to the iTunes store page the publisher of this mobile version is THQ Nordic. It's just a bit confusing, i'm mostly curious to know if this is an "enhanced" version of the old PC game or a buggy "PC conversion" of the mobile game like Z: The Game.

I think i saw it on Youtube once. As far as i could see it was a typical mobile strategy game loosely based on the PC game. Didn't know it was made by THQ Nordic. That answers my previous point of doubt though. Apparently they own the whole IP and are actively developing on it.

Given the issues people are reporting with the game, I'm afraid it seems like it might actually be a somewhat lazy PC port of the mobile port. Things like "no in-game resolution settings" and "keyboard commands do not work" unfortunately seem to point in that direction. I haven't had time to try it out for myself yet, but I will in a bit. If this really is the case, I certainly hope that the original version will be added as an extra eventually, even if it will be 4 times as large.
