The one console to rule them all…

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1, the satirical JRPG series finally takes on Windows computers everywhere, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 takes place in the land of Gamindustry, it's a story of four goddesses also known as Console Patron Units, or CPUs, locked in a thousand year struggle, called the Console War, in which they fight each other for shares. Yup.
If that wasn't blunt enough - the Hyperdimension Neptunia series is a spoofy JRPG take on the gaming industry. The world, the characters, everything here is a little nod, a gamer-friendly meme, or just unabashed satire. But don't be mistaken, the game is far from a one-trick pony - there is plenty here for fans of the genre. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 brings a novel fighting system which combines free movement with classic turn-based RPG combat, as well as many other huge improvements in mechanics and presentation over the game originally released on the PSP.

You can also pick up the Additional Content1 DLC pack featuring a much higher level cap, new quests, battles and Plans.

Is the Console War worth fighting? Find out with Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1, DRM-free now on GOG.com! The launch discount will end on November 10, 1:59 PM GMT.

P1na: I think it may be best not to ask, or they may end up pulling it.
All the more reason it needs to be asked. If GOG have missed a legal issue, it needs resolving.
avatar
bansama: Would love to know how GOG pulled this one off. Idea Factory Japan deny any connection to the PC version, and Idea Factory International insist they don't have the rights to sell this in Japan.

JinKazaragi: The Rebirth games are Reamkes of the PS3 titles on the PSVita (Remakes, not Remasters!).
I assume you played the first neptunia game on PS3? That one was terrible
avatar
P1na: Oh yes it was. Terrible I mean. I believe the name was hyperdimension neptunia just like that, so it was probably the first one.
Yes, that's the first one.
I wonder who is the mastermind behind the Gog release schedule . All i know he loves JRPGs , indie platformers and adventture games .
Also he feels himself old and this is why he avoid old CRPGs , and FPS titles . He hates the Alice and Elvira series and Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom .

let them sell it for a few months, add the rest of the series, then ask and stir the bureocracy's hornest nest. They probably managed some delicate equilibrium we don't want to break.
Alright... Alright, GOG. Not bad. It's a Japanese game on GOG.

Despite looking anime as hell, this is actually quite a good game. Worlds better than most of stuff that gets churned out by publishers like NIS.

Though for those on the fence, please buy Trails in the Sky first.
I'm gonna buy this .

FYI, the localisation for this comes from someone related to NISA (thus, it's not that good and differs a fair bit from the original Japanese script).

We're talking about a Neptunia game. Japanese have been wanting this on PC since it first turned up on Steam. Trust me, this will be all over the Japanese net by tomorrow. And they'll be asking Idea Factory about this.

Retroism is an experienced publisher.
I think if they told GOG that they have the rights to distribute in Japan as well, it is just like that.
And that would also explain why the game is published by Retroism on here: they secured ALL the rights necessary.
:-)
Im pretty suprised it turned up here.
Migth buy it here or migth not, not too sure, since i was planning to get the physical ps3 versions.
Maybe il buy the digital pc versions here for backup purposes... hmmm.
Wishlisted as a reminder.

If there are any rights issues that might pop up all the more reason to buy it now! Still hope we get the rest of these before that happens though.

Activision is now "meh" towards their backlog. :P

I may want to buy this right away if that's the case. I assume that this has been discussed, the thieving bastard hinted this title months ago and the legal situation was probably the reason for the delay; so it should be ressolved now. But still, I don't trust these things, I still regret not having bought second sight when I had the chance.

I'll think about it a bit, but I better make the decision before I am left without internet again.

Clearly GOG has realized in the last year or so that JRPGs will sell here; there seems to have been a change of policy on that one. The other trends are probably just down to availability. You can hardly claim old CRPGs are being avoided when this year has seen a tonne of SSI's gold box CRPGs, all the early Elder Scrolls titles, plus some real gems like Albion, Dragon Wars and KOTOR added to the catalogue.
Don't know why but the art style doesn't work for games at all in my opinion. Just seems lazy and at times unnecessarily childish. I'll pass on this release though I'm glad many people are happy about this. Always good to have games available without DRM.

I think you mean Keyboard/gamepad only.
