The one console to rule them all…

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1, the satirical JRPG series finally takes on Windows computers everywhere, available now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 50% launch discount.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 takes place in the land of Gamindustry, it's a story of four goddesses also known as Console Patron Units, or CPUs, locked in a thousand year struggle, called the Console War, in which they fight each other for shares. Yup.
If that wasn't blunt enough - the Hyperdimension Neptunia series is a spoofy JRPG take on the gaming industry. The world, the characters, everything here is a little nod, a gamer-friendly meme, or just unabashed satire. But don't be mistaken, the game is far from a one-trick pony - there is plenty here for fans of the genre. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 brings a novel fighting system which combines free movement with classic turn-based RPG combat, as well as many other huge improvements in mechanics and presentation over the game originally released on the PSP.

You can also pick up the Additional Content1 DLC pack featuring a much higher level cap, new quests, battles and Plans.

Is the Console War worth fighting? Find out with Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1, DRM-free now on GOG.com! The launch discount will end on November 10, 1:59 PM GMT.
Bought it!
Does anyone know if there are any plans to make a Linux version?
Meanwhile, I can confirm the game installs but won't run on Wine (Wine version 1.6.2, Ubuntu 15.04).

Meanwhile, I can confirm the Wine install works, but the game won't run after that (Wine version 1.6.2, Ubuntu 15.04).
I doubt there will be a Linux version, sad to say. Most JRPG ports don't really get one :/

Also, try a different version of Wine like 1.7.54 :)

After Wine 1.7.53 fixed my issues with Elminage Gothic I ain't EVER going back to 1.6.2 :D

WBGhiro: Yes works perfectly.

Kardwill: Meaning? Don't know this game, but from the reactions of the other people on this thread, it looks like a decent title.
Sorry, I meant that it looks quite dubious.

Let's say I'm not a fan of the graphic design and leave it at that. :P

Look at the bright side: graphic design you dislike is way easier to avoid than mechanics you dislike: quick look at the title and you're done.

DreamedArtist: is anyone else having a problem of the game not saving the system settings like controller and audio cause mine everytime I quit game puts everything back to default.. but the game itself works like knife through butter besides that one issue.
Are you checking on the menu immediately after starting the game, or after loading a save game? I ask as settings in these games appear to be saved to your game save and not separately.
I don't understand why you guys feel so intimidated by the graphic design of this game or any other jrpg. While I'm not really a fan of anime, I don't feel "dumb" or "childish" because I'm playing these games. Sometimes the oh so realistic atmospheres of western games can feel very so-so as well.... Besides, games are basically toys, don't be ashamed if you're having fun with them.

Indeed! :P

omega64: It means he likes to judge books by their covers. :P

The ReBirth games are remakes of previous titles with mechanics added in from later titles in the series.

Pica-Ludica: Agreed. I'm pretty sure it's a case of "anime-looking cover = trash" reasoning. The fact that GOG's catalogue has always been meticulously curated - unlike SOME retailers that will blindly sell actual trash games - seems irrelevant for some reason.
Well, ... There are hits and misses just as with any digital distributor.

That said, I positively loved King's Quest 7.so there is a generous amount of subjectivity here.

There are some pretty decent games in there.

Indeed, it is awful mix of "games I didn't like personally", which also includes some bashing of anime and jRPGs.
