omega64: I'd rather have pixel art than art that tries to be realistic. Indie's usually don't have the cash to do so succesfully.
:O

blotunga: But it doesn't has to be realistic. Just a bit higher resolution art. For example how Trine is drawn...
Higher resolutions would be nice. I don't really mind though. :P
As with anything there is good and bad pixel art.
It looks interesting, but I must admit to finding the art a little ugly.

Sidenote: You do realize Trine 3 was shorter because they couldn't afford to make it any longer?
Trine's art might still be too much. :P

Trine 3 was cut because they wanted to make it 3D. I love drawn 2D. But it should have at least some detail to it. I mean look at my game, it's a 10+ year old game and looks better than most pixel-art games. And the game is open source and made by a community. Imho many indie devs are just lazy to draw up nicer graphics.
Loving the game so far. I wish the soundtrack was also available. I hope that it will come here too.

In the humble version of the game, all the sound file are in the installation folder, but it's lots of small files. I haven't played yet, so I can't say if that's the music from the whole game.

No offense, but: No, it doesn't. Nowhere remotely near.

I have a friend who likes this style of yours too, but I find it to be awful. It's like a website from 1995 put into use as a game interface. Sorry, but I would go for pixel art any time.

As for this game - it got some gorgeous animations and a high quality pixel arts, so I see no reason to complain.
It's hard to gauge my own skills without having played the game, but this isn't very encouraging. :-/

I like how reviewer is asking people in comments how to defeat the first boss.

hahahaha

What about Vanishing of Ethan Carter and similar games?

I did say usually. :P
Usually is not always.

The graphics for Ethan Carter are great, the human characters do stand out though.

At least it's a preview, not a full review. xD
He did say if he's just missed a mechanic he'd gladly add a mea culpa and continue reviewing it.

Niggles: Dev ignored backers request for gogkeys as an options. Not happy.

I wont be backing anymore KS projects unless devs provide gog as a valid option if possible (oh Humble fucked up the release.)
Do you know why they ignored your request?

Necronaut: Only 700 MBs! :O I can play right away!

The ridiculously gorgeous kind. Live and let live folks. No need to shit on something just because it isn't up your alley. Plenty of realistic looking games out there.

blotunga: I don't need realistic looking, but still pixel art is something I don't like. In old games they had to use it because the technology didn't allowed them to using more high-res images, but now I rather have something a bit more detailed than pixel art... There are plenty of old games with pixel graphics if I feel nostalgic. Just my 2 cents.
My point stands. You have options. Pixel art isn't as ubiquitous as you make it sound. Don't like it? Look elsewhere.

And btw, I never owned a console before the Gamecube, yet I can still appreciate pixel art for what it is despite the fact that I have no basis to be nostalgic about it. That's because it can stand on it's own as an artstyle regardless of the sentimental value some may hold over it.
I'd say it's a work of art.
