huN73R: Unlike other games where censorship is difficult or impossible to override, overriding censorship on this one is quite easy like I posted a while ago. See Here. This is how it is distributed by Steam and quite possibly Humble though I have yet to test that version.
In my experience, it's easy to fix in most cases, or at least it used to be. I remember there used to be "blood patches" for pretty much any game which would otherwise have been censored in Germany.

But that's besides the point: If GOG is selling altered copies of games, which had content censored or otherwise removed, they need to be transparent about it. If I consider buying a game, I want to know up front what I'll receive for my money.
As far as I know you can patch the game to enable it. It is basically a file name check (empty file). It worked for steam and humble bundle.

edit: make a file and name it "huniepop_uncensored_patch.game".
its important that the file is not named "huniepop_uncensored_patch.game.txt", so show known file-endings. Lets us know here if it works.

I could be wrong but those blood patches were fan work right? This one was done by the devs to help stores such as Steam, Humble, etc. to be safe from controversy about genital nudity (Not sure if that's the proper way to refer to it) but I hope you understand the difference.

But I can see what you are trying to say and agree that it should have been mentioned in release post at least so that people can be fully informed about their purchase.

Magnitus: I don't see what explicit content has to do with social justice. More generally, I don't see what sex related things have to do with social justice unless there is exploitation involved (ex: people being forced into prostitution by poverty or rape).

For progressives, there is no relation there.
You confuse a lot of things here :)
- confuse social justice with considered opinion
- confuse progressives with beliebers (people who suck in the popular opinion from mass propaganda and/or cult, and consider it to be true)
- confuse perversion with sex
- confuse masturbation with sex
- confuse social justice with law enforcement
- confuse that prostitution is not related with crime, rape, drugs and poverty
- confuse exploitation limited to physical force

I think GOG should release these games, but require some basic checks so the website still stays safe for lower age auditory.

The blood patches were parts of data from uncensored versions. By (over-)writing this parts back, it would produce non-censored version out of censored (minus some metadata). Some of the patches are just re-packed data with blurry textures replaced by sharp :) ones. Stuff that today is called "mod" and in 90ties - a "hack".
i got the humble store version when it was released... i bought it out of curiosity in fact. i had seen a wave of rather dull and void anime ecchi games on steam and such and iwas rather defiant...

i tried huniepop. i always like bejeweled-based mechanisms (as long as they put in more than just the base mechanics) such as crystal quest and such.

i was pleasantly surprised. of course it is not much original or innovative, the characters are big cliches, so are the dialogs. but talking about a game perspective, there are enough ideas thrown in together ("characs", special powers, classic dating sim elements, some hidden stuff)to kill some amount of time in decent fun. Ok, it s ecchi, but not more than just ecchi (there are not more nudity than in witcher games tbh)

i was surprised to read on dev's xebsite that gog turned them down first time (i mean because this game is rather aside from the dull ecchi visual novel game wave i was talking about earlier), not that i blame gog for such, policy to start with, but huniepop didnt fall in the so called category. nice they change their mind.

btw, good old games like baldur are 20 years old, so it is not stupid to assume that among gog communauty, there is in fact a mature audience after all.

i rarely do this but even if i have it already and if it is a censored version (what are the differences in this cut one anyway please), seeing the release discount, i'll still buy it again, here, as a token of confidence.

in fact this friday ,there are rather cool releases and sales such as the square enix thing, this subzero fps seems even "naughtier" to me than huniepop 'got a fetish for roguelike and procedural stuff, whip me bad please), and the europa universalis drm free (THAT indeed makes me wet my pants dirtier than huniepop in comparaison, i'm a paradox game wh0re)
Woohoo!
No reason for me to grab this now - have it on Humble. It's creepy for sure, but that creepiness is rendered relatively unobjectionable by the hilarity and solid gameplay. I recommend.
