tremere110: I can confirm that LAN has indeed been stripped from the classics
:(
avatar
SirPrimalform: Ridiculous and unnecessary, I won't be buying any time soon then.
Really? Why was the LAN version removed from everything? That's pretty disappointing. :(
avatar
IAmSinistar: And it makes lovely desktop wallpaper too.

mistermumbles: That is, if it wasn't for all that grey fog at the bottom. =P
Shades nicely into the Windows 10 taskbar here. :)

Yes, the LAN feature*was removed from the classic versions by GearBox for unknown(and probably stupid reasons), but our talented and awesome modding community re-enabled it in Homeworld 2 classic, and for Homeworld 1 classic the work is still in progress because of some stinky source code and engine quirks that punish our modders. So at least we have an option :).Cheers

EDIT: As far as i know, the original Homeworld's used WON( World Online Network) for online play, and that sucker went down 2004 or 2005, and according to some guys close to GearBox, LAN is actually somehow tied with WON multiplayer interface and code.So the guys at GB maybe didnt want to spend extra time fixing that.Hope this info helped. Cheers

[sarcasm]
Yarr! Only PIRATES use LAN technology. If a game not be calling back to the mother ship, we pirates will pillage it 20 different ways to Sunday. Arggh!
[/sarcasm]

Does anyone know if the local LAN was TCP/IP based, or if it was IPX/SPX based. If it was the latter, I can understand, I don't think any current Windows products support that. If it was the former, and it wasn't set up using RAW winsock2 programming, it could be because Microsoft has removed DirectPlay from later versions of the DirectX SDK. In fact, as I recall, the only bit left *in* DirectX is the graphics. On the DirectInput side, everyone has a Xbox or Xbox compatible controller at about the same time the Joystick port was dropped about Vista or so, also.

So, yes, being mad is okay, but direct some of it at Microsoft and not all Gearbox. Oh wait, they're the same company, aren't they? Break out the pitchforks and the torches! We're going to patch in some justice! Who wants to start a bounty on LAN connections? I can be in for 5 or so.
Four hours later he download is complete.

Lets see what happens here. :P

*Homeworld.exe has stopped working because the Steam DRM was removed and now we can't spy on you* xD.
Nah, just kiddin.Report to us how the game runs, and maybe even your nostalgia boner level(no pervert btw :D). Cheers
This is a no-brainer, buying. Too bad Cataclysm is not included, but fortunately I own that as a retail version.

Some review complained about the developers having changed the voices, but are they the original ones in the Classic versions?

MIK0: You are right, "most" was not the correct word. But there are devs, and not few of them, that do that. But it's just time consuming for them and for the users.
I agree, I'd like to see Steam Connect too. I don't see issue here, devs could already ask for free steam keys for them, so an automatic process would really help.
Even better would be a thirdy party that would manage licence for all the stores, actually allowing the pay once for all goal.

Atombomb2097: Easiest thing is to sell Steam/GOG combos, like they did with Divinity Dragon Commander or Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten
avatar
Zoidberg: Nice to see this here, despite the (apparently) slight unfair regional price.
avatar
Atombomb2097: Regional prices are always unfair.
It's always for anyone. Add to that the ludicrous rounding rules they use here which makes things even worse, really annoying.

Well that is good to hear! Is the new LAN mod compatible with GOG's version? I've read that apparently the Steam version got some new 2.0 update as well. Is that the same as GOG's?

tinyE: They are there but you need to download the whole thing to get them, which is what I'm going through right now. :P
I saw in your other post that your download is complete. So..how is it? HOW IS IT !?

Are manuals included with classic versions?

LISTEN UP!!! (I always wanted to say that :P)

It is a beautiful layout. A+ on presentation to be sure.

You get one icon and one menu with an option for all four games with their own separate settings options, and they all run very nice.

The Remasters are a little hard on schematics but there are tons of options to tweek so you should be able to play with it enough to work on even modest systems. I ended up turning the resolution down. It's not as crisp but it is still noticeably better than the originals, which where pretty great to begin with and look fantastic here.

One big difference I already noticed, and anyone who has played these before will think is a big deal, with Remaster you automatically get TWO RECOURSE COLLECTORS as opposed to the original which only started you with one.
Those of you who would get tired of waiting for those fuckers to get every last scrap before making the jump to hyperspace will no doubt be very please. :P

That is all. XD

Dreaganos: Both can be played without running the Remastered versions.
And just for convenience if you have an AMD GPU get a "fixed" atioglxx.dll and put it inside the HW2 Folder.
Thx....what fixed dll...? I'll have to google a bit.
Damn. I already bought this on steam because I thought it would never be coming to gog.

I guess if anything this just makes me now double down on me not buying games when they first come out and wait a few years for them to show up on gog. I sure hope this game ends up on the gog connect soon.
