Return to the Mothership

Homeworld Remastered Collection, containing the legendary space RTSs turned instant classics, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com with GOG Galaxy support for achievements and multiplayer, and a 50% launch discount.

Homeworld brought real-time strategy into actual 3D, creating a truly free-form tactical experience across battlefields vast in every dimension. It did so in a way that's not just manageable, but overwhelmingly fun! This engrossing space opera chronicles the struggles of an alien race, the Kushan, locked in a vicious conflict with a tyrannical empire as they make their way to the promised land.
Homeworld 2 expanded on the setting and story even further, while refining the overall gameplay and visual experience. Now the whole saga has been remastered, putting a fresh coat of paint and techno-magic over this timeless experience, so that new and veteran players alike can finally return safely to their true Homeworld. This version also includes the latest massive patch, which brings tons of radical changes to formations, ship behavior, gameplay balance, and more.

The Homeworld Remastered Collection includes both the classic and remastered editions of Homeworld & Homeworld 2.
Dedicated fans can also grab the remastered soundtrack from both games, available in MP3 and FLAC.

Engage in full-scale battle between vast 3D fleets in Homeworld Remastered Collection, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% discount will last until June 10, 12:59 PM UTC.

PaterAlf: I'm not really interested, but I know a lot of people are happy now. And it's great that they also include the classic versions of the games.
Welcome aboard, Gearbox! I hope to see more games from you in the future.
Same here.

Vythonaut: Definitely the best GOG release of 2016.
For me, it was Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

rampancy: Kind of on the fence on this. I'd pretty much be buying this only for the classic editions to run in WINE as my hardware isn't up to scratch for the remastered edition (though it too apparently runs in WINE according to the AppDB). In fact, I'd wager I'm probably the only person who'd be doing that...
Interestingly Steam says the Homeworld collection is also available for Mac ... I wonder why not here on GOG as well?

EDIT: Ah the Mac version was ported (natively I think) by Aspyr, my guess the deal with Gearbox doesn't cover them ... pity.

I knew that if Homeworld series is gonna launched on GOG, there will be no Cataclysm included..Yet a bit disappointed, not happy as when I saw VTMB on GOG. But what I can't understand is, why there's no Deserts of Kharak? Hmmm...
Is the LAN intact in the classics? Back when this was released on Steam I remember some controversy about LAN being removed from the classic versions.
I always wanted but never had the chance to play them, so may be it's the time...
What are the differences between remastered and classic version ?
Finally! Thanks GOG!
Woot!

It managed to show up here before I broke down and bought it on disc.

Matruchus: Vow. So your list was right indeed. Can't wait for this one. Do you know about any other that is also coming this week?
The only other things I saw are Planetbase and Funcom's The Park coming this week:

That Planetbase game looks really cool!

trusteft: I am going to try to see if I can get it through "connect".
GOG Connect might bite them (us?) in the ass now. A week ago I would have bought this without hesitation (although I own this game on Steam (many games I bought on Gog I already owned on Steam)). Just to show the developer/publisher there is demand for these games on Gog. Now I am doubting. On one hand I would also love to see the Borderlands games here (the better Homeworld sells the bigger the chances are, on the other hand - knowing my luck - if I buy it now it will be on Connect within the next few months or so. Damn, what to do.
I'm a sucker for retail games, but I always prefer DRM-Free alternatives. In this particular case, both retail and digital versions needed Steam to run. I got the retail version, but despite the fact that the games included are great and DRM-Free here on GOG, I don't feel compelled to re-buy them.

IronArcturus: Wow, Homeworld finally made it to GOG! So has anyone tried the the classic version compared to the newer version?
I was told that a lot of gameplay mechanics was screwed up in remastered version of Homeworld 1, but it seems like Gearbox put a lot of effort on many issues on them.(It is just a guess based on the patch note 2.0 in Steam. I don't own it, so I can't really test the differences)

Thanks. Planetbase is definitely one of the games I wan't :)

tinyE: I have all of them on CD, what's your point? :P

Impaler26: My point is that i won't buy games i already own again. :P
understandable but my choice is to reward publishers that bring the games I want to try/see here like I have for Bethesda (Classic Doom, Quake, Fallout & Elder Scrolls- all the franchises I at least had one copy of already)
Guys, just a quick question! Are the classic versions of the Homeworld separate games when we buy them or are they part of the remastered version and can be accesed only through that. Cheers.
