What lies underneath.

Hollow Knight, a wonderfully sordid action/platformer hand-painted in charming 2D, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com!

The world below is full of ancient cities, hidden treasures, and perilous passageways. Only a Hollow Knight can hope to dodge, dash and slash through the adorably creepy creatures dwelling there, while conquering the haunting remains of this forgotten kingdom.

Silverhawk170485: Looks very nice and I like to buy it but I need a Mac version or a confirmation that it runs under Wine.

JudasIscariot: Disable d3d11 in Wine's configuration utility as there's noticeable lag in the DX11 version and enjoy the game :)
Thanks. :)
This looks great and I'll definitely support it later this year ! :)

astrugar710: I am using an Xbox 360 controller and it works great.

Marioface5: Can you open your inventory with a 360 controller? With my Logitech F510, trying to open the inventory with back/select doesn't work. Hopefully the developers will fix this quickly.

EDIT: For some reason, the game does seem to work in D-Input mode. That's the opposite of how this would normally go, but I'll take it.
On the 360 controller I can open the inventory with the back button just fine.
Did anyone attempt to play with keyboard/mouse? Yes/No/are you insane?

I have and it is somewhat playable that way but you lose some of the finesse you would have with a controller when performing certain attacks like the jump + downward attack.

Thanks – it may just not be as tailored to my preferred style of play as Owlboy was. :)
I'm not sure how to phrase this question, but does it control beautifully?

The gameplay video reminds me of Bloodrayne: Betrayal for some reason and while I did manage to complete it, I found the controls made it an infuriating experience that I'm not looking forward to repeat.

Other than the rare cases of my little dude not jumping when I push the jump button - I'm still unsure what causes those hiccups - it controls fairly smoothly. You definitely want to play it with a pad though. I don't get these die-hards with their "Keyboard+mouse forever!" mentality as most platformers, especially more current ones, tend to simply play a whole lot better with gamepads.

Comparing these two games isn't really practical, as BB is more an arcade-like brawler in a lot of situations. Hollow Knight is much more about careful timing of jumps and attacks without exactly needing twitch reflexes. It's much more about reading/learning enemy patterns, which is fairly easy to do (if one foregoes reckless kamikaze attacks ;)), and exploiting their weaknesses. Getting hit is not as big an impact as in some other games either. The player collects soul 'essence' or whatever it's supposed to be for each successful hit on an enemy, which can be used to heal oneself (when not actively being attacked).

Seems as if the game has a lot of bugs. xD

... I had to make this joke. ;)
Looks wonderful. I'll get it once the last control niggles have been patched out.
So far so good, loving the atmosphere!
Game is fantastic. Nice ambience, excellent controls, beautiful art design. and a true metroidvania in every sense of the word. Boss battles are challenging without being absurd. It uses the "Dark Souls" mechanic of when you die, you lose all your money and get a chance to recover it by killing a shade of yourself, similar to Salt and Sanctuary (another fun Dark Souls-lite Metroidvania game).

The game is fluid, and while the controls aren't the most intuitive, they are not impossible to get a grip on.
I am loving this game so far as well. The controls, the visuals, the music and the gameplay are all spot on. The game has some stuttering issues on my system but even with that it is still a blast to play. I read that not all people have stuttering problems so I guess it depends on your system.
Any word about the linux version that seems to be in the works? Will it also show up here?
