Dear Community,

Thank you for your patience and for giving us the time to investigate the release of HITMAN GOTY on GOG. As promised, we’re getting back to you with updates.

We're still in dialogue with IO Interactive about this release. Today we have removed HITMAN GOTY from GOG’s catalog – we shouldn’t have released it in its current form, as you’ve pointed out.

We’d like to apologise for the confusion and anger generated by this situation. We’ve let you down and we’d like to thank you for bringing this topic to us – while it was honest to the bone, it shows how passionate you are towards GOG.

We appreciate your feedback and will continue our efforts to improve our communication with you.

Enebias: You could turn this massive reputation damage into a big win if you managed to secure the whole trilogy while stripping it of online requirements.
Wishful thinking, I know, but one can hope. I'd pay a pretty penny for that, too.
GOG could sweeten the deal by offering to pay for the removal of all DRM with IOI agreeing that the DRM-free version of the Hitman games will be available exclusively on GOG.
No, GOG, what you have done? You've given me reason to give you more of my money! How could you?! *wails* ;)

On a more serious note: Hot damn! I actually didn't expect them to pull the game, so it's quite the pleasant surprise that they listened to their customers. I haven't even used up all my wallet money either, so I hadn't even gotten around to deciding whether to have a game-purchase moratorium.

Good news! :)

StrongSoldier: I doubt that the game returns to the store. I believe that interactive io's relationship with gog is over.
I tend to agree that the game and future IO games are unlikely to show up unfortunately, assuming GOG sales aren't enough to interest IO to make the fundamental changes necessary or allow GOG access to make the changes themselves. A special DRM-free GOG edition might make headlines/Reddit/etc. and generate some decent sales, but again, maybe not enough to interest IO. (I assume making the game DRM-free would take quite a bit more time and resources than the Galaxy integration took.)

However, I doubt IO will pull the other games that are already here, they still bring in a few extra bucks I imagine.

Breja: With a bar set that high, that's hardly a big deal.

tag+: Not cheering = let's rage and curse at everything ??
avatar
Breja: You want to "not cheer" then don't cheer. You don't have to cheer on trolls instead.

avatar
tag+: Pardon me, but I am not a mindless hater either.
avatar
Breja: Then don't act like one.

avatar
tag+: If you consider you are, I won't discuss it.
avatar
Breja: I have no clue how that was even supposed to make sense.

avatar
tag+: Let's give GOG the perfect reason to ignore us in the future
for not giving GOG an applause? Really Breja?
avatar
Breja: No, for complaining about getting exactly what we were demanding.

tag+: Fuckin A
No comments...

Breja: Oh no, I used sarcasm! Run for the hills!
Here we go...

Breja: [i]bla bla bla bla bla bla

Breja: At this point I think it would be best if the thread got locked. The subject matter is closed, and it's only devolving into petty squabbles (in which I myself have unwisely engaged).

Me: Breja - The one thinking himself the smartest one in the world, the center of the universe, the voice of the gogers, and the boss...
Hurry up! Close the thread ASAP because Breja says!!

I don't have enough time here to TAG apehater (pun intended, have you noticed??) and even if I would be here for ages (like you?!) I am not sure I would blindly do it. Read the posts and suffer your own shame.

As I told: A real shame to waste time on gaming forums between useless discussions, fighting for our consumer rights, etc.
We should be investing our time talking about gaming and having fun!
Enough for me. I quit!

Transmission off. And cheers: You keep thinking!! Very, very, very, hard!!
Bravo, GOG, for taking care of this situation. I didn't personally lose faith but this does reassure the community that DRM-free is still your focus. Hopefully you'll be able to work with the devs to remove the DRM from the game and get it back on here!

Wait wait wait, GOG actually listened?!

I'm actually shocked, like, properly shocked. I guess persistence really does pay off after all... you hear that "you can't change anything, why waste your time complaining about it" people? Want to finally rethink your apathy.?

I... Thank you.

This is the first time in a long time I've felt like a response from GOG actually meant something, I'm actually feeling a bit emotional since reading this reply. I've felt hurt by this place for a long time, and i'm still stinging due to what happened with that other game release, but your words actually make this jaded heart feel a sense of hope. Please hold true to these words, don't let them ring hollow.

Truth007: It's gog's fault for choosing to sell the game on their store.
It's the fault of both parties.

Time4Tea: It is very clear that GOG is to blame for this farce, not IOI.
Plus IOI's fault for adding online requirements into it in the first place, and then trying to sell it on GOG.

paladin181: There is definitely more work to be done, but this is a pretty big victory for the DRM-Free crowd.
But one we wouldn't have needed if GOG had done their due diligence and not let the game onto the store/site in the first place.

Yes, it is something, but imo we shouldn't easily forget what led up to that decision/post/point.

Just learned this from reddit, I'm overjoyed that you did the right thing, especially since the bad press from the CP2k77 fiasco has tarnished CDPR's rep, we did not need GoG to follow suit!

EDIT: I should not forget to thank the tireless pressure from those in this community that was instrumental in getting GoG to see the error and correct it!

I too am happy with this outcome but let us not forget the the games poor sales would have also had a hand in this decision.

Fair point, I'm not entirely letting them off the hook yet either, per the last part of my comment, they have to keep a momentum going, it can't just be an apology then business as usual.

No... Thanks a lot! :)

Yeah... thats better.

The idea of an actual DRM free HITMAN GOTY is still a good one though. I seriously hope nobody confused the outrage as a wish to not have that game here at all. From all I heard its a great game and very much welcomed here. Just its... DRM baggage is not.

I may be wrong but there seems to be a lot of emotional investment here. Is it healthy to be emotionally invested in businesses?

As a preservationist, GOG is still important, so the chance that they may fix their mistakes is a big deal as their failure could create a demoralizing shift in perception towards the concept of DRM free. If the biggest supporter of a movement can fail, who's going to try something on this scale again? and how many publishers would be willing to commit to something like that even if someone did try?

Its not about being attached to a business, anything that could potentially threaten ownership and preservation of games going forward is something I take very seriously.

It's a right move, rather remove it than letting the drm infested game to stay.
