Dear Community,

Thank you for your patience and for giving us the time to investigate the release of HITMAN GOTY on GOG. As promised, we’re getting back to you with updates.

We're still in dialogue with IO Interactive about this release. Today we have removed HITMAN GOTY from GOG’s catalog – we shouldn’t have released it in its current form, as you’ve pointed out.

We’d like to apologise for the confusion and anger generated by this situation. We’ve let you down and we’d like to thank you for bringing this topic to us – while it was honest to the bone, it shows how passionate you are towards GOG.

We appreciate your feedback and will continue our efforts to improve our communication with you.

mastyer-kenobi: Yeah no kidding. What's even the point of being here if nothjing GoG does will be enough. You're just wasting time at that point. You're just becoming a firestarter when you can do nothing but spout your spite demanding nothing is ever enough

paladin181: Hey, we fully agree on something.

tag+: Man, honestly, this is not your best post ever.

Not cheering = let's rage and curse at everything ??

Pardon me, but I am not a mindless hater either. If you consider you are, I won't discuss it.

Let's give GOG the perfect reason to ignore us in the future
for not giving GOG an applause? Really Breja?

Fuckin A

paladin181: It's not you, it's apehater. Trust me on that.
All right, I trust you. And I count on you and the rest of the GOGers
I just would hope we stick together and not split until the next time we need each other to succeed...

As I said earlier on

"Today's removal of "HITMAN - Game of The Year Edition" from the GOG store is one step on the right direction, but there are a bunch more left pending!
....
I invite the rest of the GOGers reading this post to use their wallet power buying wisely, considering what/who/when/why you are financing with those purchases.

I am afraid I am not going to say thanks to GOG about the HITMAN removal because it's their job (duty). Seems to me GOG employees are spoiled enough of the diligent treatment from its customers no matter what.
....
Despite the actions/thoughts every GOGer has to keep the -DRM Free- strong and if we agree or not on them: Thanks everyone! There is hope while we have a strong GOGers community!"

Have a great weekend GOGers!

With a bar set that high, that's hardly a big deal.

You want to "not cheer" then don't cheer. You don't have to cheer on trolls instead.

avatar
tag+: Pardon me, but I am not a mindless hater either.
Then don't act like one.

I have no clue how that was even supposed to make sense.

No, for complaining about getting exactly what we were demanding.

Oh no, I used sarcasm! Run for the hills!

There are some voices like apehater and Ancient Red Dragon who are never happy with anything here. Some negative voices don't need the encouragement.

There is definitely more work to be done, but this is a pretty big victory for the DRM-Free crowd. I'm going to appreciate what it is, enjoy the games I feel better about buying, and get back to asking GOG to fix those issues.

lazydog: You would be wise to remember that YET AGAIN it has taken a large scale community action to force gog to address issues that it has itself created.

It should also be pointed out that removing the game does not equal recommititng to offline installers and DRM free games.

And while I am at it, no other store I know of is attempting to sell AAA games under a DRM free banner- all criticism of breaches of this banner should be a requirement.
"I will never be happy."

Cool dude, live your life I guess.

There were only ever going to be two outcomes to this debacle and I would have been happy with either:-

1 drop the game
2 drop the drm free banner

Of course we could have just adopted a continually apologetic stance such as you yourself have maintained and achieved neither outcome,

At this point I think it would be best if the thread got locked. The subject matter is closed, and it's only devolving into petty squabbles (in which I myself have unwisely engaged).

Ecumen1cal: Let's look at what just happened here...
1) I responded to chandra and stated that after 2 weeks i expected a patch and not a game removal.
2) You jumped in and claimed my expectations were impossible.
3) I clarified my expectations.
4) You then proceded to reject them as unacceptable and brought forth your own acceptable expectations that couldn't be delivered in a two week timeframe.
5) You declared yourself the winner.
Well sure, let's break it down some more.

You didn't clarify your expectations so much as assume that a) I was unaware of what was wrong with the release and b) that I was unaware of the half-hearted "crack" that unlocks everything.
My mistake was assuming that you had higher standards in your expectations than settling for a crack that doesn't in any way replicate the progression that is locked online. I'm sorry for assuming you'd set the bar higher.

Your expectations were not impossible, they were just stupid.

Ecumen1cal: Keep patting yourself on the back there champ!
Believe it or not, teceem is a separate person. I know it's probably difficult to accept that more than one person could disagree with you. ;)

Yes, we are passionate towards GOG and specifically, towards DRM-free games! We're not bitching for the sake of bitching. :P Thanks for acknowledging this. I am very pleased with your response. :)

Hope your dialogue with IO Interactive results in HITMAN GOTY returning to GOG's catalog in an acceptable edition. Hopefully, IO Interactive will be receptive to our expectations. We'd love to have their game here.

kai2: ... GOG did just apologize and remove the game while deciding how to proceed (in talks with IOI).
avatar
Ancient-Red-Dragon: IMO saying GOG "did apologize" is a bit of an over-statement, and so too is saying that they "removed the game."

The "apology" comes across like a pseudo-apology, or a non-apology apology. And it also comes across like a PR statement (which it is), or as another poster in this thread very aptly put it, "corpo fluff."

GOG did not take full responsibility for the debacle by disclosing how & why it happened, exactly, which is what they should do, and what they would do, if they were truly sorry.

Nor did GOG explain why it took them weeks to remove the game, instead of doing it immediately.

Nor did GOG disclose what, exactly, they were "discussing" with IOI during those weeks. Could it have been a compromise where GOG was potentially going to allow some DRM to remain?

The fact that GOG is not being upfront & transparent about these matters directly contradicts & belies the statement at the end of the PR fluff comment, wherein GOG promised to "improve our communication with you."

If GOG really means that, then they need to start living up to that promise immediately, by providing full disclosure about all the matters which I've mentioned in this post.
Seriously dude, no company in the world would ever disclose private business communications in the way you are suggesting.

Thank you to all who vehemently opposed this release.

mastyer-kenobi: Case in point. This is mostly IOs fault. IO is the main antagonist here and deserves -FAR- more shit for it. Blaming GoG as they are an equal whos a complete lack of understanding on the concept of intent. Being victim to loophole abuse is not entirely free of cause, but not a malicious false advertisement
avatar
Time4Tea: Please stop spouting this nonsense. It is GOG that is advertizing that they have a 'curated, DRM-free store'. It is totally GOG's decision and their discretion as to what games they allow on to the store. Given their stated commitment to DRM-free, it is their responsibility to their customers, in fact it is their business, to ensure that games that are released here do not contain DRM. I expect nothing less from a store that claims to be 'DRM-free'.

It is very clear that GOG is to blame for this farce, not IOI.
Well said Time4Tea. I completely agree.
avatar
lubwak: Let us hope so :) They still have a lot of work to do. I am surprised they haven't fixed some obvious issues with Galaxy, for one. Direct access to a game's forums in Galaxy, for one. Or sorting games according to the purchase date.
Helllloooo GOG, come on!
avatar
RawSteelUT: That last one is most glaring, I feel. That just seems the most obvious thing.
Yup. It's strange, actually.
