Let's turn the page.

Visual Novels have arrived on GOG.com! Our first selection includes acclaimed games, revered for their intricate artwork and stimulating stories, up to 66% off until May 29, 1pm UTC.

Higurashi When They Cry Chapters 1-5 (25% off): Spawning a popular anime and manga series, Higurashi is a "sound novel", where meticulously designed audio plays a crucial part in these unique stories. Chapters 1-5 are available today, with Chapter 6 slated for release in the near future.

fault (50% off): Sometimes it takes a healthy dose of pulp sci-fi and a dash of fantasy to weave a powerful cinematic story about the human condition. These two episodes of the ongoing series star the perky princess Selphine and her sarcastic guardian Ritona, as they desperately try to make their way back to their homeland.

Sunrider series (66% off): An alternate universe, intergalactic strife, mech combat, high school, and love all around. Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius (free!), Liberation Day, and Sunrider Academy are a beloved and unique mix of strategy, romance, and visual novel. De-censor patch optional, but come on.

eden* (66% off): Stock up on tissues. This critically-acclaimed love story on a dying planet is a real tear-jerker told with stunning cinematic flair. Humanity is about to be wiped out by a red star but this story is destined to stick around for much longer.

lostwolfe: oh boy.

gog. stumbling from one controversy to the next.

public profiles? check.
taking a week to solve that issue? check. [and then doing the barest minimum while they were there.]
suggestive vn's? check. [after years and years of "curating" them away.]

i like adventure games. and i love stories in my games.
but when the game is basically just an excuse to have suggestive images on screen...
...hard pass.

i know, i know. you're all going to downvote me. that's totally ok.

gamesfreak64: I dont vote anyone down .... already told my how i feel about downvoting , also suggested to remove the - button cause it might be okay for kiddie forums but not for some commercial forums or companies like GOG ( down vote would fit nice on Steam)

Anyway i hope we will now also get niche games :D let them come :D ( i dont mind much more of the same )

DreamedArtist: GOG's catalog just got %100 BETTER!
avatar
gamesfreak64: seriously , it gets better , no joking these are hot items and if they are hot you should take advantage of it so GOG made a wise decision .... a plus is the number of games will rise like a star ( or whatever they call it)
Oh yeah, These I already own on other sites so I am waiting to see what others will come here in coming months if they got a deal with mangagamer, I already own like 20 games from there. but I am waiting to see if Denpasoft comes here. and if they do.... my god watch shit hit the fan with anime steam users come here. that is the gold mine of those Anime VN's

Good to know steam's loss is our gain! Waiting for Doki Doki Lit club to make it's way here! Would love it if all JRPGs/JAction/JADV games made their way over here!...Because, fuck steam...

Desmight: For me personally, they're not games, that's why I don't like the idea of them being on this store (which has been heavily curated until today). I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate because of this, but I wanted to give you an answer.

Wolfy777: Well, you're definatatly not getting an angry response from me. ;)

That's a valid point in most cases (visual novel are somewaht like clicker games in the gameplay department, click to advance to a new chunk of text). Besides everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

Personaly I prefer storydriven games and visual novels boil down to: story + artwork and music.

I'm not sure if it's sensible to be against an option though. If you don't like them, you can igrone them.

This is probably a bad example, but let's try it notheless.
I don't like Facebook and don't use it because your posts are stored as sellable information on it and can easily be sold to the highest bidder if the owner chooses to sell it.
Obviously I'm not going to use the option to log into GOG via Facebook.
But if other people want to have that option I don't see why not. It's their choice to use it and has nothing to do with me.

So we can agree to disagree.

P.S. I'm not trying to bash your opinion, I'm just adding a point to a piece of it.

Have a nice day. :)
Or we can debate further if you like.
The only thing I fear is the lack of curation. If that's gonna be the case, then we'll end up having hundreds of anime shovelware games here too. And after today, it's clear that GOG's curation system is becoming too much flexible for my taste.

There is no closing the floodgates for lolicon anime trash once it is opened. Does GOG really want to be a main destination for that?

Anime was a mistake.

Because GOG is your own personal gaming army? I hate anime and anything weeb related, but I'm glad for people that got this here on GOG.
Just let people enjoy things.

check youtube for videos and walkthroughs, the games are very popular so there should be dozens of videos showing much if not the entire game , before i buy my casual games , yup casual games cause the last 10 years the retail games were meh, so i had to buy games and i decided to get the casualgames ( mostly Hiddenobjectsgames)

Anyway the casualgames are like small games( 2-3 hour sometimes 4 hours ( without hint /tips) to me what visional novels are too others.

As a fan of the visual novel genre I just want to say a thank you to GOG for implementing it. Granted, like a lot of game genres their's a lot, and I do mean A LOT of trash out their, and even more crappy H-VN games, but their's some damn fine stories out their too. It's a genre that's always been a guilty pleasure of mine, and I look forward to seeing more of these titles come to the platform.

That being said, I do have a request. It's not for a game, but for three tags specifically for this new (to this platform) genre. Would you kindly add the following genre tags:
1) Non-Kinetic = This is the type of visual novel that actually has some gameplay, whether it be just picking A or B, or something more deeper. This can be anything from the current "Sunrider Academy" or something like Danganronpa.
2) Kinetic = This is the opposite of the Non-Kinetic genre. These are purely linear, and don't have any gameplay at all bar the button press to continue the story. This is personally a genre I don't play, and as such don't have many examples that immediatly come to mind. I think "eden*" would be such a game.
3) H-Game = This is just straight up porn. It could either be Kinetic or Non-Kinetic, but the acual purpose is just for masterbation, whether it panders to the male or female audience. It's less interested in telling an interesting story, and more intent on delivering fan-service, and often include over-the-top sexual content. This sub-genre is way too big, and is often what people think of when people think of VNs, often giving the genre a bad name.

Gog's gathered the lovers not the haters. Great to see peeps who wouldn't be fans of this genre still welcome them in and accepting that they have entertainment value for others. Empathy FTW!

The VNs that just released are not even close to being shovelware. No idea what you're talking about.

Well we already have the Telltales Games on here, I don't really see the difference, those are basically visual novel too.

I don't mind the VNs being here, but the curation has become wildly inconsistent in some cases. We still don't have the MacVenture games nor the rest of Piko Interactive's games, both of which are on Steam and have seemingly been rejected by gog.

Magmarock: Is this because Valve removed a whole bunch of suggestive VN's from their network. As annoying as it that these products have very young looking girls is suggestive situations the most annoying thing is that fact that their NOT GAMES! Why are they here? The guys at gog can sell what they want I guess but I do wish there was a way I could add all none games to some kind of block list. That way I can at least pretend I'm looking at an online game shop.
I can't speak for the others, but the first two Sunrider titles ARE games. Turn-based tactical combat segments break up the story.
¡¡¡Uyyy pero que zukulemtho!!!
