Let's turn the page.

Visual Novels have arrived on GOG.com! Our first selection includes acclaimed games, revered for their intricate artwork and stimulating stories, up to 66% off until May 29, 1pm UTC.

Higurashi When They Cry Chapters 1-5 (25% off): Spawning a popular anime and manga series, Higurashi is a "sound novel", where meticulously designed audio plays a crucial part in these unique stories. Chapters 1-5 are available today, with Chapter 6 slated for release in the near future.

fault (50% off): Sometimes it takes a healthy dose of pulp sci-fi and a dash of fantasy to weave a powerful cinematic story about the human condition. These two episodes of the ongoing series star the perky princess Selphine and her sarcastic guardian Ritona, as they desperately try to make their way back to their homeland.

Sunrider series (66% off): An alternate universe, intergalactic strife, mech combat, high school, and love all around. Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius (free!), Liberation Day, and Sunrider Academy are a beloved and unique mix of strategy, romance, and visual novel. De-censor patch optional, but come on.

eden* (66% off): Stock up on tissues. This critically-acclaimed love story on a dying planet is a real tear-jerker told with stunning cinematic flair. Humanity is about to be wiped out by a red star but this story is destined to stick around for much longer.
so what's the censorship situation? Eden* seems to be missing the Mosaic content that Mangagamer does include in their website

Not a big VN fan but I'm sure lots of people are satisfied today.

Funny timing there too GOG.

(Now go get me Raven Software's backlog.)

Will old ones like Haotful Boyfriend get an VN tag added?

GOG, thank you for finally accepting visual novels. :)

I'd love to see some WInter Wolves games here as well.

P.S. I don't understand why people are bashing a whole genre of games. Yes, there are bad examples, but every genre has them. There is much more to visual novels than 18+ content, lots of games don't even have it.
If you want an example of an awesome PG visual novel, check out "Ripples" by "sakevisual".
It's free, has brilliant artwork, fitting music and a great story with a positive message.

VoxDeNube: We need 'winterwolves' novel games as well! :)
Agreed.

I'll stick to ones that have some sort of gameplay to them.

Clever move. GOG saw an opening with the recent debacle and they struck hard. Well done!

I wonder if they'll get more...

Ame no Marginal, Memory's Dogma, Narcissu, Root, and (the already DRM-Free via Humble) Word End Economica...

They can keep the million "Sakura" whatever games that I have collected via Humble Bundles though, never managed to finish any of them, they're as pervy as Nekopara but they are very poorly written and not at all fun to read.

Now, Sakura Dungeon, that was an exception for the series with it being a pretty decent dungeon crawler title that just happened to have some quasi-hentai VN aspects to it.

There's going to be a lot of swore wrists and sticky fingers today. So much perv material! Lowering your standards a hell of a bit aren't you GOG?!

tinyE: I really don't have an opinion on these releases, but I am looking forward to sitting back all day and watching people either dance or go ballistic over it. :P
I'm about that.

I... don't believe it. Cool. This is a good start.

For me personally, they're not games, that's why I don't like the idea of them being on this store (which has been heavily curated until today). I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate because of this, but I wanted to give you an answer.

Enebias: they stroke hard
Uh, I think you mean "struck hard". That said, just judging by the screenshots, I'm sure there's plenty of the other thing going on today too.
I never would've expected this to happen, at least not so this soon.
Now I might finally be able to throw Steam from my HDD if few more are coming in the future (like Clannad for example).

btw. I'd advise to avoid the sunrider series aside from Acadamy (which is at least okay) the other 2 suck.

Well, GOG has movies as well, and they picked some decent VNs (though it sucks that the WEE trilogy wasn't included) to start with.

Maybe a new category, rather than listing them with the games, for VNs and actual books (novels, comics, manga, gaming books) separate from the games and movies would be better for you?
Quite unexpected decision considering gog's past disapproving attitude.
