Let's turn the page.

Visual Novels have arrived on GOG.com! Our first selection includes acclaimed games, revered for their intricate artwork and stimulating stories, up to 66% off until May 29, 1pm UTC.

Higurashi When They Cry Chapters 1-5 (25% off): Spawning a popular anime and manga series, Higurashi is a "sound novel", where meticulously designed audio plays a crucial part in these unique stories. Chapters 1-5 are available today, with Chapter 6 slated for release in the near future.

fault (50% off): Sometimes it takes a healthy dose of pulp sci-fi and a dash of fantasy to weave a powerful cinematic story about the human condition. These two episodes of the ongoing series star the perky princess Selphine and her sarcastic guardian Ritona, as they desperately try to make their way back to their homeland.

Sunrider series (66% off): An alternate universe, intergalactic strife, mech combat, high school, and love all around. Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius (free!), Liberation Day, and Sunrider Academy are a beloved and unique mix of strategy, romance, and visual novel. De-censor patch optional, but come on.

eden* (66% off): Stock up on tissues. This critically-acclaimed love story on a dying planet is a real tear-jerker told with stunning cinematic flair. Humanity is about to be wiped out by a red star but this story is destined to stick around for much longer.
IT's a beginning, but we're missing the greatest VN of them all, Fate/stay night.
Oh, and a couple Winter Wolves releases would be neat as well. ;)

thuey: I'm not really a VN fan but...

For those who are hating on the genre because they're not games, have you also railed against GOG for allowing such "garbage" like Gone Home, Firewatch on the site?

Personally I loved Hatoful Boyfriend and would love to see more VNs in that style come over. Like a real classic would be Ever17, even if the translation was dubious. Or Christine Love's stuff would be a great addition.
So much this... not sure if Ladykiller in a Bind would get on here (are there any curation guidelines yet re adult content?) but would "love" (pardon the pun) to see Analogue A Hate Story and Hate Plus on here - both would be instabuys even though I own them over on Steam

Ever read one?

I'm not saying you don't have a point, you do, so long as you have experienced it. You can't boast or criticize a movie you've never seen, and the same applies here.

So GOG only has the censored versions of the Sunrider games?
Why do I get the feeling that I still shouldn't play these at the library?
low rated
I hope this is not a sign that we'll begin to see a decline in quality on GoG games, such as these visual novel "games".

Steam is getting really atrocious these days, filled with this kind of crap.

So GOG only has the censored versions of the Sunrider games?

this is everything I could gather on the patches for these particular games. Somehow I don't think the patches open up anything too, or even remotely, NSFW.

That does vary from VN to VN but these seem pretty tame, although I might be wrong.

tremere110: Let's go Sengoku Rance and the Baldr series! Anyone? No? Just me? Okay then -_-

I prefer my Hgames with lots of gameplay rather than the VN variety. Still good to see these here though.
Duel Savior Justice! Baldr Force Exe! Rance! Illusionsoft!

Yeah... as much as I'd like to see it... I doubt it...
Monster Prom releasing on gog doesn't seem that far off now. :)
Blocked: Sex/Porn

Thank you though for trying.

edit: I got a talking to for watching a Rick and Morty episode last week.

I try my friend, I try. :P

I seriously don't see how this is any worse that cutting someone's head off and pissing on their burning corpse. which you can do on other games sold here, but what do I know? :P

Taking advantage of the recent Steam controversy over banning VN games by bringing over half a dozen popular VN games here with a discount, eh GoG?

Nicely done. These games aren't my thing, but I can appreciate a crafty business move like that. I hope it pays out for you and that more VN fans get the games they want released here in the future.
GOG is getting better and better!
One more vote for the Yay-crowd from me. I hope they are bringing more over time - not necessarily only "Ecchi" stuff but also horror/mystery...

Also, if the art and writing is good I don't mind if they are VNs or "real games" (RPG, strategy, puzzle...), sometimes I'm more into a good read than twitchy fingers or number crunching.

I'd also not mind if they got some real classics of the genre like Divi Dead.

What might be a good idea is to start a central de-censor thread, not just for the new VN/H stuff (and HuniePop), but also classics like Fallout (missing children...).

So GOG only has the censored versions of the Sunrider games?

Nope for Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius. What you can expect is what you can see in the game card. At least with the version that GOG provides.

About Academy, not my thing and never tried it :P

MarkoH01: Question to those who know these VNs. As said I just downloaded "Sunrider Mask of Arcadius". When I wanted to start the game it gives me two choices to start with. Are these two different storys? Which one should I start first?

First Arrival
Mask of Arcadius
Sunrider is currently technically a trilogy and the order is this:
First Arrival
Mask of Arcadius
Liberation Day

It's just that the first two parts of the trilogy are packaged within a single game.

And for those wondering, even with a Patch, the first Sunrider game is completely softcore and doesn't show anything you cannot see in an R rated movie. It's only with the sequel Liberation Day that the game added full hardcore penetration... ;-)
