Let's turn the page.

Visual Novels have arrived on GOG.com! Our first selection includes acclaimed games, revered for their intricate artwork and stimulating stories, up to 66% off until May 29, 1pm UTC.

Higurashi When They Cry Chapters 1-5 (25% off): Spawning a popular anime and manga series, Higurashi is a "sound novel", where meticulously designed audio plays a crucial part in these unique stories. Chapters 1-5 are available today, with Chapter 6 slated for release in the near future.

fault (50% off): Sometimes it takes a healthy dose of pulp sci-fi and a dash of fantasy to weave a powerful cinematic story about the human condition. These two episodes of the ongoing series star the perky princess Selphine and her sarcastic guardian Ritona, as they desperately try to make their way back to their homeland.

Sunrider series (66% off): An alternate universe, intergalactic strife, mech combat, high school, and love all around. Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius (free!), Liberation Day, and Sunrider Academy are a beloved and unique mix of strategy, romance, and visual novel. De-censor patch optional, but come on.

eden* (66% off): Stock up on tissues. This critically-acclaimed love story on a dying planet is a real tear-jerker told with stunning cinematic flair. Humanity is about to be wiped out by a red star but this story is destined to stick around for much longer.

beliar: Sakura series are a drivel for the lowest common denominator.
Thank you. :D

Gilozard: Visual novel fans keep telling me they aren't just excuses for softcore.

This selection is not bearing that out.
And imo it would be ridiculous if this in fact would be the case. It takes a 30 seconds google search max if you really just want to see those pics and the one you will find this way wil probably show much more. So no, I am pretty sure that the ones that are fans of these genre are no pervs at all. There is a reason there are so many fans of this genre out there and fapping alone can't be it. But those people who hate them with a passion in most cases probably have never "played" (or should I say read) a visual novel I 'd say. So chances are that they don't even know what they are talking about. I am glad that GOG is now officially supporting this genre. I am not a big fan of VNs myself but hey, nobody is forcing me to buy. So I am lucky for all fans of VN that GOG decided to add these.

On a sidenote I am also happy that GOG obviously has the guts to do what they (and in this case also their customers) want despite what happening on Steam at the moment. Next step please: uncensored games for everybody ... yes, I know, I am dreaming.

Thanks GOG, more variety is always welcome. So much new stuff on one day is kind of sadistic on the other hand. Not the cheapest day of the year... oO

And PLEASE remember to bring other games/genres, that were rejected before. There ARE users here, who would buy them. All the "Dragon's Lairs", "Uninvited", "Deja Vu 1+2" and so on... PLEASE guys...

5.3 K of mostly positive ..... it's best to read all the reviews cause sometimes it says 56 and after i counted , tehre were 12 so i guess the rating is full with bugs at Steam :D ........... or the user deleted the review ?

XYCat: and as for the reviews, I think that some time ago steam started counting only purchases through steam as reviews qualified for the main score. Reviews from non steam purchases show up but don't count into the score. My guess it's to prevent review frauds with shady devs handing out keys for positive reviews so that their shovelware game appears as a legit good game on steam.
thanks for the reply ..........
yes now i remember reading about shady devs giving free keys in turn for reviews
Steam is a mess ....the trading card had issues, seems they 'cheated' with tradingcards and Steam was looking into it... seems they are still busy.

I'd love to get an arcade-accurate DL port for sale.

Uncensored would probably cause problems with Paypal and the like which would probably cost them customers.
They already mentioned that they don#t mind the uncut patches like Steam does.

But why? It's already DRM-free available on itch.io if I am not mistaken.

grumblycakes: Anime was a mistake.
Looking at this thread alone I see that the majority is glad these VNs have arrived. So from a business point of view it was far from being a mistake. The market is there and GOG is now offering. Simple as that.
So GOG only has the censored versions of the Sunrider games?

What bothers me is that they put time and effort to perform this marketing stunt (even going against their own past curation system) instead of getting DRM-free releases of actual games. I mean, we still don't know if Bioshock is ever going to land here, or if Metro Exodus will be available on GOG on release, or if we'll ever see Dark Souls, or Sleeping Dogs, or Skyrim, or Dead Rising, or stuff like the Zeno Clash series, or whatever. But yeah, let's all rejoice for GOG becoming another indie shovelware platform which allows everything on the shelf (once you accept visual novels and dating sims, you accept everything). I know, I'm being rude, but it just makes me angry that they really put all this effort to bring VNs here, when there are real games still waiting and games who got rejected because they weren't useful for marketing purposes.

CharlesGrey: I'd possibly buy something with a Horror or Fantasy theme, and a nicer, less generic art style.
avatar
saldite: I mentioned previously, but The Silver Case has a really nice art style to it that, while Japanese, isn't that generic, and goes off of a bit different themes than usual VNs. It's more adventure-game styled in some ways, as well.
Yeah, that one seems weird but pretty interesting. Might give it a closer look and pick it up during a sale some time.

According to a tweet from @MangaGamer, "We are working with our friends over at GOG to bring even more products to their platform, including Kindred Spirits on the Roof and A Kiss For the Petals: Maidens of Michael. More information will become available at a later date!".
