Tiny Bang Story, Morphopolis, plus the Enigmatis and Nightmares from the Deep trilogies.

Who doesn't love the look of a messy room, devilishly concealing all the important items when you need them the most? That guilty pleasure of rummaging around for your car keys, wallet, or that grotesque ivory ornament which unlocks the secrets to the family curse, is what Hidden Object Games are all about!
We kick off their arrival on GOG.COM with a fine selection that was hiding in plain sight and some purty 70% discounts until August 10th, 1pm UTC.

Tiny Bang Story takes place on a lovely planet thrown into disarray after an unfortunate clash with a total jerk of a meteor. Help fix it by solving quirky puzzles and scouring hand-drawn screens for objects of interest.

The Enigmatis trilogy begins on the spooky streets of Maple Creek, a place overflowing with secrets, tragedy, and hidden knickknacks! Disoriented and confused after being hit by a furious storm, you must steel your nerves and stay focused on finding that missing girl.

Morphopolis is an evocative puzzle adventure set in an almost-psychedelic forest undergrowth full of curious insects. Gorgeous exploration and fascinating discoveries await.

Ghost ships, doomed romance, pirate treasure, and items in need of finding make up the Nightmares from the Deep trilogy, a chilling tale straight from Davy Jones' locker.

LynetteC: You'll have to let me know what you think. :-)
If I'll still remember it by then ... I won't go and buy them right away, I'll just keep an eye on them, in case there's a good discount some day. But I usually post about most games I've played through in the Games Finished In ... threads, so if I should complete one of those games in the future, chances are my thoughts on it will be found in that thread. Could be quite a while though, with all the others games that keep me busy. ;)
In general, I don´t like HOG´s because they are known for their lesser quality.
but in every genre there are hidden gems.
And this is exactly why I read this thread first, and found out that people actually consider these games among the better/best ones.

And, even without it, Morpopolis looks relaxingly charming + prices are ridiculous, so I would buy it anyway.

Congrats on having new subgenre onboard, here to hoping you will get most of the quality ones.

And I like cheese :)

RPGDEX: Just to add if you ask me "you will be buying "Dark Parables" again? The answer is yes, is part of my collection there on BFG!
I would only buy these from BF:

the original Dark Parables series ( made by Blue Tea Games )
the original Mystery Case Files series ( made by Big Fish Studios )
the Drawn series ( made by Big Fish Studios )
the first Phantasmat game

and i would ignore anything from these sequel factories : Eipix , ERS ( now Rightcom United LP )

Also i'd like to see games from Alawar , Cateia Games .

The "Travelogue 360" games, also by Big Fish I think, were excellent. And a bit different (it's a scrolling spherical panorama instead of a static screen).
I'm so glad GOG expanded to include Hidden Object games in the catalogue.
These games have good story-telling, good puzzles, good interactivity, good adventures, good characters.
They're similar to adventure games, but with an extra layer added to them.

And they require you to think with your brain! Unlike those games that feature under-age, under-dressed girls that are meant for men to lust after.
Quick run for cover...

gamesfreak64: [...]I only created steam account for casual games, mainly for the HOG and card games, becauise GOG had none otherwise i would never used steam[...]
That's why I'm happy that GOG begins to sell HOG and other genres, this way more people will be able to have the choice of buying them here :)

ciemnogrodzianin: N1 has closed ending and may be played alone for sure. Second and third part continues the story, because almost all the stories from Artifex games may be continued this way or another, but I don't remember any Artifex series without satisying ending of the story in a single game. You'll also see after a few games that story may be quite complicated (you usually reveals events from the past), but it's not so important for the gameplay.

Regarding Enigmatis - I've played the trilogy this year. It's more detective story with supernatural aspect. I liked E2 very much. However I still prefer NotD, because I just like marine theme and loved the atmosphere of amazingly drawn old pirate ships locations :)

These games are quite similar and only a theme brings some variety here. So it should be the most important factor in chosing which to play. There are Grim Legends based on some legends, Eventide series based on Slavic mythology, 9 Clues with detective story, Abyss placed in ancient underwater city, Clockwork Tales are steampunk etc. Gameplay and even puzzles are very similar. Scenery, music and theme do make a difference.
Thanks for all the precisions & help :) I really didn't knew what to expect exactly in this genre, and your answer is really helpful !

So, yesterday, I bought the first of NftD ! I played it a bit... and today too (I HAD to continue !)... I have played almost 3 hours I think, and am not far from the end certainly (maybe 1 hour or less ?).
It's a really nice surprise for me. My only regret is that puzzles are often too easy, and that it seems a bit short, but at current price it's not a big deal.
I don't like point & clicks for lot of reasons, and here, it's a kind of very light point & click with some very easy enigmas/puzzles and recurrent hidden objects phases, which is a nice mix. What surprised me a lot is the "fluidity" of the game : I'm almost never stuck, and when I am, if I feel I missed something and don't want to loose time needlessly, there's the hint system. It helped me notice areas I didn't saw, or I simply use it to give me the global direction to speed up my researches.
I really like the tone of the story and the whole presentation (yes, even the cinematics & animations :)). This and the gameplay makes it in its whole a very light-hearted & "friendly" game -which doesn't want to be taken really seriously btw- and I really like that.
For me it's perfect to play during the current big heats, and it's very relaxing between more "complex" games.
I ended up buying the whole trilogy ;) I'll take a look at Enigmatis trilogy, it sounds interesting too !

I hope we'll see more of the bests of this genre on GOG !

Thanks again for you help :)

I'm glad that you've liked it :)
You described the whole experience quite well. After a few titles you'll probably notice also that these games are also very repetitive. However they still work nice as a casual pause between something "more serious". Have fun!
I'm surprised the genre made it here, not because of the genre itself, but because publishers loooooooooooooooove to add crappy DRM to their hidden object games.

Rarely invading the English section of forums, on contrary with the most of happy comments here, I'm with ones who are seeing this as lowering the bar of the storefront's standards... Good Old Games, where are you?
I hope Enchantia: Wrath of the Phoenix Queen make his way here. It was something differrent from the ghost stories with the fantasy theme (elven kingdoms and everything).

Good old games? Lately I can't see any good old game released... maybe 1 every two months or more? I'm still waiting for Tomb Raider Anniversary... Tomb Raider Legend... Heretic... my favorite Hexen: Beyond Heretic... and we are already 2018....

But in fact I'm not so worried. I still keep a lot of my original CD-ROMS and floppy disks. And DOSBOX. But I'm always "rebuying" here my phisical stuff.

llamas: I've been interested in trying a hidden object game. I've heard good things about the Drawn series so I hope those show up eventually.
I've played the first one (Painted Tower), and wasn't very impressed - if you're coming at it from an adventure gaming-angle, the "puzzles" are agonizingly simple, and the plot is nothing noteworthy. It looks nice, though.
Overall, it struck me more as being a kid's game, nothing for a hardened, old gamer like me ;)
Not to say this might not totally be your thing, just - know what to expect :)

The only hidden object game I've ever quite liked was the Dorian Gray Syndrome, so I figure the genre overall really isn't for me. Alas, this is bound to please some people, so, fine with me having this on Gog.
I'd also be fine with being able to filter those so they don't show up for me (no offense to the aficionados!)
I could pretend to be excited, but an advanced version of I Spy just isn't my deck of cards.

I get the feeling that this is one of those, "Germans love David Hasselhoff" things.

GOG can place a HOG filter. This is not "Simon the Sorcerer" or whatever. Can happen a lot of things, but I remember when they where selling games like "Shook Troopers", "King of Fighters"... etc... I was expecting to see here things like "King of Dragons" or "Knights of the round". And all those MAME games it looks in pause now. This can be the same future (just some games and that's all). Or not.

Anyway the games I bought in BFG are still there happens whatever happens.

I mean with this that if there's no a lot of HOG games probably GOG will not place a HOG filter (an ARCADE or CONSOLE GAMES filter is missing), but of course I can't tell for sure
