Release: Hard Reset Redux

Hard Reset: Redux, a heavily upgraded edition of the cult-classic cyberpunk FPS, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 10% launch discount or 85% for owners of Shadow Warrior (2013)!

Humanity is under siege. Bezoar, the last bastion of mankind, is being attacked by bloodthirsty machines seeking to download its extensive data-bank, where billions of digitized human minds are stored. It's time for a last stand. It's time for hard decisions. It's time for a Hard Reset.

The relentless gunplay, the wanton destruction, and the hardcore sensibilities that gained the original its cult fame, are back with a vengeance. Hard Reset: Redux brings a barrage of improvements, including better visuals, a new enemy type, a sweet dash move, a mean-looking cyber-katana, optimized performance, and an all-around more balanced experience. Definitely a far more enjoyable one than what our mechanical overlords would want us to have, should they were allowed to succeed...

Lay waste to an army of nefarious contraptions and cause a Hard Reset: Redux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

IronArcturus: That's good. Also, do you know how long the campaign mode lasts? Does it have have bots for multiplayer?
There is no multiplayer, About 5 hours probably?
Also has secrets in every level and new game plus though.

Really? That's odd for an FPS game. So there's no way to do any kind of skirmish/deathmatch mode?

Nope, just a Single Player Campaign.
Though I think there might be some sort of survival mode.

Thanks for the info!
A chance to win Shadow Warrior 2?! Count me in!
Although I'm still sad GOG never delivered my contest win from over a year ago...

GOG.com: "Send your best Tweet to @GambitiousInc using some combination of the following words: Flying Wild Hog, Hard Reset Redux, Shadow Warrior, Lo Wang.
Those are word combinations.

For the sake of clarity, you might want to add six extra commas.

Vythonaut: Great release, i'll download it ASAP (and hope it doesn't need any major fixes by the way!) although i wish the contest was available in the forum too instead on relying purely on twitter. :)

Wishbone: The problem with that is that the purpose of the contest is not to make GOG users happy, but to cheaply generate hype on social media.

I agree it's annoying. I don't have a Twitter account either, and I'm certainly not going to create one for the sole reason of being a part of GOG's marketing apparatus. It does make me feel like GOG doesn't value their existing long-time customers to any great extent, but I also understand that it's a business and this is a marketing strategy, pure and simple.
This one's not a GOG contest at all -- did no one notice that people are asked to tweet @GambitiousInc, not @GOGcom? And that the rules quoted are "provided by the good folks at Gambitious"? Why would the publisher of a multi-platform game want to wade through entries in a bunch of different places (Steam, GOG, etc.), when they could just have them sent to one central location? I can't imagine why they'd want entries posted here.

That said, I also don't use Twitter, so I won't be participating.

dtgreene: I am not entering, but...

Suppose I were to enter and somehow win the grand prize. Thing is, I do not like NVIDIA due to their lack of open source drivers (and I am not willing to use proprietary graphics drivers). Is there a way that I could say "no" to that particular prize and not have it even shipped?
Ladies and gentlemen, i am honoured to introduce to you the internet: Random promo prize draw with a random product X as prize. Random guy appears on internet stage: "Wah, wah, i hate product/company X. I would not have participated anyway. X sucks so much, wah, wah". Applause...

jamyskis: Actually quicksaves are the thing I want least - I enjoy fixed checkpoints because it encourages a more cautious play style on my part. If I have quicksaves, I tend to get rather lazy and quicksave before any sign of danger. Gets boring.
On the other hand, quicksaves promote experimentation especially if they load... quick enough. The best example in my opinion is Half-Life 1 & 2 where quickloading adds to the gameplay experience (I really enjoy to fool around with my arsenal of weapons, trying to kill the enemies in the most spectacular way possible before moving on) followed by Dishonored (I cleared the first level in five hours due to experimentations with the mechanics!) and Max Payne.

This contest is not being hosted by GOG. The tweets aren't required to mention GOG in any way, only Gambitious. The majority of GOG's contests can easily be entered directly through the site or the forum. GOG values all of its customers. I mean, the GOG Connect service is evidence enough of that, isn't it?

On a side note; in general, most contests require you to use Facebook. As one of the few people in the world who doesn't have a Facebook account, I am always happy when a contest can be entered through Twitter. It is a rare occurrence that I value and appreciate whenever it comes around.

Crosmando: I just played this game for the first time, and tbh it has the same things which annoyed me about Shadow Warrior:
- Too many melee enemies, is there anyone who thinks melee enemies are fun in a FPS?
- SUICIDE melee enemies, those ball things which explode, it's like the return of the suicide drones from Duke Nukem 3D.
- Big enemies have too many hitpoints.

That said I haven't encountered any enemy yet which is an annoying as the shield demons from SW.
I'm liking it a lot, just as I did with Shadow Warrior 2013.
Croud control + bigBoom + environmental stuff is enormous fun ;)
Both games are great! (imo), looking forward for SW2
Tempted to purchase, but postponed until Linux binary materializes. ;)
Tried it for a short while, figuring I might as well give this version a chance since it only cost me $3. I still don't like it, for the same reasons I didn't like the original version. Enemies are constantly in your face, the small size and quick speed of the common enemies is annoying, and it feels like you often can't avoid taking damage.
Looks like Linux version can happen after all:

I own this on Steam so I don't if I should get it or wait to see if it becomes a game in the GOG connect promo
