A gritty noir-punk action-adventure set in a world dependent on a rapidly diminishing natural resource – Gunbrella from Devolver Digital is now available on GOG alongside its Deluxe Edition.

Fill the rain-soaked boots of a gruff woodsman on a quest for revenge, entering an unfamiliar town armed only with the titular Gunbrella, a high-caliber firearm that doubles as an umbrella. Your hard-nosed investigation soon becomes entangled with the inner workings of a creepy cabal of ghouls and gangsters, cops and cultists, and the fallout of corporate exploitation.

It’s a thrilling, side-scrolling platformer in which you’ll uncover the dark secrets of a gritty, tangled metropolis and battle diabolic villains – now that sounds like fun to us!
Uh, these tags make no sense.

Female protagonist? Uh, sure doesn't seem it.
Roguelite? Not mentioned in the blurb. But if so, why?
Metroidvania? Again, not mentioned in the blurb at all.
Visual novel? Sure doesn't seem it.
At first I got my hopes up that this would be a Bayonetta clone.

Mmm, interesting.

*clicks on the link*

Oh... it's another 2D pixel-art platformer/metroidvania/roguelite/whatever. Sigh.

I can only agree.
I mean, yeah, there are some awesome games of this type but now I'm just getting tired of them. Where did the "innovation of indie games" go?

Same disappointment here T_T
Tired of Pixelated platformer/roguelike-lite...
I really must ask GOG to step up their copy editing game.

I would have described the game as a dusty gothic steampunk platformer, with light adventuring on the side.

But also now would be a good time to admit to using a fuzzy logic neural network for game tagging because it feels like some program looked over the game's screenshots and tried to guess them from circumstance.
I have to admit, the promotional art has intrigued me a bit. The other aspects of this game that I have discovered after following the store link just butchered the expectation to bits.

Maybe it's possible to switch characters, or they get switched for story reasons during the course of the game? Even if that were the case, it seems strange to use "Female Protagonist" when the majority of the footage shows a clearly male-looking PC.

Maybe, he identifies as a woman. Nowadays you never know.

Possible, but not probable, because if it were the case, GOG would also have added the LGBTQ+ tag in addition to Female Protagonist.

This screenshot shows four characters on the left part of the screen, one of whom looks like the female version of Rambo.

In this one, you can see one of the four following the main character. I don't rule out the possibility that it could be an enemy.

And in this video, Rambolette is talking to the main character, so there, at least, we have a candidate qualifying for the female protagonist role. Whether she will actually join the PC and can be played or just act as a sidekick is impossible for me to tell, and none of this is proof for my theory, but it makes it more likely.

Let's just wait for an official or someone who owns the game to tell us how it really is.

The roguelite part was confirmed by the devs to be inaccurate (for some reason, it was used on Steam as well, but I think it was since removed).

As for the female protagonist, that tag is also missing on Steam, and it might just be a joke: there was a joke review on Steam, stating that "Mary Poppins finally stopped shaving and started shooting" or something along those lines, maybe someone thought it would be funny to take it literally and added the tag or there was a mistake somewhere.

Edit: It seems like the female protagonist tag was also used (and then removed) on Steam at some point, so it's highly likely it was a "practical joke" or something, which got "ported over" accidentally to GOG.

And sometimes a cigar is a ragic, in desperate need of a proofreader.

Quite possible that it was just a joke. The reference to Mary Poppins someone made in a Steam review is indeed funny!

How strange it is that an umbrella causes people to remember such iconic characters as hers. When I looked at the screenshots and saw the main character wielding an umbrella as a weapon, it caused me to remember Otto Simanek in his famous role as Pan Tau. Sweet memories. :)

Edit: It seems like GOG also removed the tag, and so the case of 'Detective Bearcule Gogbearov and the Female Protagonist in Gumbrella' has been solved. ;-)

Really wish people would stop adding "punk" to the end of something to pretend its a new and fresh genre.
