Beware the Black Death, destroyer of kingdoms.

<span class="bold">Grand Ages: Medieval</span> a global strategy game of war and economics, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com.

How do you feel about gameplay on a grand scale? Well, Grand Ages: Medieval is ready to tickle your fancy of grandeur. There are hundreds of settlements, and over 30,000,000 Square Kilometers of Europe, Africa, Middle East and Scandinavia - and when you zoom in on your local lumberjacks going about their day, the immensity of it all immediately hits home.
Grand Ages: Medieval is first and foremost a game of economics and city building. You'll start out with a lonely settlement to build up from scratch, while slowly building up trade networks and relationships with neighboring, up-and-coming kingdoms, just like yours. The goal? Total domination, obviously. But whether you set out to to achieve medieval superiority through trade and coin, or sword and shield - the choice is yours to make.

Rule your transcontinental kingdom in <span class="bold">Grand Ages: Medieval</span> now on GOG.com.
Im really waiting to see what the reviews for this game will be on gog since the steam reviews have squashed it in to the ground already. But looking at some of them it seems people don't have the wit or patience to play complex games anymore or were expecting Total War/Civ 5 clone.

torham: Does this mean there is no LAN or direct connect multiplayer, only online through galaxy?

bgilliford: Sadly it appears as though this is the case. Which is very disappointing. GOG Prides itself on not having DRM, except forcing multiplayer through a steam-type client is essentially DRM. It's making it obvious that you can't use the multiplayer portion of this game if you do not wish to use GOG galaxy. Tbh the fact that people are being forced to be online in any way shape or form to play multiplayer seems a bit wrong to me.

I really hope this is corrected at some point. I really want LAN play because I'm moving and I am going from an isolated small town to a fairly large one and I'd like to start organizing lan parties.
Still waiting for people to realize this. I made a thread a while ago that GOG should require Galaxy matchmaking games to have Direct connect/LAN in their games. That would be the DRM-Free way of doing it. If not, they're simply another company pushing a service based multiplayer matchmaking system on games, just like Steam. And yes, some of those games may never have appeared here without offering that option, but some might have used a more DRM-Free variant instead. Now there's no need for them to bother with that since GOG has service based matchmaking available to them already.

Mahmoudgog: I am still unable to install the game through GOG Galaxy because the game tag on my shelf still say 'not available yet'. Bought the game as prepurshase and been waiting for two weeks only to see soundtrack only.
Contact support if you haven't already. Unfortunately it's weekend so it may take till monday until GOG staff can fix it for you. You could also try refressing your account to see if that's any help.

I already sent to support the issue. I will try to logout and login.
Thanx for help

That's an amazing idea! :D
Could you post a link to that thread, please?

Sure but it's pretty old by now

Thanks. In my opinion, we should create a wishlist entry and possibly create a new thread.

Unfortunately, I don't know how I should word the wish because I don't know that much about how match-making works...

B0SC0: The Multiplayer, Leaderboards and Achievements require a login to Galaxy to function. Everything else can be used offline or without Galaxy.
What about the position that Galaxy is called an "optional client"? Is that also only an option for now? A broken promise? DRM-free means that there is no further restriction of functions and this also includes multiplayer. Okay for me as Linuxuser there is even no client so I see: No Linux-version in the near future. Am I correct?
Mandatory Galaxy client for multiplayer? GOG, are you insane?

Not the first game to do so.

Nor will it be the last. People need to get used to it.

Online Multiplayer is not DRM. Especially if we consider what GOG has always considered DRM free, and since there is no standard definition of DRM, what they consider DRM free is all that matters here. How long has CD-keys and online account based MP games have been on GOG? I think it like 5+ years or something like that. Now all of sudden because of Galaxy the complaining about it doesn't end. GOG has always maintained the the game itself, not it's features will remain DRM free and that single player will always just work. I don't ever remember them saying anything about online multiplayer... probably because they realize that is an unrealistic goal.

If a game does or does not include LAN has always been design choice that is up to the developer of the game, be pissed at that... don't call it what it isn't DRM because they didn't provide a feature that you wanted.

To be honest that fact people are still complaining about this is ridiculous... it's not going to change.

The very first game to require a CD key for multiplayer was Sacrifice, which was also one of the very first releases here on GOG.

You also recognize about what we are talking here and what is compared? Galaxy is to be described OPTIONAL. And now it is a needed component for multiplayer? Piece by piece the GOG-platform is going to get rid of its own values.
A game like "Victor Vran" uses its own infrastructure, not the best but okay then it should be it. And now what? The so called mandatory client for more?

How is that any different then one of the games that require an online account to play multiplayer that is already here on GOG? Not using Galaxy does not prevent you from playing the game, no more than not making that online account does not prevent you from playing the game.

I've said it before online multiplayer is not self contained, it will always depend on something.... the internet, other players or a service. Here it's Galaxy. You either by choice accept those conditions or you do not.

Thanks Grargar... so pretty much GOG's entire existence if we believe these CD keys and accounts for online multiplayer (which I don't of course) are DRM. People should have raised up against it back then if it really bothered people, not now how many years later with Galaxy.
