Beware the Black Death, destroyer of kingdoms.

Grand Ages: Medieval a global strategy game of war and economics, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com.

How do you feel about gameplay on a grand scale? Well, Grand Ages: Medieval is ready to tickle your fancy of grandeur. There are hundreds of settlements, and over 30,000,000 Square Kilometers of Europe, Africa, Middle East and Scandinavia - and when you zoom in on your local lumberjacks going about their day, the immensity of it all immediately hits home.
Grand Ages: Medieval is first and foremost a game of economics and city building. You'll start out with a lonely settlement to build up from scratch, while slowly building up trade networks and relationships with neighboring, up-and-coming kingdoms, just like yours. The goal? Total domination, obviously. But whether you set out to to achieve medieval superiority through trade and coin, or sword and shield - the choice is yours to make.

Rule your transcontinental kingdom in Grand Ages: Medieval now on GOG.com.

I'm not assuming anything. I'm merely asking a few questions. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond - even though it's mostly conjecture.

That said, I don't deny the majority of people care less and less about being free of a client app. GOG knows full well though that if there's a place where customers value freedom is here, that's why they go out of their way to make clear the client is FULLY OPTIONAL. Well, not in this game.#Q&_^Q&Q#LINK:39#Q&_^Q&Q#

That's not true because other devs have a fully-functional multiplayer mode, albeit sometimes with a serial or some other way of identifying customers. As I wrote to GOG, we can all be grown-ups and admit that's the opposite of "fully optional client app" as advertised, or deny until expection becomes rule as other policies.

I'm not complaining, I don't even like multiplayer, I'm just pointing out something plainly obvious. To be more constructive, here goes something worth complaining: people that do like multiplayer are currently unable to cross play with Steam, which would probably not happen if the multiplayer activation was global and embedded in the game.

RafaelLVX: Bad move, at least for GOG's audience (I know I won't be installing Galaxy any time soon). Just saying.
avatar
qwixter: Then I guess you get to miss out on those things by choice.
Yeah, all hail choice. Devs choose not to embed a multiplayer structure into the game (independent of each store client app), people choose to cross play, oh wait, they can't, that's not working. ;)

Um, you clearly missed my point.

Of course some do, and they are designed like that regardless if they are on Steam or some other storefront. Essentially they build there own ways to handle matchmaking and all of that, which was much more common on older games before Steam compared to today.

As I said they're not going to build a way to handle that traffic just for GOG when they use steamworks and are coming from Steam to GOG which handles all of that for them and all they have to do is include it. Therefor it was logical for GOG to offer a way to do that like Steam does so they don't get left with gimped version of a game compared to the game on Steam.

Perhaps you should take a look at what the steamworks api does: https://partner.steamgames.com/documentation/api

Without it, devs either build there own ways to handle it in game or use another service to accomplish the same thing. Rarely do devs build there own anymore though. It's far easier to just use the steamworks api, which obviously GOG can't really use. So they of course built their own api with Galaxy. It's a lot of extra coding that can be completely avoided during development.

Not specifically talking about Grand Ages: Medieval... but in general, a lot of new games today utilize steamworks for online multiplayer.

Sure sounds like complaining. ..

Yet again, another game that has a Linux version on Steam but not on GOG. Can anyone from the GOG team give a reason for this? I've asked the same question regarding Dungeons 2 (another Kalypso title) and there was no reply to that.

Metro 2033 Redux
Metro Last Light Redux
Grand Ages Medieval
Dungeons 2

These 4 games have one thing in common, they all came on GOG without their Mac/Linux versions and the lack of a proper reason why.
Hi!
Sorry to bother you but i didn't get my Camelot DLC and the other (bonuses for pre-order)...
I play offline.
Any help is welcome.

Btw,how to disable online mode,i'm tired to see the message "an error occured blah blah blah".

Tropico 4 is missing Mac version too -> also Kalypso. I wonder though what happened to the linux version.
