Beware the Black Death, destroyer of kingdoms.

Grand Ages: Medieval a global strategy game of war and economics, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com.

How do you feel about gameplay on a grand scale? Well, Grand Ages: Medieval is ready to tickle your fancy of grandeur. There are hundreds of settlements, and over 30,000,000 Square Kilometers of Europe, Africa, Middle East and Scandinavia - and when you zoom in on your local lumberjacks going about their day, the immensity of it all immediately hits home.
Grand Ages: Medieval is first and foremost a game of economics and city building. You'll start out with a lonely settlement to build up from scratch, while slowly building up trade networks and relationships with neighboring, up-and-coming kingdoms, just like yours. The goal? Total domination, obviously. But whether you set out to to achieve medieval superiority through trade and coin, or sword and shield - the choice is yours to make.

B0SC0: Our current aim is to have a post-launch patch out by Monday at the very latest, which will correct this Main Menu pop-up and reduce the pop-ups to the Multiplayer and Leaderboard options, with a tooltip displaying over the friends list option, to highlight that these functions require GOG Galaxy log-in.
Is multiplayer restricted to Galaxy users?

The Multiplayer, Leaderboards and Achievements require a login to Galaxy to function. Everything else can be used offline or without Galaxy.
When can you actually download the game on Galaxy?

Isn't it possible for non-Galaxy users to get an option to activate multiplayer with a serial key?

Oh, and one more thing: although in the case of Tropico 3 the serial number is only used to gain access to the leaderboard as well as user-created challenges I can't help but wonder why it's no longer mentioned on the game card. There used to be a notice in bold type.

You should already be able to download the game via Galaxy. We tested this just before the game's release. There may be a slight delay for some people as the Galaxy-compatible files get distributed :)

I would say no, no it is not considering the multiplayer is built on Galaxy so Galaxy files would be needed for the MP to work. Look at it this way though, the alternative would probably have been the game releasing with no multiplayer at all... if it even released here.

Well, they just released Dungeons 2 and it features 'Four competitive multiplayer modes for up to four players via LAN and Internet' though I don't know the specifics regarding access to the multiplayer.

is there a problem with playing multiplayer with steam users? or am i just too dumb to make it work

I bought the game here on GoG, a friend of mine on steam. When I try to play MP with him, i cant see any games (and yes, i am using GOG Galaxy, it says MP enabled)

Different developers, same publisher. The developers of Dungeons 2 decided I'm guessing to use there own servers to host multiplayer, & built there own MP infrastructure for the game. Not surprising because they seem to be just simple competitive modes. A lot of developers however don't do this... they use services like Steam, or Galaxy, or Gamespy (when that was still a thing) because it's easier to integrate with your game and probably cheaper.

The developers of Grand Ages: Medieval decided to utilize the Galaxy API to do multiplayer. This is not something that can be easily changed after the game has been completed as you suggest by "activating multiplayer with a cd key". At this point Galaxy would be to far integrated in the MP aspect for something like that.

It was a design choice, and I imagine more games will release with MP only via Galaxy as we go on. Those games probably also use steamworks on Steam. Meaning they are not building their own multiplayer infrastructure so if they released here without Galaxy multiplayer they would simply release without any at all most likely. There not going to build one just for GOG, which doesn't even have a strong MP community as it is.

I'm not sure if this game has crossplay or not... if it doesn't then that won't work. Only a few games currently support that right now.
