RafaelLVX: You're tackling the why and denying the what. Using a client app to play: what it is, is a form of DRM. Why they choose to use it is beyond the point because what GOG likes to advertise is that all games are strictly DRM-free. If matchmaking is not for free, the code for multiplayer is complicated, if you "completely agree" with the decision, it's all fine. It doesn't change the fact that this DRM in a game in GOG.

GOG created the policy they're breaking, not me. You don't care about a little DRM, so why the hell do you care if people are pointing it out?

qwixter: So you want the choice of only steam? Because that's the choice you are asking for. It's not like gog waves a magical wand, and this multiplayer "drm" would be gone. To get rid of this "drm", the devs would have to write their own multiplayer matchmaking service, and that's not going to happen for the vast majority of games. So the end result would be that multiplayer games would not work at all on gog, or they would avoid gog. Gog is already the redheaded stepchild when it comes to patches compared to steam.
And you think building another "Steam" is the solution of the stepchild-problem? Sorry, but this is a false argument. Either accepting DRM or not. And I won't accept DRM even it is declared as "optional".
Its odd that people were happy when GOG had (practically) only single player games that were DRM free; but now, because there's a completely optional portion of multiplayer added to the still DRM free game, we're all up in arms.

I can't even... I just can't even.

Ok. I still say it's not DRM. You should be on the dev/publisher forum complaining to them about not including better multiplayer options, not the seller forum, since gog is only providing a more comprehensive alternative to steam. The way I see it, it's completely missing the point to complain here.

That is even very simple: No compromise for that. GOG should keep their promise. They said: Playing online connection is needed. Fine so far. But there is no other option and for now it is not clear what happens if Galaxy is not installed on the system. Perhabs somebody can share the experience? Afterwards: The publisher can also read here because it is regarding the DRM-free release. When posting that now to the publisher what do you think happens? I've done that in the past and got only feedback from the users just to keep quiet or better not to buy the game.

Can't agree with you more. Multi player needs to have something more to be able to navigate and set up for play. You have to have someplace to act as a go between, unless you are on a lan. Even NWN needed a client server to get multi working on other than lan. Requiring an optional client for multi for a mostly single play game is not DRM as I would see it but if that optional client were required for all play, that would be a type of DRM.

This isn't like a steam or origin client that is ALWAYS required you know.

Yes, for now this is NOT Steam or Origin. But it could become that very fast through this techniques. Zero tolerance for this!
