You have my wrench. And my pickaxe.

Gnomoria, a gigantic sandbox where you manage the lives of miniature gnomes, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 50% launch discount.

Gnomes are widely considered as greedy, ingenious, often mischievous little devils. But they can sure build a mean city. Or an orc-killing contraption. And these are solid foundations for a thriving community which can eventually turn into a vast kingdom under your steady guidance. All you need to do is point them to the right materials, craft the best items, set cunning traps, and erect sturdy structures that your gnomes will be proud to call home. Every element of the procedurally-generated, sandbox environment is destructible and potentially usable, as long as you have the right gnome for the job.

Put your little citizens to work and help make Gnomoria the perfect place to live, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 50% launch discount will last until April 27, 12:59 PM UTC.

In the press:
"It's easy to get lost in designing the perfect little base for your gnomes" - Kotaku
"Insanely fun and highly addictive village management game" - Destructoid
"The more you put into Gnomoria, the more you get from it" - Pixel Perfect Gaming
What!? I thought this had been released like 3 years ago... Anyway, I heard good things about it. I'll give it a shot in the future.

So, what's better, this or Craft the World? Dwarf Fortress sounds like something I would really enjoy but that I don't have adequate time for. But the idea minus the learning appeals to me.
Ooooh, dwarf fortress lite? I might buy this if it's good. Will wait for the reviews :)

Well it's 'very positive' on Steam with 2500 reviews.

snowkatt: i misread that title actually

..ahem
I was about to ask "Misread as what?", but then I saw it myself...and now I can't un-see it....

tinyE: and on a less serious note, think I'll have to pick this game up eventually. All I do is sandbox now.
Once you go sandbox, you never go...bandbox? Hmm, I'll have to work on that....

Hence my earlier joke about getting a shot of penicillin. :P

It was also a great Seinfeld episode.

Wow, I thought this game had fallen in development hell after all this time (it was in public beta for 3 years)

That was Early Access. It only hit official release/1.0 around 2 months ago.

Edit: And while I'm thinking of it, for anyone who hasn't played it yet: the very first things you want to do are set up a pasture for your yaks and a wheat farm. Do not use all of your straw for making beds, because your yaks need it for food. Then, no earlier than the second or third day, you'll want to butcher your male yak for bones to make a needle. The female should be pregnant by then (with no indication, unfortunately), and you can always buy a new male yak when a merchant arrives (which itself is a somewhat involved process: you'll need to invite an ambassador and take care of his or her needs, as well as building a market stall and things to sell (or just clip/fell hundreds of trees, hehe)).

A.K.A. the one with the Tractor Story?
Why does it look like the graphics were shamelessly lifted from StoneSense, the Dwarf Fortress visualiser?

Ugh! That sounds more like work than fun, which is exactly the reason I was never interested in Dwarf Fortress either.
