Removing the criminal element.

Freedom Force Pack, that contains two strategy/RPGs bursting with uncontainable super-powers, is now available DRM-free on GOG.com with a 66% launch discount. Buying each game individually grants you a 50% discount, instead.

Oh, the alien scum really did it this time. They've bathed Earth's scum in a powerful catalyst known only as Energy X and now a whole legion of super-powered troublemakers is wreaking havoc across our fair planet. There is only one logical course of action in order to contain the situation: gather a Freedom Force of similarly powered heroes and set out to kick the criminals' spandex-ed behinds.

You will have the option to either create your own superhero or choose one of the available ones before you join Freedom Force in their globetrotting effort to bring justice upon the beefed-up evil-doers. Most of the spectacular butt-kicking will take place in the colourful streets of Patriot City but the heroes will eventually have to unleash their unique powers in other dimensions and time periods. Especially when someone disturbs the space-time continuum, leading to the historically inaccurate victory of the Axis forces during World War II. But don't go fixing those history books just yet, unless it is to include a chapter chronicling the epic campaign known as Freedom Force vs The Third Reich.

Pick your comic book-inspired superhero and smack some sense into those overpowered villains with the Freedom Force Pack, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 66% bundle discount and the 50% individual discounts will last until April 5, 13:59 BST / 5:59 AM PDT / 8:59 AM EDT.
Very underrated titles, first was one of the best games I ever played.

Made by irrational games, before they went and done small stupid bioshock series (maby someone heard about it).

Now i can enjoy it without any drm - thank you gog ;]

The only problem I had when it came out - it was very hard with "stock" heroes and too easy with custom one - wonder if its still the case - stock playthru it is ;]

Stevedog13: Can someone tell me about the game play in these titles? Freedom Force says it's "Role-playing - Turn-based - Tactical" and Freedom Force vs 3rd Reich says "Action - Role-playing - Sci-fi" which leaves me a bit confused. Do the two games have wildly different play styles, one a Turn-Based Tactical and the other an ARPG?

andysheets1975: They're basically real time with pause RPGs. Just pause the game, give your orders to your heroes, and then see how things unfold and decide whether you need to change tactics, pick up and throw that car, or whatever.
Well that's a little disappointing, since Real Time with Pause is my most hated play style. Oh well, guess I just saved myself a few bucks. Thanks for answering my question Andysheets, here's a +1 for you.

parrker: Does anyone know if Freedom Force can be launched on Mac OS using CrossOver or something similar? I only recently realised that a lot of Windows-only games can be played on a Mac, and don't have much experience yet.
PlayOnMac (which, like CrossOver, is based on Wine) even has a premade installation guide for the GOG version of the second game (vs. The 3rd Reich), which is promising. I'm currently trying to install it and will report shortly if it runs (I have said game since before its removal, but do not yet have the first one).

EDIT: Yup, game runs fine. At least so far as the tutorial goes. Did have a little trouble getting PlayOnMac to cooperate just after installing the game, but restarting the machine and trying again worked fine. Also, the game seems to work best if Wine is set to using a virtual desktop and give a couple errors at launch otherwise, making it look like you just get a black screen (but those can just be cancelled out of and the game seems to run fine afterwards).

I already own FF2. Is FF1 better or worse?

better - if you liked second, first one is no brainer - better story, locations, explained heroes origins

JKeift: I've been avoiding these on Steam because they reportedly do not run well on modern operating systems. If any can confirm whether the GOG versions are compatible with Windows 7 and run problem-free, I'm buying the pack in a heartbeat.

GOG does list support for XP-10
So I guess they should.
I'd like to hear a first hand account of the first one actually working. The game has been pretty much non functional for years on Steam (game launches, but none of the controls actually work).

I can't confirm the first game working but I have the second from when GOG first had it released on here, that always ran fine for me and I never had any problems with the controls at all.
I played the first one for a little bit, buf found it too linear. Perhaps this changes after the first missions.

The game I really wanted to play was a superheroes game made on the X-COM style of gameplay.
Does anyone know of a game like this, other than Guardians: Angents of Justice by Simtex / Microprose?
Very surprising, GOG, thank you! :)
Dammit, I misread that as Freedom Fighters and got really excited. :/
I can't wait to pummel unsuspecting civilians with lampposts again >:D

I played the demo 10 or more years ago. All I remember was taking down lamp posts and hitting people with it. I think they were random pedestrians?

But perhaps I am remembering it wrong. Perhaps they were baddies after all :P

Yeah, the second one runs great, but somewhere between Windows XP and 7, the first game crapped out. Its really odd that it won't work. AFAIK, both games run on the same engine, the second is almost a mod of the first.
It's about time

FOR PATRIOT CITY!
