Eliminating the impossible, embracing the improbable

Four Sherlock Holmes games, chronicling the point'n'click exploits of the brilliant consulting detective, are available now, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 60% launch discount if purchased individually or 80% as part of the <span class="bold">221b Baker Street</span> bundle.

The somber sound of a deftly played violin spills in from the adjacent room. Sherlock must be in a mood again. The good doctor takes another look at the notebook where he keeps records of his dear friend's most spectacular adventures. Hmm, which one should he write about in an attempt to lift his spirits?

Maybe about <span class="bold">The Awakened</span>. This is where they faced a sinister cult worshiping terrible gods and had to unravel a downward spiral of senseless brutality and madness. The recollection still gives Watson shivers.

What about that time when the ultimate puzzle-solver met his <span class="bold">Nemesis</span>, as he engaged in a mental duel with the legendary gentleman thief Arsene Lupin?

Perhaps he can write about how they chased the infamous <span class="bold">Jack the Ripper</span> through the seedy Whitechapel district, while painstakingly examining those horrible murder scenes.

He is somewhat reluctant to recount <span class="bold">The Testament of Sherlock Holmes</span>. A thrilling case to be sure, but also one that revealed his companion's darker side, as he was fighting to clear his name of some truly vile accusations.

This is harder than he thought. See, they are all so chock-full of suspense, brilliant brain teasers, fateful encounters, and picturesque locales. Perhaps it's time to consult the charismatic man in the other room. After all, this is how they managed to tackle all those challenges in the first place: as a team.

Exercise your crime-solving skills in four adventures featuring the legendary Sherlock Holmes, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 60/80% discounts for <span class="bold">221b Baker Street</span> will last for the duration of the Bundleopolis Sale.

IAmSinistar: Great to see these here, instant purchase! Even though I just bought a CDROM of 5 Sherlock games last week. :D
Thats a nice offer.

I ordered lords of xulima way back on bol dot com... the printed manual was missing, they said, it did not had a manual... but their page claimed it did... so i returned the game...

i wanted to have the printed manual, i was willing to buy the game with the paper manual for 20 euros :D
but since they claim it has no paper manual i will never buy it...

MarkoH01: I, too :)

gamesfreak64: German is hard because of: der dem das den entgegen entlang, .... and many more nasty words
Die und Das,
Die Fraulein ......
anyway i think you know what i mean.
avatar
MarkoH01: Actually it would be "DAS Fräulein" and quite nobody is saying "Fräulein" today anymore here in Germany :)
But I guess that was not the point you were trying to make ;)
nope.... i was merely saying that online ads claim : learn dutch in ... days is nonsens, you cant learn proper dutch in that short period, even our natural born people who grow up with the dutch language being teached have difficulties with it, so dutch is quite complicated just like the dutch people, who are great in being/staying small...

as for german... i had it for 4 years only, and that was in the end of the 70s toward the beginning of the 80s so back then everything was different...
german was not required so i gladly dropped it :D
english was required back then aswell as dutch we could not drop those classes.

Anyway, german and dutch language are two languages that resemble eachother a lot compared to dutch - french or dutch spanish/italian.... somehow i feel the germans and dutch are closely connected without them knowing it.
I mean read the lyrics of our national dutch anthem :D

Belgium ofcourse sounds the most like dutch minus some french sounding words.

Is Secret of the Silver Earring not regionally priced for Latin America? The other games are cheaper for me, but that one is still $10. Seems weird.
I want to complain about this Sherlock Holmes bundle.

I thought the game was afoot, instead it turns out to be a digital download :-P
Wonderful. I'm a huge Sherlock Holmes fan and the Frogwares Sherlock Holmes games are instant buys for me.

Still holding out for both of the games in the Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes series by the way.
Great Holmes bundle! I'm really happy this is on sale. Thanks, GOG!
And for those who don't know, the developer has a great sense of humor. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bc5x9tclNh0

gamesfreak64: Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes - The Case of Serrated Scalpel
that looks good :D
the only thing i'd turn off is the awfull midimusic and the font they used is a bit messy to read, other then that its a clasic click and point.
I actually liked the music. ^^; As for the text - I think I remember you could choose between a serif and unadorned font in the preferences. Not sure though, it's been a long time.

thanks for the reply...
the font 'settings' in old games:

i dont know for sure but in the old times (pc) there were game fonts that were not embedded (hard coded in the main game)but in a folder :D
I dont think they had code abck then to check for font info, so what i tried was placing a copy of a reradable font and just rename the font, sometimes it worked, but i guess today's code will probbaly check for things or have nasty locked code like all that unity shites.

Back then they often used wav files (lower quality) or wma, the plus was that you would be able to load these files and in case of echoes just removed the echo.
But nowadays devs are 'lazy' and use weird gamecreators which use non standard video and audio formats (i guess they are afraid users might see something or adapt the sounds to remove as much of the reverbed effects,.
In the old days of gaming (the good era) bik files (bink player) were often used and many of the data could be 'modified' i loved that freedom, today we have to google for ways to unpack all those nasty packers they use, the convert the exotic audifiles back once we have adjusted some things.

Sometime casual games have a nasty loaud echoed click, so i always check what the file format is for that audio, with luck they are common audiofiles , loose files that is not that compressed shit thats put into a hugh file thats craploaded with all the audio in it (they love to use that today, i see many 500meg or 1 GB files with unsupported sounds in it which will be 'read' and used when the game needs them.

me too - although have rose tatoo on original CD - excellent games they still are
Aaaaand bought, all of them. Although I'm sad that only 2 out of 5 have Spanish translation (I think at least some of them exist, but they aren't available on Steam and GOG).
Was a nice surprise to see a bundle of these cheap. Couldn't help myself.
It seems very interesting, and I'm loving Sherlock Holmes in general (and Lovecraft, and Arsène Lupin :))... But I don't like point & clicks, where there are usually a big lack of logical solutions and you often have to try every combinations of objects (which is something I don't find very funny and interesting :P).
Are these games still advised to someone like me ? Are they "hard" ?
Is this more "mystery-adventure" oriented, or more "point & click" ?

Played Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper and the game froze when I had to go to the bookstore and clicked on
it on the map. Since the Save-Function didn´t work as well, I have to start all over again.
Anybody else who got this issues? I don´t mind starting it again from the beginning since I liked the game so far,
but if it is freezing on different occasions and there´s no way to save along the road this would be a complete
waste of time...

Can we expect to get Crimes & Punishments here in the future?
That was a great game, even better than what L.A Noire tried to.
