Lucian_Galca: What about offline MP? It should have AI bots like the original, the console versions anyways. Or offline SP skirmish mode rather I mean.

Barry_Woodward: Not that I can find.
Hmmm, maybe i'm remembering wrong then. Could have sworn the N64 version had bots though.

No, it definitely did.

Yeah. Kind of disappointing if this version doesn't have them.

They did add content from the N64 version, just not the bots. Maybe eventually, with a future update.

If people want the bots to return, it would make sense to ask the people in charge at Nightdive Studios:

Ooh, is this another remaster from Kaiser? If so, I guess I'm in for something legitmately good.

This one I actually sort of remember. I used to watch my dad play it when I was very little and it might've been the first 3D first person game I'd ever seen. At the very least the first 6-DOF shooter.

When I was slightly older, I got the PlayStation version and I found it significantly less exciting. Then I learned it was a rip off of a game called Descent.

I don't think I want to plop down $20 for this, but when it's on sale... sure. Maybe.
Another remastered version without giving access to the original game? Disappointing!
Steam has the native Linux-version of this.. Why is it missing here?

GOG.com: ...
Hi GOG. There were reports that the devs removed the LAN multiplayer from the game and that multiplayer requires Galaxy. Is that true?
I remember playing this game back when it came out, the graphics were the best i had seen at the time. I almost couldn't believe how good it looked, lol. This is one of the few games in my collection i haven't been able to get working on newer PCs, so I'll definitely get this. Just a few more old school FPS games I'm still waiting for, Wheel of Time for example. Thought they would have this by now, it's a GT Interactive game on the original Unreal engine. Descent to Undermountain woudl be nice as well. Hexen II + expansion, and Heretic II (though not a FPS).

The two quotes above are related. The multiplayer relies on Galaxy and there's no LAN. Since the multiplayer relies on Galaxy (as does the achievements) and there isn't a Linux version of Galaxy (yet), they've probably decided against a Linux release (for now) so Linux players aren't out raising hell about how they've paid money for a compromised release.

timppu: - Each level has a timer, ie. you have to clear the level within a certain time limit, or lose _all_ your remaining lives (ie. instant game over if the timer runs out). So, no time to search the tunnels and try to advance cautiously, just rush rush rush hoping to make it to the end alive.

Guter: Thanks a lot for this posting! I never played the original and wasn't aware of a potentiial problem like this. A time limit is a no buy for me! So I'm interested as well in an answer to that question...
Not all the maps have time limits.

The original poster would do well to play past the first level before ripping on the game quite so strongly.

Thanks for the confirmation. So I won't buy this game although I love 6DF games.
It's a pity that proper lighting effects from the weapons in this game were popular around that time then disappeared in games during the mid to late 00s IIRC.

A lot of graphics tech from the late 90s, early 00s seemingly disappeared in that period. I'm still baffled at the lack of detail textures in so many games. You'd think that'd be especially important in VR titles, but no...
