Salvaging the future.

Forsaken Remastered is now available DRM-free on GOG.COM, 10% off until August 8th, 8am UTC
The cult, futuristic 3D shooter of relentless action returns! Ride your hoverbike and blast the enemy scavengers with a devastating arsenal of primary and secondary weapons and a 360-degree range of freedom. This Remaster features anti-aliasing, ambient occlusion and motion blur effects, a slicker display HUD, unique levels and enemies previously available only in the N64 version, and several other improvements.

GOG.com: This Remaster features [...] motion blur effects
I'll hold off a purchase for now until someone can confirm that I can disable those. This being Night Dive, I'm confident they included an option to disable motion blur, but I want to make sure.
I remember playing Forsaken briefly on the Playstation ages ago. It was frustrating beyond belief so i wouldn't even touch this "remastered" version with a ten foot pole. :D
Honest question, here: is this worth it for the single-player campaign? Because I've been doing some googling on this game, and apparently it's only praised for the multiplayer, which, in all honesty, I don't care much about (I don't have friends interested in video games so that I can play this via split-screen, and I highly doubt the community of people playing this game online will be welcoming to those of us who are coming into the game for the first time).

The single player campaign is apparently kind of crappy, and I don't think Night Dive addressed that, considering the fans of the game never really cared about that in the first place. So, is it as bad as people make it out to be? If I enjoy 6DoF games, can I still find something to like about this game, even if I don't really do multiplayer? Or is the single player part of it as mediocre as I keep reading about, effectively killing all of the enjoyment I might get out of the game?

[disclaimer: even though I don't particularly enjoy multiplayer, myself, I'm not saying GOG shouldn't release multiplayer games; I firmly believe in giving people the games they like, based on their personal preferences, and if that means releasing multiplayer games, then, by all means, do it. But since I don't do multiplayer, myself (unless it's coop in some titles), I'm genuinely trying to find out whether the single player campaign in Forsaken is worth it, because it really seems like it isn't.]
Does the remastered version have a skirmish mode?

Mafwek: Hmm, is this going to be only release for my birthday or is GOG planing something else? Can't wait to find out!

Barry_Woodward: Well they did release this one earlier than usual. Maybe we'll get some releases from a big publisher like 2K with the BioShock trilogy or Ubisoft with the Assassin's Creed II Ezio trilogy.
Bioshock trilogy? There are games games other than Infinite, or you are referring to Burial at Sea Part 1 and 2?

timppu: Each level has a timer, ie. you have to clear the level within a certain time limit, or lose _all_ your remaining lives (ie. instant game over if the timer runs out). So, no time to search the tunnels and try to advance cautiously, just rush rush rush hoping to make it to the end alive.

Guter: Thanks a lot for this posting! I never played the original and wasn't aware of a potentiial problem like this. A time limit is a no buy for me! So I'm interested as well in an answer to that question...
Forsaken has cheat codes. I think perhaps there might be one to nix the timer.
Now all we need are Goldeneye and WWF remasters and this party is lit.
I have only faint memories of playing (and being terrible at) the N64 version. I'll have to give this one a go sooner or later. It's great to see content that was locked to the N64 make its way here.

The Bioshock Trilogy usually means Bioshock 1, 2, and Infinite.
For that price I'd expect more than just a Win7-10 port.
Any plans for a Linux port?
Has anyone at least tried it in WINE?

Just small non malicious trolling from me, I was implying Infinite is only Bioshock game worth a damn. While that kinda is my opinion, of course I support all three games (plus DLC for 2 and Infinite) coming to GOG. I might even finally touch Bioshock 2.
From what I heard there's no LAN and the multiplayer portion is protected by online registration-DRM, which is not a very good thing from a store that claims to sell DRM free software.

Hope that you'll be able to work with the devs to implement LAN, otherwise it's a no buy for me.

It would be great to have the ability to disable texture filtering and to add bots for the multiplayer.

Nice to see Forsaken getting some love from Nightdive; it was one of Probe's best games along with Alien Trilogy on PSX (and to a lesser extent Die Hard Trilogy, also on PSX) and it used to be very popular back then, mainly because of its stunning graphics and lighting effects rather than the actual gameplay (which was also very good). Having said that, i'm not big on the genre anymore so i think i'll just pass for now -- a hefty discount may motivate me to revisit it in the future, even though i'm pretty sure i'll get bored midway and won't get to finish it anyway.
Very happy to see this.
This cover art. Despite never playing the game I remember this cover art plastered in every game store, on every magazine cover/back, and inside many other Acclaim games as an ad flier. It's a terribly nostalgic moment just to see it again. Whelp, it may have taken 20 years, but the "ads" finally got me! Insta-buy!
