The first expansion to Fell Seal: Arbiter’s Mark game is here. Missions and Monsters DLC brings several new additions to enrich the gameplay. You'll now be able to recruit powerful monsters from across the land of Teora, customize them with their own classes, and send them into battle alongside the rest of your forces.

Discount time! Until the 30th of June, 5 PM UTC, Fell Seal: Arbiter's Mark is available on GOG.COM 66% off. Also until 30th June, 5 PM UTC, the bundle consisting of the base game and Missions and Monsters DLC is available on GOG.COM 46% off.
I cannot recommend this game enough if you like tactical RPGs or turn-based strategy games at all. It's a great game.

I've never really gotten into this genre, so I'm curious: Do these games typically have much of any story or are they just mainly focused on the combat side of things?
Was going to use this expansion as an excuse to buy this game, but not a single mention of gog on their socials.
Closer to the latter. This one's dead in the middle -- it does both, but the story does play 2nd fiddle. Final Fantasy Tactics [the usual beacon of the genre] also has spectacular story with it.

They'd mentioned it sporatically; I follow their stuff a bit. They had confirmed we'd get same-day release here on reddit, yadda.

Kiinda disappointed that on Steam they offer a 15% discount on this expansion but not here on GOG. Why do some developers always make GOG customers pay more than on Steam?

I got a discount when I put the DLC in my cart...
"The expansion focuses on enriching and expanding the gameplay and adds new features and options to the game. To get the perfect experience, I would recommend starting a new game, but the DLC will work with any existing file.

The new content will start appearing once you reach Centina and keeps unlocking as the story progresses until the very end of the game. "

and

"DLC content is indeed compatible with current save files however, it is highly recommended to start a 100% fresh file for the DLC content because it affects the game on the whole. I would generally not recommend NG+ because you’d have an already-establishes crew, and one of the main points of the DLC is more options on how to develop your crew. "

and

" 13 "hunt" encounters

6 Special "Large encounter" battles

13 new patrols, with most of these being "large encounter" patrols

87 different send-away missions

22 monster variants alongside18 base monster classes

61 new pieces of equipment "
A few questions:
* Is the game small laptop friendly? In particular, is it comfortable to play the game using only a keyboard, no numeric keypad, and no mouse or gamepad? (I might be able to tolerate limited mouse usage, as long as it's minimal and never in a real-time part of the game.)
* Character growth: Are there random stat gains? How do classes affect stat growth? (In particular, does your class at the time you level up matter long term or not?) Are there ways to increase your stats that don't involve increasing your level? Is there a respec, and is there even any mechanic that would make a respec feature even relevant?
* Can you recruit monsters in the base game, or does that require the DLC? Also, are monsters useful party members or are they lacking compared to humans?
* How is the game balanced? Are there any parts where you suddenly have to fight solo? Are there any unfair missions where you have to keep a character alive, but that character could easily die before you get a chance to do anything? For those familiar with Final Fantasy Tactics, is there any character who's as game breaking as Orlandu, or any ability as powerful as Math Skill?
Grabbed the bundle pack and so far I am enjoying it, only issue was when downloading the files the windows version of the DLC was showing in the Linux tab, switched to Windows then back to Linux and the proper files showed.

dtgreene: * Is the game small laptop friendly?
I played it on a cheap tablet. I used a controller, though. The only time you really absolutely need a mouse is when moving from node to node, since the cursor doesn't auto-center on the node when using the keyboard like it does for the controller. There are no real-time parts to the game.

* Character growth
Your stat growth depends on what class you are when you level up, which is the only way you can increase stats. I haven't paied enough attention to know if they are random, as I don't think their specific value matters all that much. You can "respec" your character, but I can't say off the top of my head if you just restart from level 1 or if you at least retain your XP..

* Can you recruit monsters in the base game, or does that require the DLC? Also, are monsters useful party members or are they lacking compared to humans?
Not really. There is one story character who can acquire monster skills, making him effectively a monster of any type. Monsters sometimes have decent skills, so they can be useful party members. I haven't played the expansion yet, though.

* How is the game balanced?
I won't answer this. The only character you have to keep alive is the main character, as far as I know (and even then, it's a lost bonus rather than game over). That main character only has to participate in most story battles, and in fact it's a good idea to keep the character level low, as it affects encounter levels more than average party level. I don't believe in game-breaking characters. If you think a character is overpowered, just don't use that character, or use that character sparingly.

dtgreene: questions
Small laptop: I played it almost exclusively keyboard with some mouse. The devs have patched more UI things in later after I had played as they tried to ensure parity between the different UI schemes.

Growth: If you've played FFT, growth is like that. I don't think it's random though; it's fixed based on what character you are.

Respec: (story characters, each of which has one unique class) no. Otherwise, just recruit a new character. EDIT: I forgot, you can reset your level (including stat growth) to zero while retaining your class/job experience.

Monsters: I haven't played the DLC yet, obviously, but the existing character that got monster jobs was immensely useful, especially since he could basically be two monsters at once.

Base game: I don't know how it's done with the DLC, but the devs have been very vocal that the DLC is best experienced with a fresh, brand new save. That sounds like it's integrated.

Balance: Quite balanced, but not perfect. But the "generics" each have a set of classes that only they (and NOT story characters) can be, too! There are definitely overpowered combinations available in the game, but nothing stood out as instantly "OMG!" like Orlandu or Balthier.

Difficulty: There were two points when I played through the game the first time where I felt there was a big jump in difficulty (and they were all-party scenarios). I remember seeing them mentioned in patch notes as having been adjusted; I haven't yet replayed.

If note to you [specifically, dtgreene], the game has AWESOME NG+ and difficulty settings; very granular in both, and can be changed at any time. Also, sadly, there is one gender-specific class for each of male and female. And, yes, the female one is typecast as caster and male one as physical. Neither are particularly outstanding or useless though; both have good passives to learn.

That sounds like a *very* nice feature; I can make it challenging in the ways I find fun, and minimize the aspects I don't. (More games should have this sort of difficulty customization.)
