Runaway train never going back.

Fear Equation, a first-person strategy game about managing a fright train, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows and Mac with a 25% launch discount.

There is something unnervingly wrong about the fog that has recently engulfed the world of Fear Equation. It doesn't just make people assume their greatest horrors are hidden within. It actually brings them to life.

A thundering locomotive penetrates this nightmarish barrier - heading towards rumored safety, seeking refuge for its one hundred and fifty forlorn passengers. You are at the helm of that train and your job is to plan the course, manage supplies, and handle all the unexpected occurrences that threaten to derail your mission. Remember: these people are your responsibility but they are not your allies. If you are to keep them safe, you must first keep them out.

Make sure you reach your destination and solve this Fear Equation, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 25% discount will last until January 22, 1:59 PM GMT.

Martek: Fear Equation looks very interesting. Might grab it. Not sure just yet..., but probably..

I enjoyed their Zafehouse: Diaries. Then later.. Dead State came out - and it was, I suppose, more of what I wanted Zafehouse to be.

Now this seems like it may up that concept yet another notch; making it intriguing to me..

It also reminds me somewhat of Signal Ops; which I also liked a lot (and have been meaning to replay again). Might hit some of the same notes..

Just need to find out if it has any of the usual show-stoppers* for me. If not, pretty sure I'll grab it :)

*show stoppers:
** only checkpoint saves
** insists on reporting things back to the cloud
** needs flash or air or java (though it doesn't look like that type of game)
Dead State was awesome :D but i really wished they had made some Dlc Missions for it.

i am definitely going to get Fear Equation just going by the description..but for now its wish-listed.

Not the same people - nor games.

You're thinking of DEADNAUTS by Screwfly - DEAD STATE was by different people.

I appreciate the sentiment - but I was not thinking of Deadnauts. I was thinking of Dead State.

I wasn't limiting to one studio (which appears to be your misread of my post - because I never inferred that [note how I used 'their' for Zafehouse, but not for Dead State, for example) - I was saying - well, exactly what I said - that Dead State turned out to be more or less what I wanted Zafehouse to be. IOW, I liked Dead State in the way I liked Zafehouse - but I liked it more.

But I appreciate your chiming in - in case I had that confusion you refer to :)

Theres no confusion on my part, you stated:

"I enjoyed their Zafehouse: Diaries.. Then later.. Dead State came out - and it was, I suppose, more of what I wanted Zafehouse to be."

That can only be read with one context .

Alright - so you choose the pedantic route. Your loss.

My sentence context is very clear. I said "their" for Zafehouse. PERIOD. Notice the period? END OF SENTENCE. New sentence (after the period), accurately states that Dead State came out later (on GOG, at least). NOWHERE does that NEW SENTENCE indicate I thought it was from the same studio. It says EXACTLY what I meant - that Dead State came out sequentially later. It's your pedantic read that puts "same studio" in my mouth and then argues it.

It's cool tho - because I know from experience - that's how pedants roll.

Cheers

They do not exist.
However I will say, you are only allowed to save and quit at the start of the day. That's for VERY good reason, and you'll realise that when you play the game.
The only internet related stuff I've seen with the game is when you start, you might see a notification saying 'new version available'. It's so silent and light, and there's nothing insistent about it.
This is not a flash game, nor were their previous titles.

I have to disagree with your Dead State > Zafehouse comment, though. I've played, and died plenty of times in Zafehouse; however, I've yet to tire from the game. Dead State can't hold me for more then a few hours, and I just can't find the interest to keep playing it. Just doesn't do it for me.

muntdefems: I had never heard about this game before either, but looking at the screenshots my first thought was "this looks an awful lot like Deadnaut!" :)

pyatak: why there's no linux version?
there were linux demos of "fear equation" during development...
avatar
muntdefems: Apparently, a Linux version is coming eventually.
Nice, on a Steam forum: "I just bought it at GOG (...)"
The response by the developer in that thread seemed honest enough.
A pity they still use DirectX and not the Cross-platform OpenGL.
Unity 5 is based on OpenGL if I'm not mistaken.
Oh well, I have a massive backlog anyway. The concept is quite enticing though.
I might pick it up after the Linux version is eventually released.

GOG.com: Runaway train never going back.
I am a super dork so I apologize for this question. Was the first line of this summary for the game meant to be a reference to a Soul Asylum song? I have to know.

Thanks!
