Runaway train never going back.

Fear Equation, a first-person strategy game about managing a fright train, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows and Mac with a 25% launch discount.

There is something unnervingly wrong about the fog that has recently engulfed the world of Fear Equation. It doesn't just make people assume their greatest horrors are hidden within. It actually brings them to life.

A thundering locomotive penetrates this nightmarish barrier - heading towards rumored safety, seeking refuge for its one hundred and fifty forlorn passengers. You are at the helm of that train and your job is to plan the course, manage supplies, and handle all the unexpected occurrences that threaten to derail your mission. Remember: these people are your responsibility but they are not your allies. If you are to keep them safe, you must first keep them out.

Make sure you reach your destination and solve this Fear Equation, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 25% discount will last until January 22, 1:59 PM GMT.
I'd love a Steam key... wishlisting for now... I've liked other stuff by Screwfly... Looks good
was intrigued until I heard the narrator voice in the trailer. Not really into listening to a valley girl accent for hours.

wait, really? No, there's no voice in the game. At least not in the meat of it... I haven't finished it yet.
edit: I'm not sure why they had someone with that accent. It's an Australian Studio... so what's wrong with using someone with an Australian accent??

a first-person strategy game...

Azhdar: Are there any other FPP startegy games?
Dunno... does Infinifactory count as strategy?

Funnily enough I liked the voice and was a tiny bit disappointed to find out that you don't actually seem to talk in the game (check some let's plays if you want).

So you're safe to get it.
Strategy in first person? What is this working ?

Hesusio: Damn, as someone who's really not a horror fan, this looks really cool. Maybe it's just because I really like trains, but this one is definitely going on my wishlist.
Sheldon is that you?
It seems that Screwfly can make very immersive games. It looks very interesting as a concept but i'll wait for some reviews. It looks a lot like Zafehouse but i hope it's better overall. Anyway, i'll keep it in my wishlist to check it later.

I hope Screwfly obtains somehow the rights of the Alien franchise and present us an Alien strategy game, in the vein of FE:

"A Xenomorph infestation plagues Hadley's Hope colony on LV-426 and you, an engineer, must do your best to make sure the colonists stay alive, until help arrives. Will the USS Sulaco find you alive and sane, or will the story progress like what we saw in the film Aliens?"

..or something like that. :P
Fear Equation looks very interesting. Might grab it. Not sure just yet..., but probably..

I enjoyed their Zafehouse: Diaries. Then later.. Dead State came out - and it was, I suppose, more of what I wanted Zafehouse to be.

Now this seems like it may up that concept yet another notch; making it intriguing to me..

It also reminds me somewhat of Signal Ops; which I also liked a lot (and have been meaning to replay again). Might hit some of the same notes..

Just need to find out if it has any of the usual show-stoppers* for me. If not, pretty sure I'll grab it :)

*show stoppers:
** only checkpoint saves
** insists on reporting things back to the cloud
** needs flash or air or java (though it doesn't look like that type of game)
So a few questions:

*Is it possible to win without interferance from the RNG? Meaning no matter how bad it is we can still win if we strategize?

*Permadeath, general gameplay mechanic?

*can we walk? and can we see our feet?

Honestly this feels a lot like signal ops and that other game set in space with wireframe graphic both which i like but the wireframe one is hard as balls so its a turnoff for me.

also that guy above me post if anybody can answer it as well.

Vythonaut:
Check out Deadnaut. It's... sort of this. Maybe more akin to being a Space Marine exploring a genestealer hulk but it might be close enough to what you're thinking to be worth checking out.

And if you don't mind just being thrown in a bit over your head (though I'm sure you'll figure it out if you put in some time) there's even a demo on Screwfly's site.

Thanks for the recommendation, I checked out Deadnaut the day it was released and I'm going to buy it as soon as I finish my strategy backlog.

Gameplay wise, Deadnaut doesn't look very tense as a game (if it was an Alien licenced game, you would be in the shoes of Gorman from the Aliens film) because you' re sitting behind screens, far away from where the danger is (if I'm not mistaken of course). Fear Equation on the other hand seems to be a lot more tense since from what I can see, you are exactly where the danger is and the horror feeling can add so much to the experience.

Anyway, each game has it's merits and I'll eventually buy them both. :)

Definitely. I'm a sucker for their games XD
