Runaway train never going back.

Fear Equation, a first-person strategy game about managing a fright train, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows and Mac with a 25% launch discount.

There is something unnervingly wrong about the fog that has recently engulfed the world of Fear Equation. It doesn't just make people assume their greatest horrors are hidden within. It actually brings them to life.

A thundering locomotive penetrates this nightmarish barrier - heading towards rumored safety, seeking refuge for its one hundred and fifty forlorn passengers. You are at the helm of that train and your job is to plan the course, manage supplies, and handle all the unexpected occurrences that threaten to derail your mission. Remember: these people are your responsibility but they are not your allies. If you are to keep them safe, you must first keep them out.

Make sure you reach your destination and solve this Fear Equation, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 25% discount will last until January 22, 1:59 PM GMT.

micktiegs_8: Well, I tried to write a review but failed miserably. There's just not enough space to do so. I really like the game, but I'm a fan of their early games which helps too. I've had the game for about a week now, so I guess I could answer some questions.

Navagon: Okay then... it does seem to be really in depth. Is it a really difficult game to get the hang of?
I wouldn't say it takes long to figure out the game's elements. But, you'll most likely fail your first run. Managing relations between passengers, making sure they have food, making sure the train has fuel... it's quite the juggle.
You'll also have to plan ahead when plotting your train's destinations, because back tracking is a bad idea.

So I guess at first it may seem like you're overwhelmed with information. But it takes about an hour or two to see that it's not that bad. The problem is, if you make a bad decision somewhere the tables can turn on you. For me, I have about 30 people who have little to no food, because I was trying to satisfy one of my carriages concerns (they want more people saved). I'm just about to hit a restaurant in the hopes that I can scavenge some. My fuel is also low, however there is a gas station in the same town. I need to do things quickly or the fog will get too thick and I won't have enough time to scavenge what I need, because people tend to disappear in the fog.

Licurg: Well, it only came out a month or so ago...

ShadowWulfe: Any idea what the delay for coming out here day one was?
From the dev's site, it seems you could buy the game only from their own store until yesterday, the 15th, when it officially became available on GOG and Steam. I don't know why they did that, or if I read thing wrong, but that's what it says.

I'd say the devs wanted to give it a few fixes first. Steam didn't have it day one either.
edit: a few fixes to feel comfortable maybe...just a guess.

Licurg:
That makes me feel better knowing it's not on GOG's side or a proSteam thing. On the flip side, I'm still waiting for GOG to stop dragging their are and release the Quest here.

It does look difficult to get adequate fuel given that a seemingly modest journey can use up most of it. Anyway, good luck!

Niggles: thought you were on a game buying embargo temporarily ;)
I am, and I decided to keep this on the wishlist for now. Apart from big savings, like some of the weekend promo, I'm trying very hard not to buy any game unless I'm going to play it right away. :)

I'm in a similar situation, but in my case I can't purchase as many games I'd like because of the regional pricing the store has. I can purchase only in US dollars and that's really expensive to me because the mexican peso has been plummeting for a while.

Steam accepts my currency and has affordable regional pricing, I hope gog can do the same someday instead of having to buy everything on USD.
When I saw "a first-person strategy game about managing a fright train".
I thought it's F.E.A.R.: Equation
Got disappointed.
Zafehouse: Diaries isn't a good game. Despite interesting-sounding concepts, I'm not willing to chance Deadnaut or Fear Equation without a significant discount.

Matruchus: Ok, this kind of slipped under my radar. Hm, have to research it a bit.

Edit: Ah, a game from devs of Zafehouse Diaries and Deadnaut. Should be interesting.
Had a feeling it seemed familiar to some games, so Zafhouse Diaries and Deadnaut combined in concept and style from the screenshots and description. You saved me looking up the developer :)

I'll wishlist this until later. My wallet hurts.

Charon121: I like the survival concept. Might check this one out.
Same. I'm going to wait until my next paycheck and then decide. This game looks promising.
:^(

Thought this would be a sequel to the FEAR games.
a first-person strategy game...
Are there any other FPP startegy games?
I saw the trailer this morning on my youtube feed and instantly recognized the style of the authors of Zafehouse Diaries ^o^

Whishlisted
Well, since GOG doesn't let devs give out GOG keys for some reason (buy it here, NO FREEBIES!)... does anyone want my Steam key?
