tfishell: Great to see it here! I understand removing multiplayer features that require Steamworks, but why was LAN removed? That shouldn't require Steamworks, right?
I bet there is some Steam library for LAN play that locks the game to Steam even without an internetconnection.
But yeah, it should only require Direct Connect if done properly.
Don't know why so many devstudios butcher their games and remove LAN play.
Amazing game and a great addition to the GOG catalogue!
I had this on Steam for years from some bundle or giveaway and never even looked at thinking it's some crap. While actually looks interesting as I love Deus Ex-like games even if it's closer to Invisible War than original.
Purchased, I wanted ro play this for a long time but it was bounded with Steam only and that is a bad thing.
Nice to see it here! Too bad about the missing multiplayer, but I appreciate that they try to remedy that by making the base price roughly 2 bucks cheaper than the Steam version.

To anyone in the know: How crucial is multiplayer to the overall experience? Is it a main selling point, is it a nice-to-have feature or is it just superfluous fluff that nobody ever used anyway?
This game... I have seen some footage of it. "Insanity" doesn't do it justice! XD
Definitely want.
Oh wow this ia a surprise!
"Psychological and mental trauma management. "

... fun?

As it's got the Deus Ex vibe, this game is very much a shooter first and foremost. Damn fun one at that, but a shooter.
Stealth only works if you're cloaked, because the AI isn't exactly programmed for a stealth game. And then there are levels where you're mowing down hordes of Metastreumonic force demons, where you're thinking "why didn't they just make a Space Hulk game?" (Which is what they made next, lol)

I adore this game, and it's got a few levels that channel classic cyberpunk (Electric Sheep in particular is great for role-playing the stairway Matrix scene), but it's most definitely NOT a Deus-ex like. Just be aware of that.

The first time you get hacked by a door tends to be a traumatic experience.

Alexim: Interesting, but they could have at least put the achievements, with all the things they have removed this seems more like E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy - Castrated Edition.
Agreed 100%. No way I'd buy a feature-removed game that treats GOG customers like second-class citizens.

And what is "Single-player edition" supposed to mean? Is that PR speak to spin-doctor the fact that this game has multiplayer on other platforms, but it was also removed from the GOG version? If so, then that's a horrible detriment, not a "benefit" to people who buy this product.

Because they are short on time so they leverage the multiplayer libraries provided by the stores and the stores' multiplayers libraries are a lock-in fest.

What we really need is a store-agnostic multiplayer framework that works on all stores + LAN.

Probably just that they used some Steam libraries that locked them in with Steam.

Its 50% the devs and 50% the lousy state of the multiplayer ecosystem in gaming right now where devs lack quality vendor-neutral tooling to truly implement cross platform + LAN / self-hosted multiplayer.

With the controversy of Hitman still fresh in everyone's minds, The fact GOG first and foremost highlighted this removed feature:

"The version of the game sold on GOG is a single-player only edition – it means online and LAN modes are not accessible."

As someone said earlier that multiplayer was a Steamworks feature and the lack of LAN mode is being questioned. I am sure GOG is being cautious and just stripping everything "online" related out of the game to avoid ticking off fans. Surprised that LAN is not present, but knowing nothing of the game, was LAN multiplayer something that required Steamworks as well? I think back to when GOG released Diablo they specified that the DRM free version only supported LAN, the other required Battle.net.

My concern is GOG will now be overly cautious releasing anything that in some way has "Online" components, in fear that someone will scream about it having DRM and causing another PR nightmare.

This game seems to have its fans. :)

Ed. Note: My question MAY have already been answered by the posters above ^^^^^ ;-)

I'm not convinced it is the case, but if it was, good.

Until those online components can be implemented in such a way that they don't poach on offline and/or self-hosted functionality (and I include multiplayer in this), I want as few of them as humanly possible.

It's a interesting game but I always had 10X more fun in mp, even more so with some modded rules and adjustments

It's a cool little game, just don't pay attention to their bizarre social media post saying ''Test your reaction skills'' it's not even close to a twitch shooter, you'll get your arse handed to you by jump straight into combat if your build isn't exact for combat.
