WinterSnowfall: Damnation, this is like the best news of the year, topping the release of DRM-free Skyrim, and of courseeeeee there's not even an update flag for it. Sheesh, GOG!
I only was aware of it after reading the info posts here, I had to force the update myself, It didn't triggered as use to happen in other updates. Weird

Game is now called "Emperor of the Fading Suns Enhanced" and has some big 1.5 update, list of changes:

Also, now in library there is installer of the "updated" version and (in bonus section) installer with the "classic" version of the game.
Thanks for commenting on the thread and bumping it up.

Swedrami: Run it directly through the Emperor of the Fading Suns .exe instead of going the unnecessary and utterly pointless detour via any client software?
Yes. Exactly as the GOG version allows. Instead of "that other store" :)

viperfdl: Interesting. I was interested in the game before but was also put off by some negative comments. Have to take a look into it.
Do you remember what those negative comments said?

As for the one at the beginning of this thread, apparently the fellow is on a campaign against all games that have any non-deterministic elements in them.

Ro make it clear: Fading Suns does not have modern graphics, but it allows the player to do things that cannot be done in any other videogame.

Mostly that the game is buggy, that some features didn't work as intended, that kind of thing.

Well, about bugs, none that prevented playing. It never hung up on me nor got any savegame corrupted. Also, there were mods, teo major ones IIRC. They corrected things, oned changed more than the other.

In any case, this late patch ought to solve many issues, maybevall of them ;) I will check the list and give this a try.

Also, did you notice how a paid dlc came out for Master of Magic? There seems to be a thrend here.

The biggest obstacle for enjoying this game might be the very large scope: action of different kinds on several planets, and their number only increases. The game gives some strong vibes of Dune, but also other sources such as Starship Troopers (the novel especially), Star Wars, and so on. Just like the original pen and paper RPG.

Yeah, it looks a bit overwhelming.

That and the nice cover picture make me actually interested in the game.

Happy I could share this info :)

I was really eager to finally try Emperor of a Fading Suns and play a bit more (even printed entire manual to have some good start, as the game seemed to be quite complex), seems like now it will be even better opportunity to finally start playing it :)

A real shame though that GOG did not announce this fact in visible way. Yes, I know it's now showing on this sliding banner with highlights, but still - even a small news would be appreciated.

Developer has got back to his game made more than two decades ago and prepared a solid update for it. It's really great and rare.
