Conquering the upside down.

Dungeons 3 is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com.
Return to the dungeon management saga to rule your underground kingdom alongside the dark elf priestess Thayla, then wage war against the surface lands with an army of despicable, smelly, occasionally unruly creatures. This entry introduces randomly generated levels for the first time in the series, for more unpredictable, chaotically evil fun.

Let's pop this in the forum for those looking forward to it.
I am curious as to how this improves upon Dungeons 2.

I found the previous Dungeons game to get tedious and repetitive due to its extremely limited population cap and how long and winding most of the overworld areas were. You'd have already won for all intents and purposes, but since you were pop capped it would still take you another hour for you to clean up every last pocket of resistance, and if you didn't like save scumming you had to play conservatively to ensure you could always respond if a big wave blindsided you. The mechanics of the dungeon itself were vibrant and interesting, but with no enemy AI to speak of (just waves of enemies) the game itself felt shallow. The expansions didn't address these issues, so I'm mindful of jumping into the sequel sight unseen. However, if the prognosis for Dungeons 3 is good I may very well give it a shot.

It's amazing how GOG still can't put out a new release properly, let me elaborate.

This game has been advertised as Windows + Mac through the whole pre-order time and there was a free copy of Dungeons 2 for those who pre-ordered, now that it's released it's shown as Windows / Mac / Linux. One would almost instantly say "Hey you got the Linux version which is not blocked due to Galaxy for once so what the hell are you complaining about?", which is not a bad thing after the many missed Linux releases due to Galaxy.

So what I'm trying to say here is, that thanks to GOG's horrible lack of communication with their community, those on Linux who wished to pre-order but didn't (since there was no Linux icon during pre order), missed on the bonus. Meanwhile Windows and Mac users had nothing to worry about.

Yet again another game I was looking for which now I will never buy because of GOG's poor communication.

Edit: For the record, by "Yet again another game" I was referring to Tyranny. Following the DLC disaster Pillars of Eternity STILL is, I had asked GOG if Tyranny will have upgrade paths instead of having to buy the game anew, GOG gave no reply to that, the game got released, the upgrade paths also came shortly after but it was too late by then, the pre-order items were gone and that's when I forever refused to buy the game.

Anyone knows how coop works in this one? Online? Do you need Galaxy?

What? Tyranny doesn't have upgrade paths, it's become sort of a running joke at this point:
copy: "the world of Tiers..."
forum: "oh yeah, those tiers no one can upgrade to"

My mistake I thought they did, I checked the Steam page and upgrade paths are available there. Looks like I won't be buying games made by Obsidian until this trend goes on.

I sympathize. I missed the soundtrack for Sundered, and lo and behold, it's available on Steam, too.

The shitty part is I'd have preordered it if I knew. I get it that GOG doesn't want to emphasize apparent preorder exclusives, but customers lose out either way and yet another time when GOG doesn't bring the former exclusives here. Seriously what.

I didn't buy that because I wanted to check the reviews first, since their other game - Jotun was almost labeled as a 'walking simulator'. I like having a complete thing about the game, Game soundtracks might not appeal to everyone but I tend to listen to some of them occasionally.

It seems I'll have to cut another game from my shopping list.

Boohoo, cry me a river.

Honestly, if you refuse to buy games because pre-order bonuses aren't available for lInux, when any smart gamer should know never to pre-order games anyway, you have a problem imo.
Not to mention that you should be used to Linux gamers being treated as second class citizens by now, it's not exactly a new thing.

That being said, how is the game itself, if anyone's actually bought it? I didn't like the first one, is this any better?

Since when is novelty a requirement for criticism?
I'm glad to see a game by Kalypso getting Linux release on GOG!

Hardly crying, I'm just pointing out how lack of communication can easily lose a sale. All GOG had to do was leave a small line mentioning whether the Linux version would be available or not. Many games from Kalypso aren't available on Linux so I wasn't going to take any chances.

I'm well aware how some companies treat Linux users, it is not something that "I have to be used to", but rather a thing they have to stop doing.
Ah, what a dillema. The price is high (at least for my wallet), but I so much like this series (to be more specific, second part, because I've never played in first one)...

Oh well, I think that I'll wait a bit until it will have some bigger discount and then grab it immediately.

The problem is, they only have to stop doing it if it Linux gamers stop being such a small minority that they don't matter in terms of profit. Personally, I prefer Linux to Windows, I use it for work, but since I don't like using Wine, I decided I had to use Windows for games. Unless Microsoft does something stupid enough to lose their stranglehold on the PC gaming market, I don't see anything changing in the foreseeable future.

And my point is that Linux gamers have always been treated like second-class citizens so you knew what you were getting into when you became one. You can't exactly be surprised when it keeps happening. Instead of criticizing GOG for its "lack of communication", maybe you should consider praising the developer for actually providing a Linux version this time.
