This time, you're playing for keeps.

Dungeons 2, an ode to a classic with a brand new twist, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The game comes complete with GOG Galaxy Support for Achievements, and a 50% launch discount.

The Ultimate Evil, the Dungeon Lord is back, with a burning vengeance and malice. Dungeons 2 is an homage to the classic Dungeon Keeper games, but it also introduces its own twists and interesting improvements, all to strike just about the ideal balance between the new and the classic. Fans of the original dungeon keeping experiences are sure to find plenty of familiar joy here, while stumbling upon things that are new, fun, or just plain better. In Dungeons 2 you'll not only create your own dungeon of doom & gloom, but also expand into the foreign outerworld to take the fight straight to your enemies.
Narrated by Kevan Brighting (the star of the Stanley Parable) Dungeons 2 is a game that puts fun and whimsy first - in a true, classic spirit.

There's a treasure buried deep in the lairs of ancient dragons, nasty, devious creatures bent on taking over the world. Fight fire with fire, and unleash your evil upon the dragon invasion. But first, you'll have to pick up Dungeons 2: A Chance of Dragons, the hefty add-on with over 10 hours of gameplay, all-new enemies and fiery challenges.

Keep up with Dungeons 2 available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. The launch discount will last for four days, until Sunday, September 13, 1:59 PM GMT.

Stream watch:

Tune in to Twitch.tv/GOGcom and see this Dungeon Keeper homage in action with MegapiemanPHD - his stream goes live on Thursday, September 10th, at 4pm GMT (that's 6pm CEST, 12pm EDT, or 9am PDT)!

Ganni1987: Another game without the Linux version, GOG could at least give a reason why this is yet again missing.
+1
And failing that, will there be a dev Q&A like with some other recent releases, so we can ask them directly?
Once I tried a demo of the first part expecting something similar to Dungeon Keeper but then played something completely different. For me it was boring. Is this second part any different to the first?
I haven't really kept up to date with the status of WftO, and I'm disappointed to hear here that things are apparently looking so bleak for a DRM-free supported version. I backed the game yonks ago, enough for a digital copy, hoping it'd hit DRM-free eventually (since I recall an option being promised), and now I partly wish I'd just watched and waited, as I do with most Kickstarter games, because it feels like they can often disappoint.

I really wish so many developers weren't so married to Steam.

It's so easy to be talked into how much support and funding is needed when starting out, but it seems like things turn pretty sour fast once the money has exchanged hands. Call it a bias if you will; maybe I'm just lucky to not be a developer trying to get support this way.
Dungeons /= Dungeon Keeper

These two games are similar in grand idea, but very different in execution. I'm one of the seemingly few people who enjoyed both of them for different reasons. War for the Overworld is a very good spiritual successor to Dungeon Keeper gameplay IMO and I'd like to see it here at GOG.com at some point.

I'm looking forward to playing Dungeons II, though it reminds me I need to go back and finish the first one which I know is in my backlog somewhere...

Crosmando: What was Dungeons 1 like?
Dungeons 1 has a lot less management of your minions and much more designing rooms and spaces. In my opinion the core gameplay to Dungeons was more like a dungeon themed zoo tycoon, figuring out the right size, items and decorations/style to maximize their effectiveness and what they would do for your minions. Though there is a good bit of puzzle solving/exploration to be done which just has a different flavor than that of DK.

The story and humor of Dungeons 1 was enjoyable to me, though again vastly different than that of DK.

I personally don't know why it got such horrible reviews, except for possibly that all those people were looking for a Dungeon Keeper III and didn't get what they wanted in Dungeons 1.

This has been happening way to often lately. If a game has Windows, Mac and Linux versions available, then all three should be here also. If it's simply a matter of GOG needing more time to get it packaged properly, then just say so. Let us know if the Linux release is being worked on or not. I would have jumped on this sale if it was released, or it was clearly stated it's on the way. Now it may or may not show up, and if it does it will probably not be on sale any more, which still means no sale for me.

I'm not sure why releasing for Ubuntu seems so much harder than releasing for Mac.

That's nearly a pleonasm. ;)
good dungeon keeper clone. good to see it on gog (after I saw it on mac app store), for mac too... but strange thing there isn't linux version (on steam there is).

I'm still disappointed by GOG for the Metro Redux series, can't speak for 2033 but they do have access to the Linux version of Last Light but haven't released it because of some 'technical issues' and YET, there are youtube videos all over the place of the game natively running fine on the OS.

Another thing that pisses me off is that GOG isn't even keeping Linux users in check these days, it's always up to the community to ask the fabled question "Where's the Linux version?", they're a game distributor and should know on what platforms a game is out on. In the case of Dungeons 2, there isn't even a microscopic sign that a Linux version even exists.

Same thing with Crypt of the Necrodancer last month, no sign or note about the how and why the Linux version wasn't on release day. While the dev clearly stated the reasons and GOG wasn't at fault, it should still have been very nice to let everyone know. At least this one made it here.

In case any GOG reps read this then please know: Linux gamers are in the minority in the gaming world and as such one, I understand that and I would very much appreciate that you state the reason why a game's Linux version isn't released here.

Unfortunately I couldn't fit "More Linux games and less games that require online accounts for multiplayer" in that space.

catpower1980: From the screenshots, it really looks generic as hell in a LOL way.... :(
Agreed. Not ultra excited about this one, but I can understand why GOG might have picked it up.

Klumpen0815: Wait, is this what became of "War for the overworld" or is it something else? Is there a "Dungeons 1"?
avatar
Matruchus: War of the Overworld is an indie game that was made in the likes of Dungeon Keeper and is only available on Steam for now since it depends a lot on steam api and the drm-free version will be only available for people who buy directly from the dev store (as a free bonus) since its going to be a downstripped version of the game - again cause of high steam integration). Dungeons II (Kalypso game) is kind of a mix of Dungeon Keeper with RTS elements with the battles in the overworld (looks like Warcraft 3 that part of the game).

Eitherway nice to see Dungeons 2 here. Wishlisted.
It seems that the DRM-free version of War for the Overworld is available on Humble Bundle.

EDIT: Another version with bonuses is available too:
War for the Overworld Underlord Edition

viperfdl: snip
I've read that the second one is far better than the first Dungeons game.

An attempt to mix Dungeon Keeper with Theme Park. It came out as weird and odd as it sounds like - though not in a good way.

I've seen some benchmarks that suggested that Metro Redux runs better on Linux than on Windows.

I meant, that games without a Linux port are not really DRM-free, since you need a DRMed system in order to play them.
