htown1980: I don't really understand why you say gog is steam. For me the key is DRM, I hope to never be forced to buy something that is subject to DRM or requires me to be online and gog allows me to do that. I've never used gog galaxy so I haven't notice any change over the years (admittedly I have only been here since 2011 so maybe it was different before then).
In what way is gog steam?
nightcraw1er.488: Have you not read a single thing on here over the last two years?
I haven't been very active on this forum in the last few years, so its probably not accurate to say I haven't read a single thing on here over the last two years, but I also haven't been steeped in this forum.
nightcraw1er.488: Or in fact read any of the posts I presented above?
I am not sure what you mean by "the posts presented above". I don't know what posts you have "presented".
You posted something about how this game was available on steam with some other games for $1. Then you posted this comment about steam that I replied to (post 25). At post 40 you said that gog want to be steam (which I note is very different from saying gog is steam - in fact it necessarily follows that if gog wants to be steam, it cannot already be steam, as then gog would be wanting to be something that it already is - which doesn't make a lot of sense).
My question enquiring about the ways in which gog is steam is post 88.
So, firstly, as there is only one post between your post 25 and my post 88 posing a question, there are no "posts", secondly, I don't see what is in your post 40 which would enlighten me about how gog is steam (which as I said above implies that gog cannot be steam).
nightcraw1er.488: The only thing that gog does not as yet have is an optional ceg component. I say optional as there are lots of games on steam which are drm free, i.e. Do not have the ceg component, like this title.
So this doesn't really answer my question, I am asking you for the ways that gog and steam are similar, you are responding by giving me an example of the ways that gog and steam are different.
I have never really used steam so I cannot speak about the similarities but I know that the 300+ games I have on gog are all DRM free and I don't need an internet connection to play any of them and I can play them on any computer I like, whether it is mine or not and whether I have logged into my gog account on that computer or not. As I understand it, there are a lot of games on steam that are not DRM free and do need an internet connection to play. That seems to me to be quite a fundamental difference. I also like that I don't need a client to download or install any games - I think steam uses a client for downloads (but again I am not sure).
Its unclear to me why you say they are the same. You obviously don't have to answer my question, and it is clear from your terse response that you are quite defensive about the question, but I think it would be instructive to know what fundamental aspects of gog and steam you think are the same so I can at least work out for myself whether you are a rational person or not.
nightcraw1er.488: As for required online, try playing Gwent, absolver, etc. Offline.
I haven't played Gwent or Absolver and don't have any interest in them. Aren't they multiplayer games? I don't play multiplayer games. Isn't it fairly obvious that they would be online then? Do people play card games on LAN or something?
nightcraw1er.488: It's been made clear at each and every juncture that if steam does it, then gog will do it, client, regional pricing, profiles etc. Hence gog=steam which is exactly what they want, to be competing at that level.
I haven't used gog's client. And I have never felt any desire to do so. Is steam's client also optional? Like I can go to the steam website and buy and download and play their games without a client? Do you think gog and steam are the same because they both have optional clients?
I don't know if I have a profile, I mean I have a profile in this forum, but that's just a website, that isn't linked to the games at all. And I have had my forum profile since 2011. What do you mean by profile? And is it that both gog and steam have the option for users to make forum profiles that makes you say they are the same?
I understand they both have regional pricing, but, as I live in a rich country, I don't expect people living in poorer countries to pay the same as me. That doesn't bother me, but I appreciate it may bother some.
nightcraw1er.488: Perhaps with cyberpunk they will release their optional geg component that provides user security in knowing they have an acurate non-pirated copy. I assume all the gog defenders posting here will be voraciously defending such a thing as online with modern gaming and a benefit to all of us.
I know what a ceg component is, but what is a geg component?
