Hello darkness, my old friend.

<span class="bold">Downfall: Redux</span>, the bold reimagining of the twisted horror adventure game, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount. Buyers will also get the original Downfall for free.

Sustaining a healthy marriage through the years can be an uphill battle. Joe and Ivy thought they could pull it off but now the cracks are beginning to show. Joe books them a romantic getaway to the Quiet Haven Hotel, convinced that they can still fix this. But his wife is behaving strangely, as though she doesn't even want them to try. And this place.. The Quiet Haven Hotel is not at all how Joe had imagined it. Or perhaps it is exactly like that.

Downfall: Redux is a completely overhauled retelling of Joe Davis' bloody, desperate struggle to win back his wife. Like in the haunting The Cat Lady, the adult themes, the grotesque images, and the macabre story will stay with you long after your visit at the Quiet Haven Hotel has come to its disturbing end. And as with every gripping nightmare, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

Dive into the abyss and swim alongside your most unspeakable nightmares as you descent into <span class="bold">Downfall: Redux</span>, DRM-free on GOG.com. Everyone who buys the game will also receive Downfall(2009) for free. Those who already own the original will find a 50% discount code for Downfall: Redux in their library. The code will be added to Downfall(2009) in your shelf and can be redeemed until March 15.
The 10% discount will also last until March 15, 4:59 PM GMT.
So... where in my library is the code?
When does it expire?

Click on the original Downfall and you'll see it just below the installer links :)

Dalthnock: That's it, I'm drawing the line here on this latest fad.

And what's more, I was beginning to purchase new games, but now that's over.

I will just wait until the game is really, really old to make sure there are no "redux" or "definitive" or whatever else.

I guess supporting developers is a mug's game? You give them an inch, they'll ravage your wallet.

Pity it was an apparently independent developer that broke the camel's back for me, but I refuse to support this ridiculous concept any more.

I'm tired of being dick-slapped in the face. Paying for patches is just retarded.
Wait really?
This seems really different to the original. More of a remake than an extended edition or whatever.
What's wrong with remakes?

Feb 11 2026. You got 11 years to make up your mind :P

EDIT: correction, the codes have been set to expire on March 15th 2016. Sorry for the confusion, everyone!

huppumies: I really liked the dark atmosphere of Downfall, but not sure if getting this one. Anyway, nice release.
Quite shocking, isn't it?
I got this one and I'm amazed that they changed a ton of things, and it looks that it's for the best (I mean, "dirty diapers" best).
Hopefully, that original atmosphere is still out there!

Thought it would expire in March 15..
I bet that some """brave""" dudes will buy this one and won't play it in 11 years.. you know, they're so brave ;D

Maxvorstadt: Why does this game require a Quadcore CPU? Looks like it would run on a Pentium with 233 MHz.
For what it's worth the demo ran perfectly on my Toshiba Satellite with an i3-3120 CPU @ 2.50GHz

Also everybody there is a demo on the publisher's website, www.screen7.co.uk

Honestly? I loved Downfall (the original) and The Cat Lady but the demo kinda cooled my interest in the remake just a bit. There seems to be some new content in the remake but the voice acting is kinda bad (compared to the great voice acting in The Cat Lady) and the character models and art in general seems a step back below Downfall and The Cat Lady. I mean I'll still get this, I'm just a lot less PUMPED than I was.

Dawn of the Dead 2004 is no patch of Dawn of the Dead 1978...
Gabriel Knight 20th Anniverary is no patch for Gabriel Knight
Settlers 2 10th Anniversary is no patch for Settlers 2.

The developer re-made his own game from scratch, to create a (in his perception) better version of it. Now he kindly asks money for his work. He and GOG are even so kind as to ask only half of the price if you own the original. So you pay what? In Germany the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes and a beer. And nobody forces you to buy that remake.

I don't get how people can get that aggravated about things like this.
Man, all this time I thought that a Downfall redux was one of those parody videos featuring Hitler...

Regarding the game though, really interesting feel to it! The brief description in the game card makes me think of Alan Wake, but I guess making it more specific would just spoil plot points of the game. =P Admittedly only wishlisted at the moment; it wouldn't be prudent for me to buy many more games given the current state of my backlog.

The OP said March 15, but omitted the year...
I've just used the code but didn't check the expiry date, sorry.
Thanks, I waited for this Redux version :) And thanks for the 50% off.
Instabought.
Regardless of who is or isn't getting a good deal here, is the game itself any good? Seems like it's supposed to be along the lines of Silent Hill 2 except in 2D, presumably minus the ( mostly annoying ) combat? I read something about keyboard controls -- does that mean you can't just play it with the mouse, like a conventional P&C Adventure game?

Russonc: looks familiar... I need to research a bit as this looks like something I would like (cool style of artwork)...

That's what I did, and I was thoroughly disappointed. ;)

Different discount :P That's the one for people who have never bought the original Downfall :)
Can we get some more details as to what exactly has changed? I'm not really a fan of Reduxes or Remasters or Re-imaginings because I view things like this as artistic creations and the creators should go into their creating making it how they want to make it in the first place. Years later deciding to "George Lucas" something, is not cool, imo.

Pretty much the only things said about the changes are:

"the bold reimagining" and "a completely overhauled retelling"

and that doesn't actually tell us a single frikken thing about what's changed, ya know?!

Ugh.
