Hello darkness, my old friend.

<span class="bold">Downfall: Redux</span>, the bold reimagining of the twisted horror adventure game, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount. Buyers will also get the original Downfall for free.

Sustaining a healthy marriage through the years can be an uphill battle. Joe and Ivy thought they could pull it off but now the cracks are beginning to show. Joe books them a romantic getaway to the Quiet Haven Hotel, convinced that they can still fix this. But his wife is behaving strangely, as though she doesn't even want them to try. And this place.. The Quiet Haven Hotel is not at all how Joe had imagined it. Or perhaps it is exactly like that.

Downfall: Redux is a completely overhauled retelling of Joe Davis' bloody, desperate struggle to win back his wife. Like in the haunting The Cat Lady, the adult themes, the grotesque images, and the macabre story will stay with you long after your visit at the Quiet Haven Hotel has come to its disturbing end. And as with every gripping nightmare, you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.

Dive into the abyss and swim alongside your most unspeakable nightmares as you descent into <span class="bold">Downfall: Redux</span>, DRM-free on GOG.com. Everyone who buys the game will also receive Downfall(2009) for free. Those who already own the original will find a 50% discount code for Downfall: Redux in their library. The code will be added to Downfall(2009) in your shelf and can be redeemed until March 15.
The 10% discount will also last until March 15, 4:59 PM GMT.

mrkgnao: I was half-sarcastic. Of course it's normal GOG procedure, which I nevertheless don't understand despite repeated attempts.

Still I find it in poor taste to remove a game that costs $5 and comes with a soundtrack and a wallpaper and replace it with a pair of games that cost together $14 and come with neither, and not leave the option to buy only the original.

[...]
avatar
HypersomniacLive: So was I. We need to do something about that, me thinks.

Can anyone who did not own the original from before clarify if the original comes with any of the extras it had or if it's just the game installer?
If the latter it's way beyond poor taste, imho.

avatar
mrkgnao: [...]

In that case, I really fail to understand why they couldn't have made it free here too.
avatar
HypersomniacLive: And puzzled you shall remain.
It comes with the original extras.
avatar
mrkgnao: If someone WHO DID NOT OWN THE ORIGINAL ON GOG buys this, do let me know because I want to find out:

1) Does the original come for you as a bonus in the Redux's box or as a box by itself?
2) Does the original come for you with the soundtrack and wallpaper or not?
avatar
JudasIscariot: 1. Separate box on your shelf for the original.
2. Yes, it comes with the original goodies it came with.
Super. Thanks.
You might want to add "original soundtrack" and "original wallpaper" to the game page's bonuses.
Edit: Mistake, sorry.

Gotta learn to read, one of these days.

I didn't have a chance to do so today (very busy Monday) but I'll add them tomorrow, thanks! :)

foxworks: Wiki updated :D
Edit: I don't see it on the wiki page after updating *chin stroke*

mrkgnao: Perhaps the legacy shelf display has some issue, because toxicTom also uploaded his library and his game is visible (but he uses the new shelf format, not the legacy).
It is because of the legacy shelf. Because that is based on saved data from before the account redesign mess. If you want to update the wiki shelf you need to use the normal design.

Dalthnock: I could tell you, but I feel I've milked this for all it's worth, already. Besides, you know the answer. :D

Actually, *that* is my sense of humour & it took me quite a while to come up with a post that didn't read as an attack on you, because not only that wasn't my intention, I wasn't sure if you're used to more aggressive, offensive humour.

Don't worry, nothing you have said has so much as ruffled me in the slightest.

It'd be damn near impossible for me to get angry at a regular poster.
Ok, I have to believe you, if you say it. But please believe that reading
Was this a potshot from a German to a Portuguese? The lords of Europe are sneering at the "lazy southern countries"?
as a joke and not being intendedly offensive is really... trying.

But we are taking this offttopic. You can open a separate thread for discussions like this if you want to continue. If it drops off my radar, point me to it in chat. :-)

mrkgnao: *snip*
out of curiosity, I downloaded the now Freeware Version of Downfall (2009) from the dev's page (http://www.quiethavenhotel.co.uk/) and it does indeed come with the complete sountrack (21 tracks in ogg though not mp3 as on gog - also it says version 1.4 and gog says 2.0 but I don't know if there's even a difference) haven't seen a wallpaper bundled though ;)

Ours is also 1.4 and should be displayed as such in your library now :)

mchack: But, this isn't the issue here, is it? While you guys talk about the game, I've been researching english toilet talk. And now I have "questions":
Don't go in there! <- Is that acceptable as an command not to enter the room, or does it really just imply one should hold out, until he finds a more suitable place (or rather any other place) before "shaking the dew off the lily"?

Quite fascinating really: Looking in the imdb I found not one but two movies called "Don't go in the Woods" and while they are both horror flicks, I really can't discern from the Synopsis, whether all the dying starts after someone relieved himself near a tree or simply on entering the wrong forest.. ;)

So is go in or into a place, really that big a difference?
LOL
What an interesting derail. =)
If you just said "Don't go in there!" without any context, people would assume you meant "Don't enter [whatever place was being referred to]!" I imagine the thing with "go" meaning "urinate and/or defecate" comes from people being too circumspect to even say "go to the bathroom", "go potty", or whatever other euphemism you care to think of, so they just trail off: "I have to go..." "But we just got here!" "No, I have to go...."
Needless to say, this can be confusing (or amusing) even if your first language is English. ; )

Also, no native speaker would say "Don't go into there!" It would be either "Don't go in there!", or "Don't go into (that house, the woods, bankruptcy...whatever)!" : )

Thanks for clearing that up. I won't go in(to) it any more then... ;)

Ah, that first part didn't need clarification, really . ;-)
The graphics quality of the game has been improved, which is a good thing. But does this justify to triple the price from $5 to $15?

No language or operating system support has been added. Even worse the minimum system requirements have been increased by a lot. Quad core processor in such a game, what for?

That was it! I do love my legacy shelf ;-)
