Gudadantza: Requirements are a bit high, ain't them?

idbeholdME: Doom stuff? Where's Doom 3 + RoE? Come on, stop teasing already.

Doom 3 + RoE ≠ Doom 3 BFG edition, as already explained. BFG edition is the watered down version for casuals, originally a console release. Downgrade in most respects imo.
Not the Doom I was looking forward to.
Now I hope this other lost FPS game from the N64 gets the PC re-release.

Gudadantza: Anybody knows if this official port can be used to run the game with the DOOM 64 EX pc port? I guess it will be lighter, less accurate though
Yes, you can run this version in the old EX port. It requires a converter as detailed here:

how?

idbeholdME: That's Doom 3: BFG Edition. Which changed a ton of things and usually for the worse from the original.

It still is listed separately on Steam for example.

Just the most notable offenders:
1) Most levels have been brightened up, completely killing the atmoshpere.
2) Flashlight can now be active along with a weapon, killing the dynamic of trading visibility for a ready weapon.
3) A lot of ammo has been added throughout the levels, killing any potential resource scarcity.

They basically transformed an atmospheric horror shooter into a generic action shooter.
How is the flashlight being active along with weapons a bad thing? That was a big complaint from people was Doom 3 came out. The other two complaints seem trivial and this coming from a guy that has both versions

Great, thanks a lot. And who knows, maybe the original requirements are just oversized a lot and I will not need to patch the wad. The price is very tempting to let it go.
Not a lot of faith, though, because the Blood Port runs like crap in my rig, not tried the Powerslave one.

Because it simplified the game and it lost some of its charm. Light and shadow play was a huge factor in the original, which the BFG neutered by this along with point 1. Before, you had to pick between going in with good visibility, or gun at the ready, risking getting ambushed from the dark. It all added to the atmosphere of the game being primarily a horror shooter.

And I don't really consider changing the game genre as something trivial.

"watered down version for casuals, originally a console release"

The original Doom 3 was released on the first Xbox. I think I still have the box for the Xbox version.

The original Doom 3 was a PC game first and foremost, ported to Xbox later on by 3rd party developer. Facts.

Yeah, I prefer the EX port as the newer official one lacks an option for the old N64 style texture filter that was in the original for some reason.

Maybe I'll do side-by-play through this weekend of both versions. Been some time since I played Doom 3. Because I remember BFG still had the Horror shooter feel to me.

BFG Edition had frame rate issues for me compared to original despite me being well above the requirements too. That and mod incompatibility why I requested a refund some years ago after trying it out.
