Oldgamer85: What a pleasant surprise! I'll have to pick this up.
I was hoping this would eventually come to GOG. I remember the first time I played this game.
I got to stay over at a buddies house, and i brought the family N64 along so we could rent some (hopefully M rated) games from the game store to play (because his parents were pretty lax about this stuff).
Anyhow I ended up convincing my buddy we should get DOOM because both of us hadn't really played it. We had no idea what to expect, but for us kids it was kind of a "whoa" moment.
My buddy didn't really like it, because it was too "Dark and creepy" and well I loved it even though it was hard AF. His *attractive* sister who was a year older than me was there too and she wanted to watch me play it all night and that kind of made it memorable too.
Anyhow It was hard for me because I wasn't used to playing this types of games and my buddies TV brightness setting was really low so the dark areas in the game were literally pitch black (One of the benefits of the old CRTs)
It was still fun though and for a kid who was normally not even allowed Teen rated games it was an edgy experience.
Anyhow for those who havn't played it the game is awesome. It's DOOM reimagined and in a way it's more "arcade like" in presentation than the PC versions.
It's still DOOM but it's different because now it has totally new levels, coloured lighting, different 3D rendered sprites and the music is dark ambient.
The combination of all these things make it a bit more "creepier" than the original Doom in my opinion!
I think my only complaint really is that the original did not have a cooperative mode so you and a friend could play through the game together. This would have made it awesome.
That's a pretty cool story. Thanks for sharing.
I'm actually a pretty big fan of the "first time I played X game" anecdote.
