Lord_Kane: I think he is referring to the unity ports (which are actually pretty good)
Thanks for the information.
Doom 64 is a very nice game. I personally prefer Doom 64 EX over Bethesda's version.

sanscript: Petroglyph is one of few that I can think of that really understood what they had and made a good remaster.

idbeholdME: Exactly. The C&C Remaster currently stands as the golden standard all remasters should aspire to be.
What do you think of the AoE remasters?

EraScarecrow: This game just confuses me. It's like bringing the SNES Doom game forward, the sheer limitations of the cartridges/ROMS does make me wonder how much you can put into them, but wouldn't it be better to just get Ultimate Doom? Doom64 should be better as a bonus item if you have Doom, not a separate game.

Linko64: They're entirely different games, Doom 64 has much more vertical map design, deeper looping design. It's not just a port or a small-sized WAD
Well I'd hope it isn't a small WAD file, considering the limitations of the machine vs this. But what really makes it different? With level editors for DooM i recall there were WAD packs to download giving you hundreds, nay thousands of levels, and even CD's with WADs on them.

Maybe there's specific features or look or feel or something that is specific to Doom 64, but it doesn't really look like it should be a full fledged game. The description says DOOM64 was released on N64 in 1997 and there's 30+ levels, that's all the description really says. It... doesn't seem worth it all things considered as it is likely the original DooM we know.

Doom 2016 in a nutshell
If Doom 4 comes here you have the option of not playing it.

I don't know what else to tell you other than it's not Doom, not Doom 2 or master levels but a whole new Doom with additions and story that sets up Doom 2016. If you're sweating over like 2 quid then stick to WADs, though you could just play both of them. It's not really a case of and/or when the price is so low and the game is good.

It's not really my job to sell it, just gave you some brief info, plenty of reviews online to use for deeper dives! Hope you decide before the sale ends!

Original sprites, original textures, original soundtrack, original level design, original sounds, original engine with original features including rather interesting (colored) lighting and some new triggers (I think). The 2020 release also has some DSP effects which I don't know if they are in the OG but I imagine they might be (N64 had some decent DSP power to it; and I think they tried to make a faithful rerelease). It has a completely different atmosphere and visual feel to it. There's at least one original weapon too, and at least one new enemy.

I'd call it a reimagined doom that maintains the core gameplay pretty much as-is but changes the tone to be a little less upbeat and more chill/spooky. Soundtrack less metal and more ambience/atmosphere. I think the sounds also have a similar change towards darker/gloomer. I think levels feel more surreal in general, which I always liked in Doom.

Very worthy title in my opinion, and it is much more deserving to be its own game than Doom 2 ever was was (which just looks and feels almost identical to Ultimate Doom, just with an extra gun, a handful of much needed extra enemies, and some new textures).

It's a whole new experience to me, and I'm so glad it's finally here.

Yep, but that's just not the same thing at all.

They are fine, but considering that they implement irreversible balance changes, changes to the campaign scenarios and the inability of using the original graphics in the campaigns, definitely not as good.

The original experience should always be preserved as an option at least (or just keep the original up for sale along with the remaster but won't happen because MONEY!!!). RTS games suffer from this greatly in general. Balancing for multiplayer and screwing up single player/campaigns in the process. The only RTS which I've seen tackle this problem so far has been Stacraft 2 (with separate single/multiplayer balance).

I've no desire to get them as I have the original games on discs, which work without issues.

Ahh i see. Re-imagined from the ground up.

It looked/sounded like a mod-pack reselling and then calling it a full game.
Part of me is sad I have no money during this sale, part of me is also disgraced over not having the less than $2USD right now to grab this while it's on sale.

The rest of my parts know that I'll have money after the sale ends and will just spend the $4.99USD SRP, same as I did when the game hit the Volvo store.

Then the rest of the rest of whatever is left over of me will notice something hit a rock bottom low, make me want to scream in agony, then wait five years for it to hit that same price again.
Because, that's how it. always. is.

Anyway, happy Mood 64'in, all.
Instabuy for me. :)
DOOM 64 is the true DOOM III. Glad to have a DRM-free copy, for when I next take a tour of hell.
Just fired up the GoG version. I can confirm there is native PS4 controller support. There are also in-game achievements. I'm not sure why the store page doesn't mention this. Speaking of the store page...it says "is now available for the first time on PC". Which is not true, as it was released on Steam before it came here. NBD but I thought it was kind of weird.

Well, they just copy-pasted the Steam page.

At least it doesn't refer to Steam on its gamepage several times like others have in the past. ;)
