Doom 3: BFG Edition is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 75% launch discount.
Back to reclaim its FPS throne, Doom 3 adds a strong dose of claustrophobic horror into the series' timeless cocktail of explosive action, horrific enemies, and ultra-violent massacre.

The BFG Edition is the game's remastered version, containing DOOM, DOOM II, DOOM 3, and DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil, as well as The Lost Mission.

Feeling nostalgic or just awfully trigger-happy? Check out our Bethesda shooters sale.
The 75% discount will last until August 28, 1 PM UTC.

guppy44: While I'm very happy to get a version of Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil here, I'd like to request the original releases of Doom 3 and the expansion alongside the BFG. The "other store" offers all options of the game and I'd love to see GOG get the same treatment. The BFG edition is nice but makes enough changes that I think both have a solid customer base here.

Just a couple of many examples, but Resurrection of Evil has been modified and chunks of the game were removed or changed to ensure a German release (so why it's currently unavailable there on GOG at this time is beyond me). There is also a major change to the mechanics of the flashlight, which arguably removes the fear factor. In the original Doom 3 one had to manually enable the flashlight which would be held by Doomguy and prevent a major weapon from being simultaneously held/used. This made players choose wisely between remaining armed and in the dark and illuminating the enemies without much defense. In the BFG edition the flashlight is attached to Doomguy's gear meaning it can be used without occupying the hands and major weaponry can still be used. It's a major change.

Sorry for the long read. I love these games and feel that there's a desire for the originals as well as the BFG edition at GOG. :)
thanks, i was wondering what all the hoopla was about

Lifthrasil: Which means GOG screwed up and are overeager to comply with censorship, again, that doesn't even exist in this case.
I think bethesda fucked this one up, GOG would sell it, like other indexed games, which are still available here unlocked... ^^

No problem to get both titles with a bit of technical knowledge, but it is annoying. And I want the old "Doom 3" and the old "Resurrection of Evil". too. Not just the "remake". :(
Uhh... when did ANY version of Doom 3 have ANY claim to the FPS throne? Half-Life 2 beat it back then, and Doom 2016 beat it now.
They made a mistake releasing Q4 at the same time. If this was it, I would get it, but instead I can grab a Q4 that way outplays this BFG crap and be happy with that until, and if, they decide to give us the original D3.
Nice! Doom 3 finally made it! But is it true that one can't save manually with the BFG edition?
high rated
Right, just to clarify the legal situation:

The original version of Doom 3 is rated 18, uncensored, not indexed.

The original expansion "Resurrection of Evil" is unrated and indexed.

However, the BFG version, despite containing the Resurrection of Evil in more or less unchanged form, is rated 18, uncensored and not indexed in Germany. The debate as to whether the game has been "censored" or not for the German market is moot. There is one singular international version of the game - the one distributed in the US and UK is the same one that was sold in Germany. Ergo, it should be available here.

Incidentally, a company that is resident in Poland (as an EU member state) and/or is marketing directly to consumers within the EU and imposes arbitrary restrictions on the purchase of services or goods is likely to be in violation of Article 101 of the Treaty of the Functioning of the European Union. That is certainly the case here.

Likewise, if the German youth protection authorities are trying to compel storefront operators to prevent German buyers from purchasing these games, they too are in violation of Article 101.

I don't think so. Bethesda is selling the game in Germany via other stores. So they have no reason to enforce a region lock solely for GOG. I rather think it's GOG's over-eagerness to comply with German censorship again. Or just a simple 'didn't check and just assumed it was indexed' error.

ShadowOwl: Well, the GOG.com user agreement covers this topic:

9. WHAT YOU CAN'T DO WITH GOG SERVICES
[...]
(i) We ask you to follow any applicable geographic or regional, language or location-based restrictions, requirements or rules regarding GOG.

ShadowOwl: Sure, anyone can go use Tor, VPN or whatever service to change their IP to a more fitting location but I don't think everybody will feel comfortable breaking the rules. Though I have
never heard of a account being suspended for doing so.

Alternative: Ask somebody to gift you the game.

It's the same for the buyer if he let it gift it to him or use VPN to puchase it. In Germany it is not forbidden to buy games from foreign countries that are on the german game index and own them. You are only not allowed to sell or gift them. It's an ensurance for the seller when german IPs are blocked, not for the buyer. GOG did everything to prevent selling those games to Germans and Germans can't get sued for buying those games. So everyone is happy.

The other question is how they can prove wether I used a VPN or I was in an other country. I can also drive over the boarder to France, go into an internet cafe and buy the game there.

Oh, did not know that. Yeah, seems GOG dropped the ball here. Should only be a question of hours, before it is unblocked again. Problem is: do they unblock it, before the sale ends?

As for "Quake 4": there IS a censored german edition, but it is not included here. With "Return to Castle Wolfenstein" we got the censored german version, too.

reex: hello does the gog version have mp like the steam version?
Looking at the game card on gog it only has singleplayer.

if we always spend time & effort to work around Bethesda's (or GOG's ??) fuck-ups then they will see no reason to ever fix this mess. they get their money anyway, right?
the only proper response is a) complain and b) don't buy.

How so?

Exactly. I'm pretty sure Steam, GOG and such do not give a shit. But the fear to lose access to an account with hundreds of games is still there.
So the GOG version is regionally locked for germans while we can buy it on Steam without problems:

Pathetic, just pathetic! :/
I appreciate the new Bethesda releases, but...
This is a bad version (the only good thing it has done was integrating the Duct Tape mod) of the worst big Doom game.
At least it gives hope that we may see Doom 2016 in some 5 years here.
