<span class="bold">Doom 3: BFG Edition</span> is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 75% launch discount.
Back to reclaim its FPS throne, Doom 3 adds a strong dose of claustrophobic horror into the series' timeless cocktail of explosive action, horrific enemies, and ultra-violent massacre.

The BFG Edition is the game's remastered version, containing DOOM, DOOM II, DOOM 3, and DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil, as well as The Lost Mission.

Feeling nostalgic or just awfully trigger-happy? Check out our <span class="bold">Bethesda shooters</span> sale.
The 75% discount will last until August 28, 1 PM UTC.

tinyE: who made the BFG?

i keep hearing, "not what the devs intended". Was it a totally different group? Did the original devs ever voice their ire over what was done?

Serious questions and with Marko's post I think I need to go back and rethink what rethought. :P
There was significant overlap between the original Doom 3 dev team and the BFG Edition dev team. Mobygames has the credits for both:

Digital_CHE: And what about Return To Castle Wolfenstein? The source code is on github, but where is a safe Linux executable?
Debian has a package for iortcw. That seems to be a good choice. Disclaimer: I haven't tested it. I've previously used a different fork, but I think that one is dead.

Edit: Funny how links that used to work are completely broken.

Does anyone know how to increase the resolution for the original?

Yes, that is a new GOG came called "who is better in breaking the forum?". At the moment I am happy about every post that comes out the way I typed it ;)

It seems that someone switched from non greedy regex replacement to greedy matching which breaks lines with several links.
My gaming budget is currently empty ( i will get paid on the 5th ) , so i add Doom 3 BFG and Quake 4 to my wishlist .

I did the first one and when I go back to the config file it has reverted back.

Don't tell me you installed it on Program Files again?

That happened to me whenever my custom resolution was wrong (therefore not supported by my monitor. In my case I accidentally switched height and width).

i got it fixed, but now my FPS is shit. I need to turn off some of this high end crap, like specular. Do I really need to be able to see heat waves?

For me it was the anti aliasing that caused the stutter. Turned it down to 4x and had no problems performance wise.

groovy marko thanks

I still had to turn down my resolution lower than I wanted, but it looks good.

And you know, with all of this tweeking and going back to test, I'm starting to worry about that old guy at the dock. I really think he does "need to get out of here".

HenitoKisou: You are that type of person that will deny any fun and optional content for other people even if you personally will never use it but existence of it alone is triggering and infuriating. Don't get it, don't use it if you don't need it, it's not hurting anyone.
Where exactly did I say not to buy this version? I've clearly pointed out why it is inferior to the classic versions.

As an id Software/Doom fanboy I've pointed out it is worth picking up for the extra exclusive mission packs... and that's all it's worth picking up for.

EDIT: Looking at your screenshots of the menu and ending level statistics screen I'm beginning to wonder if the GOG version is modified from the Steam version. My Steam copy of BFG edition has the standard menu and ending screens... no new screens like those.

While I was certain you were full of shit when talking about extra enemies in Doom 3 BFG... if GOG Doom 2 BFG is modified perhaps GOG Doom 3 BFG is modified too? Whats going on here...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9D0nmrxTGw
Within a few seconds you will see the menu screen... as you will see it's the classic Doom 2 menu.
2:47 in he beats the first level and the statistics screen is again the classic screen.

Yet another EDIT: IF this version is different/improved from the Steam version they should mention it on the store page. I'd be excited myself about an increase in the quantity of enemies.

GOG also fails to mention the inclusion of No Rest For the Living. Frankly it was the best part of BFG Edition IMHO. It IS part of the GOG version of BFG Edition... right?
