Spectre: Are there any mods to replace what was lost and changed from the original in the BFG version? Do original doom 3 mods work with the BFG version on gog?
There is at least an uncensoring patch available which has been posted here.

sanscript: And who needs support for multilang anyway? If you can't read and/or understand English then you better take some responsibility for your own laziness and start learning! :-D
That's kind of offensive imo. If the person isn't moving to an English-speaking country, they might not have the time and energy to prioritize learning a whole new language.
I have to go back even more and continue to look like a major asshole for originally dissing BFG.

I just sat down and played the original for 30 minutes followed by BFG for 30 minutes and the original IS WAY TOO DARK! :P

Even if you like the challenge, am I the only one a little put off that a state of the art military complex on Mars doesn't have any fucking auxiliary lighting!? :P 10 billion dollars on security doors, 40 dollars on light bulbs.

Sorry to the purist, of which I was one not more than 24 hours ago, but I gotta change my stance. I'd prefer the handheld torch and a few other bits of the original like the sound and the save system, but if I put them on a scale, the BFG just edges it out.

I respectfully disagree.

Never had a problem navigating in the original, the darkness was half the point and the remaster lacks so many little atmospheric details, not to mention the ruined audio quality or the removed sections and encounters...

This purist still says the BFG edition misses the point of the original by a country mile.

I only hope the fine people of this forum can see fit to one day forgive me.

The patch looks like it's for the doom games bundled with it. That still leaves the dark lighting* and the changes to the expansion.

* One thing I've noticed in games like that is the coloured dynamic lighting seems to be missing/ toned down

No. They completely changed the way the game data is packaged. As a result, Doom 3 BFG cannot even read a Doom 3 mod, and vice-versa. To use a clumsy analogy, it'd like trying to insert a floppy disk in a CD reader: it just won't even attempt to work.

I am glad to hear you are enjoying it as much as I am!

You can turn off the checkpoint saves btw, personally I would recommend this as the checkpoints kill the fluidity.

The lack of EAX is a shame but support for this was dropped at Vista so the devs can't be blamed for this (blame Microsoft)
Does Doom 3 come with a free flashlight?

That sucks. is there a new SDK kit to make your own mods and maps?
what exactly is Field of View and should I change it from the default 90?

tinyE: what exactly is Field of View and should I change it from the default 90?
Field of view determines how much of the environment you can see on the screen. The best way to describe it is in third-person games, the higher the FOV, the farther back the camera is from the playable character. It's also noticeable in first-person games, though. The higher the FOV, the more enemies you'll be able to see lurking around the corners of the screen, but they'll also look farther away than they would with a lower FOV. There's always a trade-off. If you're playing the game on a large display, I recommend cranking up the FOV as far as it will go, but if you're playing on a smaller display, you might want to leave it at the default.
