Starkrun: I would buy RAGE at any price they drop here on GOG.com!
I wouldn't say that loud, bethesda may put Rage for 49.99 + 24.99 for The Scorchers ; )
The game is fun as hell, except for non existent ending..
Let us hope missing games will be released sooner than later.
I actually save the Scorchers DLC for after the main game as it has an actual ending/boss fight... even if it is unrelated to the main story.

He wasn't talking about money. >;)
Speaking of Doom, can anyone enlighten a clueless guy like me: Were there any significant differences between Doom and Doom II, or is Doom II just like Doom with new levels? I played Doom at a friends' house back in the days but I don't remember which version or if I played both. The screenshots seem to look almost the same.

Doom II was a sequel like Fallout 2, where many assets and graphical features are reused... but the experience is bigger and better with new stuff.

Doom II included larger more complex levels, new dangerous enemies and 1 new weapon, the iconic Super Shotgun.

Some of the new enemies included:
Hell Knights
Chaingunners
Mancubus
Revenant
Arch Vile
Arachnotron
Pain Elementals

EDIT: Oh and another big change was that Doom 1 was episodic. Doom 2's levels were connected from start to finish. Doom 1 had a cool feature though where it actually showed a map of where you were at the end of each level. For example, a map of the phobos moon with various installations that got checked off as you completed them. Doom II only had a scoreboard on top of skulls.

Similar engine. Doom 2 introduced a new weapon, the double barreled shotgun. Also if memory serves the beasties were slightly changed or added to. Nothing major. Although like you, it was years since I played either.

antrad88: I just want to give my support to those requesting the original version of Doom 3 on GOG. The flashlight restriction in the original game was an important gameplay mechanic and part of the original design, without it it's just not the same game.
Never in a million years did I think I would see so much of this silliness. The game was laughed at for the use of the flashlight, now people are crying for it back. I don't get it.

Nothing but a loud mouthed minority. Those of us who liked the mechanic weren't making noise because why complain about a good thing?

Even if you consider the suit light in BFG edition to be a good change there are plenty of other stupid changes that spoil the experience like faster movement speed and RIDICULOUS increase to the quantity of ammo you get from pickups.

Doom 3 was supposed to be a slower paced horror shooter with emphasis on atmosphere.

What does that mean exactly? Aren't there level end screens anymore in Doom 2? Or can you backtrack to earlier levels? Or do you just mean it's one gigantic complex, split into levels of which you have to imagine that they directly connect to each other, while in the first Doom the story takes places in several disconnected locations?

Oh for fuck's sake... Just bought this a few months ago. Kinda pissed now. How about making it eligible for Steam Connect?

In Doom 1 you have 3 episodes (4 in Ultimate Doom, basically an old expansion to the base game) with 8 levels (+1 secret level) per episode. You complete the 8 levels and it tells you congratulations, now go play the next episode! The next episode starts you off with a pistol and you complete the next 8 levels. Basically you can play any of the four eight level episodes in any order you want, even though the story expects you to play them in order. While they dropped the episodes in Doom II they returned to them in Quake 1. Instead of selecting episodes from the menu like in Doom you'd have a hub level where you could play the episodes in whatever order you preferred.

Doom 2 has 30 levels (+2 secret levels) that you complete from start to finish with no 'end' to an episode. It of course still has story screens from time to time but there aren't episode 'breaks' that return you to the main menu to choose the next episode... or skip ahead if so inclined.

Leroux: ...Borderlands and Mad Max
That's exactly why I'm interested in it. A post-apocalyptic shooter from id Software, I'd love to play it.

avatar
Leroux: Hunted is a mediocre corridor shooter / Gears of War clone...
The way I intend to play it is in co-op. Everything is better in co-op.

avatar
Leroux: I'm tempted by Call of Cthulhu, but it seems that it's very prone to game-breaking crashes on modern systems, and some claim that the Steam version is less compatible with unofficial patches than the retail version due to some kind of protection on it. No idea if that's true.
Actually I remember reading that the unofficial patch fixes all the crashing bugs on STEAM, which is why a I had it bookamarked. Whether that's actually the case, I don't know, and I'm clueless as to where to start searching for a source, so don't quote me on it.

avatar
GreasyDogMeat: I also laugh when people talk about the 'standards of GOG' when they let trash like the BFG edition on here.
It actually makes me kind of sad, because quite a few good games were rejected, because GOG considered them too niche. I'm not going to comment on that, as I'm sure they have some numbers to back up their claims, but I would have liked some of those games DRM-Free.

mike_cesara: ... Rage + The Scorchers DLC...
Wasn't the DLC the only co-op part of the game? I doubt it would come to GOG, unless somebody adds Galaxy support. I think I just convinced myself to get it on STEAM.

Yes, I suppose so. I played it in single player mode, and your AI partner is very unreliable when it comes to reviving you. You're basically on your own.

Seems to be a gamble. For some people it works, for other it doesn't, and you have no way of knowing who these people are, what system setup they used, what they actually did to try and fix it etc. The annoying part though is that the game-breaking bugs may only occur later in the game or at specific spots, so you won't know right from the start whether it's safe to play. Then again, it's very cheap at the moment.

Heretic, Hexen, Heretic II, Hexen II, and the Original Doom 3.... That would be awesome.

RAGE would be good if the game wasn't so meh.
+1 for OG Doom 3

It's cool having to predict where enemies' heads would be after switching from the torch, it adds strategy and an extra thing to consider during combat, similar to RE 4 and 5's stop'n'pop shooting making you consider where you'll plant your feet.

Not going to pay a bad port team to take that away from me.
