haydenaurion: Yeah, we need original Doom 3 as an option. Those changes in the link just bother me.

darthspudius: Butchered is a bit overkill is it not? There were hardly any changes, most of which were needed. Fans being drama queens.

haydenaurion: Uh, these don't sound like minor changes, though i've not played the BFG Edition so I can't compare:

http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_3:_Resurrection_of_Evil#Doom_3_BFG_Edition

"Doom 3 BFG Edition was released with RoE already built in, so it can be played by accessing the campaign screen.

Several levels have been modified and some features have been removed, most notably the toxic maze & enviro-suit sequence in Erebus Research, the dimensional shift in Delta Labs, as well as a room with numerous monsters in Hell."

http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_3_BFG_Edition#Changes

"A lot of enemy encounters in original Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil got cut, for example, encounter with hellish version of boney zombies in Hell level of original Doom 3."

Those two are the ones that bother me the most. Though if they aren't that bad of changes or are even good changes, then I don't mind.
This is going to sound super petty, but the duct tape mod ruined this, plain and simple, new levels i like, balancing encounters is good, removing a artistic design choice/mechanic with a disease encrusted crowbar is just wrong. i say this as a game designer.

I haven't checked maybe they added a way to disable it in patches, in which case hooray it is now worthy

ReynardFox: The malformed BFG edition? No Legacy non-shit version in bonuses? :/

I don't think they will offer it as a free bonus because they still sell it on Steam. But it would be cool if we could buy it, considering the low price on the other site.

Hey foxdude! Are those the ones sold on Steam or they too have been modified?
high rated
I'll wait for the non-BFG edition.

Or, maybe, get this... some people actually really liked the original mechanics which while 'gamey', were deliberately designed and created a playstyle and atmosphere that's been completely stripped away in this yes, butchered, edition. It's been turned into something that's played like every other generic action shooter.

Not actually sure about what's being sold on Steam as I've never bought anything on there to know I'm afraid. The only legacy version that I know is the original 3CD retail release.

I'd be fine with that, I'll pay for vanilla Doom 3 again without hesitation if I have to.

Woo! More Bethesda games!

I hope Skyrim and Fallout 4 will be getting a release here sometime in the future? ;)

If the rebalanced encounters don't drastically reduce the challenge from the original then that's fine, otherwise i'm not a fan of that change.

As for the flashlight change, i'm actually the opposite on this one lol. I hated having to constantly switch between the flashlight and weapons in the original, it made the game a chore to play at times. I only wish the original had a flashlight mod more like the BFG version as its flashlight works with all weapons instead of just few like the flashlight mods for the original.
I gave in and bought everything. Now I have every iD and Bethesda game here on GOG. I just need the time to play all this. And I know it's been said all over the threads but I really would rejoice in seeing the Heretic and Hexen games here as well.

Steam still sells both the original and BFG versions separate.

I agree completely. Also yeah... at least we got Quake 4. I'll be buying that one.

Oh thanks!
And why is that, this "eeew" about this release? I'm humbly asking since I played the base game on launch day and it's an amazing fps in every sense out there. This BFG release looks amazing though; reminds me of a console release or something, suitable for controllers which is cool but I'm seeing here it's a bit butchered or modified or whatever and that can't be good...
Wow, first Fallout 3 and New Vegas, now this. Bethesda really makes this year on gog a joy in terms of releases. The only caveat is the lack of vanilla Doom 3, but still it's better than nothing.

Hopefully Rage (which came out a year after New Vegas) and Dishonored (2 years after New Vegas) will be released here soon as well... maybe just in time for the Christmas Sale? :)

YES TO THIS! Love Heretic and Hexen.

Good to see more Bethesda releases, not so great to see that this version doesn't have multiplayer and that we don't have the original Doom 3 available. It doesn't bode well for us getting the original version of Skyrim someday instead of just the mod-breaking re-release.
Nope, is not going to happen...

but i think that RavenSoft / id Software has joined gog today, and Hexen and Heretic series are from Raven Software
