A wish come true!

Aladdin, a magical tale about a street urchin, a magic lamp, and a whole lot of apples, is available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 10% launch discount. Grab this together with the other two Disney classics for a 33% discount.

Who doesn't love Aladdin? What with his awesome acrobatic skills, his apple-throwing shenanigans, and his devotion to princess Jasmine. But he wouldn't be half as cool without his three irresistible sidekicks! Abu, the adorable, fez-wearing monkey with the unlimited arsenal of mannerisms and his own bonus levels. The equally expressive magic carpet that can fly Aladdin anywhere he pleases and is the star of the game's later levels. And of course the blue, wish-granting Genie of inexhaustible comedic potential and flexibility. The only thing that could make this story better is an evil wizard with delusions of grandeur and an obnoxious parrot at his side. What do you mean they are also here and you get to fight them, like in the movie? Surely you are making it all up - these sorts of things could only happen during hot arabian nights...

Throw apples at anyone who stands between you and a kiss from your princess, as Aladdin, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 10/33% discounts will last until August 8, 12:59 PM UTC.

Cool to see these games here. Brings back memories of my childhood :-)
Got to love the reviews... "Why not releasing the SNES version?" Was the SNES version even ported to PC? Wikipedia says no, but even if yes, these are not two versions of the same game, but two different games, so it's like writing a review of game A with "why haven't GOG released game B".

Anyway, I have a question too. Mobygames shows a "Windows" version, something I never came across before. Does anyone know what are the differences between Windows and DOS version?

(Windows screenshots here. It looks like a 16-bit executable so almost impossible to run on modern Windows, short of an XP virtual machine or Windows 3.x/95 running on DOSBOX

Aladdin is the best of the bunch :D
Nice idea, please put more console classics.

OMG, that must've been infuriating!
Fortunately we have save states to prevent this, nowadays.
Instabrought. Had this on Amiga and loved it, even if I could never get passed the Escape from the Cave of Wonders Level.
I checked the game page today again looking for some reviews only to see the reviews have turned into a battleground about whether the SNES or Genesis version was better. At the moment the top review is:

"Unfortunatly this version is not the Genesis / Megadrive version either. This is the PC downgrade adaptation of it with less colors and a stupid black corner where you can see score, time, and others which take a big part of the screen :("

Not sure what the reviewer wants. GOG sells PC games. Was he expecting a Genesis cartridge?

Sigh... Why can't people understand that
a) The two are separate games, GOG didn't decide to sell one and not the other because they decided that it's "better" but because they've got the rights to sell one and not the other.
b) GOG only sells PC games. And in this case they're selling the only PC port available.
c) Regardless of the above, reviews are not the place to argue about it. So either write a review about the game that GOG is selling or stay out.

I guess I'll look for some gameplay videos. The way this is going doesn't look like I'll find anything useful in the reviews.

Can anyone recommend this game? I love platformers from that era and believe played that game a bit but don't remember much about it. Is the game worth getting?

Maybe this quite recent review/first impression video helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWdU7naqStE
I can't comment about the game, since I've not played the version gOg is selling here.

He is also lying about the PC version having less colors. That is simply untrue, I don't know what that reviewer had been drinking. You can see for yourself from e.g. Mobygames:

It is a good solid platformer game, and the PC version has better music than either the Sega Genesis or SNES versions. I find it hilarious how some reviewers keep claiming the Sega music is better; the Sega version music is AWFUL rinky-dinky synthesized sound, similar to what you'd get with Adlib on PC. The PC version has fully digitized sound.

I've only had previous experience with Capcom's SNES version, so this is quite new to me.

While the somewhat restricted view of the DOS version due to the scoreboard isn't the greatest, it hasn't really bothered me much at all. Some of the platforming in the later levels can be a bit tricky. I actually expected this to have something like a password system, but the game was designed to be played in one go. So I decided to resort to using cheat codes to get me back to the level I reached last time I played. The music is pretty good for what it is.

It may not be the most top notch platformer out there, but I still find it quite enjoyable. Just be prepared to tough it out once you get to the Cave of Wonders.

Thanks all.

It's weird: I actually loved platformers without saves (Prehistorik, Dangerous Dave, Prince of Persia...) and even if they did have saves or a password system (Gods), I'd play it all from the beginning in one go for the points (which often translated to extra lives). Plus playing from the beginning everytime was part of the fun. It's strange that nowdays I got so used to saves though, that I find lack of saves very restricting.

I won't be getting it at the moment, but I'll keep my eyes on Aladdin. Maybe when it goes on a bigger sale or my backlog plate is emptier.

Yes, absolutely. It's a solid action-platformer. No mazes, no puzzles, no difficult-to-time jumps, unfortunately no climbing ledges, an occasional extra life to feel good about getting (it's been 20 years and I still remember the sound effect). Keep in mind that it's short and can be finished in a sitting, and it doesn't have mechanical replay incentives like comprehensible highscores or speedrunning (beyond being fun to play). I bought the whole set for this game.
Is there no way to save?
